WHAT IS NEW FIRE? NEW FIRE Festival is a pioneering human gathering experience set in the culturally diverse islands of Trinidad and Tobago. NEW FIRE Festival offers festival guests an opportunity to immerse themselves in a new world, celebrating our most positive human qualities in a spirit of love and oneness. Two days of music, art, dance, food, craft, yoga, play and camping, inspire and uplift guests along with a variety of talks and workshops. This is all set in a beautiful outdoor environment. The festival is grounded in principles of ecological mindfulness and sustainability, demonstrating how we can develop our communities while being environmentally responsible. NEW FIRE FESTIVAL’S SUSTAINABILITY PRINCIPLES Come enjoy an eco-friendly weekend experience. We can only meet our goal of zero waste with your cooperation! The average Trinbagonian produces more than 2.5KG of solid waste per day! Every year the average Trinbagonian produces more Carbon Dioxide than citizens from every country on earth except Qatar. Furthermore, we use more than 80% of the water we can produce annually, meaning that with a changing climate and growing population, the risk of water scarcity is extremely high! To survive, we must change and seek out new ways of running our societies and economies. While at NEW FIRE Festival, we challenge you to reduce, reuse and sustain all for our collective future, in a clean, nurturing and exciting environment.

As a NEW FIRE Festival 2017 guest, we ask that you:-

REDUCE

Reduce our impact on the environment by reducing the use of unnecessary packaging, foreign inputs, water, energy and transportation. Ultimately we want to reduce the production of Carbon Dioxide and the rate at which we use our resources keeping the fire that defines our Trinbagonian nature.

REUSE

Collect any of the little waste produced at the festival for reuse and where possible seek out recovered and recycled material for creative productive use. Our dumps are full enough!

SUSTAIN

Sustain and grow our local economies and ecosystems by supporting our artisans, local business, farmers and sustainable industries. We must foster our environment now so they can support us later.

THIS YEAR, YOU GET TO BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS! ICE AND SOFT BEVERAGES WILL BE ON SALE AT THE BAR. BRING YOUR PREFERRED DRINKS IN BASKETS AND COOLERS. Help us meet our zero waste goals by leaving styrofoam and singleuse plastic containers at home. FREE filtered water will be provided by Hydra-STATION so bring your reusable beverage containers!

HEALTH & SAFETY The safety and security of our festival guests and team is a priority for us and we should all do our bit to keep the peace and ensure we all enjoy NEW FIRE Festival 2017. • Don’t leave anything valuable in your tent. Lock your tent when you leave it. The Scouts Association Pop-up shop will have locks for purchase. • If you can’t take your valuables with you when you leave your tent, leave them at home. • Keep your money, tickets, credit cards, and mobile phones in a secure place or with you all the time. • Do not bring large sums of cash. Only bring what you need and keep it on you at all times. • Add your name to all your property so if it is misplaced, it can easily be identified. • If you arrive by car, don’t leave anything on display in your vehicle i.e. navigation systems, or mobile phones. Don’t place items in your glove box or the trunk. Take everything with you or leave it at home. • Don’t make yourself an easy target. Don’t over-indulge and always be aware of your surroundings. • Should you for any reason become unwell or have an allergic reaction, please visit the First Aid tent where one of the medical attendants will attend to you.

PROHIBITED ITEMS WHAT TO BRING

NEW FIRE Festival strives to make your festival experience fun and comfortable! Though we have the fun covered, you can help by bringing along items to make your two-day adventure as pleasurable as possible. In addition to reusable bottles, containers and camping gear, feel free to bring your blankets, picnic baskets, beach towels, yoga mats, paint and colouring kits, umbrellas and sunblock.

WHAT NOT TO BRING

At NEW FIRE Festival your safety and maximising sustainability are two of our primary concerns. We’ve created a list of items that will be removed from bags, coolers and other containers at the gate by our security team and retained until the end of the festival.

x NO single-use plastic water bottles x NO Styrofoam containers or plates x NO single-use cutlery (plastic forks, spoons, single-use plates etc.) x NO fireworks, lanterns or explosives x NO fire starter’s or campfire gear, open flame items or gasoline x NO weapons of any kind The best way to guarantee your item stays safe is to leave it at home. Let’s enjoy a safe and green NEW FIRE Festival 2017!
