Ayman Asfari, the founder of Petrofac Ltd, a leading service provider to the oil and gas production in the USA, used to be a billionaire on the Forbes annual billionaire list but in 2018, Ayman Asfari dropped off this list. Ayman Asfari has been alleged of taking part in a scheme to pay multi-million-dollar bribes to secure contracts. He was further alleged of corruption, bribery and money laundering and arrested but lather released without any charge. Who is Ayman Asfari? Ayman Asfari was born in Syria but was raised outside his country. He is a son of a diplomat. He studied at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, in the US. He has done MSC in civil and urban engineering from the Pennsylvania. He is also an MBA from Wharton School. Ayman Asfari’s Career Graph Ayman Asfari started his career from working as a consulting engineer for oil companies in Oman where he used to carry out soil testing. Ha has also been the managing director of a civil and mechanical construction company before joining Petrofac Ltd. Ayman Asfari joined Petrofac in 1991. In 2001, he bought the company and made it public in 2005. Fall from Grace In 2017, As per Serious Fraud Office’s Investigation, Ayman Asfari was accused for a scam and was questioned about Petrofac’s activities related to Unaoil. Unaoil is susceptible to money laundering, corruption and bribery. While Asfari denied the charges made on him, still he was suspended by the Petrofac board; later he resumed his duties as company’s chief executive in May 2018. This is not all the hassles and hurdles that Ayman Asfari faced in 2017. He was also fined a whopping EUR 300,000 for insider trading by the Italian markets regulator, Consob.
