The award is a joint presentation of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Office of the Secretary, United States Dept. of Transportation for the Design for Transportation + Design Arts Program.

Selected Project Depot Plaza, Lafayette, Indiana.

The Depot Plaza,a component of the Railroad Relocation Project, is one of only 29 projects in the United States selected by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Trust for Historic Preservation as an outstanding example of the use of Transportation Enhancement Activities funding of the Federal Intermodal SurfaceTransportation Efficiency Act.

Excellence In Planning Award Railroad Relocation Project, Lafayette, Indiana.

The American Planning Association presented this award for the overall design, planning and execution of this large infrastructure project.

Downtown Revitalization Award Redevelopment Commission, Lafayette, Indiana.

Recognized by the Indiana Department of Commerce for planning and implementing a set of interrelated preservation and development projects. Funding was secured from a variety of sources and leveraged by public/private partnerships.

Historic Preservation Award Redevelopment Commission, Lafayette, Indiana.

Award presented by the State of Indiana, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, for a series of rehabilitation projects of public buildings and sites and National Park Service Certified Rehabilitation projects of private buildings.

Outstanding Urban Forestry Program Redevelopment Commission, Lafayette, Indiana.

This first award of its type in Indiana was a joint presentation by the State of Indiana, Department of Natural Resources, and the Indiana Forest Owners Association for the establishment, research, and management of a municipal urban forestry program, projects, and publications. Of special interest was the investigation of urban heat island dynamics of the metropolitan area.

Indiana Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology Director, Indianapolis The director’s responsibilities involve management of Indiana’s cultural resources, over 1,800 sites in an area of 36,416 mi2. In partnership with the National Park Service, DHPA conducts programs to identify, preserve, and develop Indiana’s cultural resources.

Registration and survey programs identify historic sites, maintain a database of historic and archaeological sites, and processes nominations to the National Register of Historic Places. Archaeology programs research and manage historic and pre-historic archaeological resources. Environmental reviews are conducted to determine potential impacts on cultural resources resulting from Federally funded projects. A Historic Preservation Fund provides matching grants for education, research, and preservation. And, architectural programs assist and review applications for renovation tax credit for historic properties.
