My name is Katie Kelly, and I'm a new hire this year to the Animal Services Division at the Department of Agriculture. In the office, I work as an administrative assistant processing applications and payments, filing certificates, and working as a point of communication for our ranchers, vets, and inspectors. I graduated from the University of Oregon last spring a nd am new to the Phoenix area. Before my recent move, I worked as a high school wrestling coach and loved to stay active with outdoor activities in the Pacific Northwest. Much of my livestock experience is with horses from a family ranch in Oregon that I hope to visit again soon.

I am incredibly excited to be a part of this welcoming team and can't wait to explore my new home in Phoenix, my new home.

Put on your boots and hold on tight cause this Cowbelle girl is taking flight Whether you're for, or whether you're against Follow your heart, don't sit on the fence Be kind, be true and courteous too For you never know who's watching you Do it proud, do it loud or maybe just do it afraid For when God's grace is upon you, you've got it made Take a stand and fight for what's right You'll be the one with a good sleep tonight Show your strength and weakness too Be open to learn from those around you Know when to lead and when to follow Show growth and maturity, don't be so shallow Be yourself, sing and dance Share your laughter, every chance Respect one another, love them through
We all have a choice, which will you choose...

Through these continually challenging months that our nation and state are facing due to COVID‑19 and the brutal wildfire season, the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) continues to work hard on building and maintaining positive working relationships with the ranching community. While public health and safety measures are in place and the safety of our families and loved ones remain the top prio rity, the show must go on for AGFD and our ranching partners.
AGFD’s Landowner Relations Program (LRP) takes pride in the responsibility of fostering and maintaining positive relationships with private landowners and grazing allotment lessees throughout the state. This is accomplished through the cooperative planning of mutually beneficial “Cooperative Habitat Stewardship Agreements” and “Recreation al Access Agreements.”
While habitat projects are still being completed with ranches around the state when circumstances allow, adaptations are made by working together to navigate current challenges. Rather than stalling progress due to the current restrictions and health concerns, we are taking this time to put our heads together and strategically plan projects for the future. Some of the most cru cial planning steps can be taken from the safety of the home or home office. Such steps include working with your Regional LRP Specialists for information and assistance with technical advice, cost-share funding availability, proposal planning, compliance needs, and obtaining approvals for future projects on your ranches.
Examples of projects that LRP plans and provides cost-share funding for inclu de, but are not limited to solar well conversions, water distribution pipelines, water catchments, wildlife-friendly livestock drinkers, dirt tank repairs and bentonite treatments, invasive brush treatments, forest treatments, wildlife-friendly fencing, spring developments, riparian exclosures with off-site water for livestock, and adaptable recreational access agreements for privately-owned parcels.
If you have any questions or interest in receiving more information, please contact one of the Regional LRP Specialists from the included map or contact the AGFD LRP Program Manager, Don Larsen at dlarsen@azgfd.gov. You can also visit the website at https://www.azgfd.com/wildlife/landowners/.
