Remember, remember It is really easy for us to suffer (Short Memory Syndrome). I don’t forgetting where we left the keys, what dinner yesterday or what the preacher spoke

from SMS just mean we ate for about last Sunday!

We live in a world where everything is moving very fast, where things go out-of-date and out of style very quickly (iPhone 12 anyone?), and where lots of people are looking for whatever is flavour of the month this month.

And we can just as easily fall into this trap as God’s people.

Psalm 105 encourages us to: “Thank G56! Pray to him by name! Tell everyone you meet what he has done! Keep your eyes open for him, watch for his works; be alert for signs of his presence. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the verdicts he’s rendered….” (The Message) God’s kingdom is advancing and we want to be moving on in all that God has prepared for us, but at the same time we also need to continually remember to remember; remember who God is, what He has done, and what He has spoken to us.

This is how we are strengthened in God—by delighting in Him, by cultivating thankful hearts of praise towards Him, and by holding fast to His promises.

Our God loves to transform lives through His son, Jesus, and we believe He has said that we are entering a new season of anointing, authority and visitation which will be marked by waves of Holy Spirit activity bringing blessing, repentance, healing and salvation.

...remember the wonders He has done...

This is not just a ‘nice thought’ that formed a short summer preaching series that we have now moved on from! This is a promise to feed on, pray into and give our lives for.

Nothing could be more exciting than following Jesus—let’s not forget it!

Why Growth Groups?

Home groups, small groups, life groups, cell groups, community groups, growth groups—whatever they are called, churches of all denominations have a mid-week meeting of some sort. That is certainly my experience having been a member of Anglican & Baptist churches before coming to Aylsham Community Church. If so many churches have them they must be important—but why?

1. Love your neighbour (Luke 10:27) Growth groups should be a place where we can freely "love our neighbour," whether through prayer or meeting a physical need. Within a busy church, especially as it continues to grow, it is important to care for one another, providing encouragement and a place of rest where we can recharge. It is important to ensure we are being cared for ourselves.

2. Eagerly desire the greater gifts (1 Corinthians 12:31) Paul’s encouragement to desire the gifts of the Holy Spirit, comes after a stark reminder that we are all members of the same body, each with our own part to play. As we meet with friends and worship together it should be a safe environment to practice spiritual gifts, build one another up and to be encouraged ourselves.

3. After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples (Matthew 11:1) Jesus had his own Growth Group! His group was made up of 12 ordinary men and they spent time together learning the scriptures and asking questions. They also spent time walking, talking and eating together! In Matthew 10 we even read about their outreach programme! What a wonderful model for our own Growth Groups studying the Bible, asking questions, having socials together and being evangelistic.

There are many more reasons as to why Growth Groups are important but I pray that these three will be enough to encourage you.

My challenge to you is, are you a member of a Growth Group and more importantly do you go?

Sustainable Power Book Review by Pip Mellows In our Growth Group this term we are studying the book Sustainable Power by Simon Holley who leads King's Arms Church in Bedford.

It tells of their experience of seeing God's Kingdom invade the church and also break out beyond it too with many stories of healings of both Christians and non Christians.

Jesus said, "whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow from within them" This book is helping us to recognise and remove the many rocks we so easily have blocking our rivers and how to expect the supernatural. I recommend anyone to read it as we in Aylsham expect to see a similar move of God here.
