Currently, I’m at Society of Neuroscience 2023 in Washington D.C as I was presenting my summer research project for the Diversity programs funded by the NINDS-ENDURE. Its been an amazing and inspiring experience and I hope that as the months go on, that I get to share the breadth of knowledge and opportunities that are available as scientists, PHOTO BY MARTIN R. artists, engineers, and enthusiasts.

One of the most important things I’ve learned as scientist thus far is the importance of a community, and part of my praxis is to incorporate imaginations and theories of social justice and scientific integrity into my work. I would love to share this more with you all in hopes that you find solace and empowerment in the ways that psychedelic medicine and research cover all the assemblages that make us human. No matter what level you are looking at, whether you are looking at the molecular and cellular level or taking a more holistic clinical perspective, what you bring to the table matters. You matter, and that is why I’m asking all of those who are still interested to maintain their belief, faith, and support in our cause. I am working rigorously to provide you with the information you need in the most efficient way possible, although life and it’s unbridled demands and responsibilities get in the way sometimes, I am still an active and integral part of the process and I stand by upholding what it means to make the work we do and the research and resources that exist out there accessible. That is why as the club continues to transform, shift, and rebuild that with all things in life -- you also remain steadfast in your support and interest.

YOU ARE RIGHT WHERE YOU BELONG: ON BEING A SCIENTIST AND EDUCATOR IN TRAINING BY AYSHA SMITH What does it mean to be a scientist? What does it mean to create experiences and curriculum that is both tantalizing and encompassing of all of the complexities and intersections of humanity and nature? What does it mean to know when you belong in the field you’ve chosen? In this presentation I not only explore my journey and the experience I’ve had in establishing myself as budding scientist, but also as a person interested in intersecting science with social and ethical considerations, equity, and accessibility. If you’re looking for another story to help guide you along on your journey to figuring out who you and what you do, this presentation is for you. Whether you’re looking for a place to start or space to be validated -- know that wherever you are and wherever you go on this journey, you are right where you belong.

Rest and Relaxation A NIGHT FOR MENTALLY PREPARING FOR FINALS The end is nigh. As time dwindles and the demand for our undivided attention becomes greater and greater -- it is imperative that we follow in the guidance of our therapeutics and allot ourselves time to rest and restore. We would like to invite you to share input with us on how you’d like to relax together before you are baptized by fire in the final weeks of the semester.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR BRIDGING THE SCIENCE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE OF PSYCHEDELICS

WHAT Radical and Absurd Imaginations is a project soon to be workshop series focused on introducing ethical concerns isn psychedelic research and medicine. Drawing up questions in neuroethics, psychoethics, and social justice frameworks, Radical and Absurd Imaginations seeks to arm those interested in psychedelics and psychedelic medicine with a foundational understanding of the past and current nature of the psychedelic renaissance, and the etiquette and gaps for equitable engagement. Further, the series seeks to invoke dialogues geared towards utilizing interdisciplinary approaches to imagine different futures and paths for psychedelic medicine and research.

WHO As of right now, the President (Aysha M. Smith) is the primary leader, focusing on gathering the resources and experts to help in providing insight and collaboration.

She is also involved in the curriculum development process and project management experience.

Anyone that is interested in contributing insight, resources, or wants to be involved in the development process should contact her with any questions and concerns.

SUBMISSIONS Submissions are open all month but the deadline to be featured in a newsletter or in the gallery is 28th of the month. The more submissions we get, the more opportunities arise for collaborations to share and disperse your work.
