Chicago has an extensive history of public transportation as an essential need On October 1, 1947, the Chicago Transit Authority took over all “L” and streetcar operations becoming the CTA. Both systems needed reconstruction and modernization. Transportation methods extended to underground and overhead trains, as well as bus routes. The city offers reduced fares to make public transportation more accessible, with benefits for children, students, seniors, and people with disabilities The city is walkable and driving is possible with parking garages, but can be expensive There are also rentable services such as Lime scooters or driving services like Uber and Lyft.
