GROUP - 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING! It’s been 30 years since Kilmarnock based, I.T Support and Maintenance Company Microtech Support Ltd, opened its doors. With determined strategies, a quality team and dynamic leader, Microtech Support has grown from a traditional Ayrshire company to U.K recognised Microtech Group. Starting as a conventional I.T sales company, Chris McMail Group Managing Director, began his career selling I.T hardware and software. However, with ambition and a strong work ethic, Chris had no plans to remain the small start-up that began in 1986. Armed with experienced knowledge of the I.T industry and goals of reaching the I.T in Healthcare industry, Chris focussed initially, on organic growth to drive Microtech Support Ltd into a position where they could penetrate this sector successfully. As an I.T Sales, Support and Maintenance Company, Chris has always strongly focussed on providing clients with an end-to-end solution. In 2004, Microtech accomplished one of their most notable achievements to date. They were awarded the contract to provide all of Scotland’s GP Practices with a state of the art document scanning and workflow solution. Today, Microtech’s solution and processes are now a core component within GP Practices and the software forms an integral part of NHS Scotland’s strategic I.T healthcare policy. The team are responsible for supporting every GP Practice in Scotland and Northern Ireland with an excess of 20,000 users and management of over 200 calls per day at their Kilmarnock service desk. In 2010, Microtech partnered with Telehealth solutions who use technology to manage
patients with long term conditions. Evidence shows that technology can support early hospital discharge, reduced GP and hospital attendances. In 2015, Microtech acquired their Telehealth partner and this is now an important subsidiary of the Microtech Group. At the same time Microtech increased its strength in the digital arena by acquiring the staff and resources of another agency, increasing the headcount from 2 to 7 in this department. From here, Microtech Digital was born. Ayrshire Hospice Business Ambassador Chris, was the driving force in 2015 Ayrshire Business Awards winning both categories and picking up the awards for “Entrepreneur of the Year” and “Innovation in Business”.
To build the strength of the management team, Microtech has now welcomed new NonExecutive Chairman Ian Welsh OBE, Medical Director Dr. Julian Neal, Technical Director Paul Mathewson and Pete Kerly to take care of the Telehealth business. When asked about his thoughts on his 30 years in business and development of Microtech, Chris commented: “It’s hard to believe that Microtech is 30 years old! Through hard work, perseverance and dedication, I am very proud of the team and what we have achieved. But it doesn’t stop there. Our ambitions and goals are continually reassessed and developed and we are still growing. There are certainly more exciting plans in store for the Microtech Group.”
