ABOUT AYC The Asian Youth Center (AYC) exists to empower low-income, immigrant, and at-risk youth and families of all communities to overcome barriers to success through culturally and linguistically competent education, employment, and social services. AYC, formally known as Asian Youth Project, was founded in 1989 by the San Gabriel Valley Task Force of United Way to meet the social service and health needs of Asian immigrant youth and families in the San Gabriel Valley. AYC’s founding members include May L. To, the first Executive Director, and Dr. Judy Chu, the first Board President. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE MARY WONG Dear Friends, On behalf of our Board of Directors, our gala committee, and the entire staff at Asian Youth Center (AYC), I would like to thank you for joining us as we celebrate 31 years of serving our youth. Asian Youth Center (AYC) continues an incredible journey that began in 1989 when Congresswoman Judy Chu and May To had a passion to foster assistance to new immigrants and out of that passion founded AYC. Throughout these past 31 years, the tireless dedication of our staff, volunteers, board members, donors and community support has given us the opportunity to expand our programs to reach more youth. Because of the combined efforts of everyone at AYC and supporters like you, the programs have evolved from the San Gabriel Valley to other parts of Los Angeles County. I am extremely grateful for the privilege to serve as President of the Board of Directors for AYC. It has been humbling to witness first hand how AYC has helped so many youth and families. Without the support of our community we would not be celebrating the accomplishments of AYC and our future leaders. Let me offer my Congratulations to our Honorees: Gigi Yam, Royal Business Bank, Alhambra Unified School District, San Gabriel Unified School District, and the Honorable Ed Chau. Each of you partners with and supports AYC in your own way, making a significant and positive difference in the communities we serve! I also want to express my appreciation to all of the Sponsors here tonight! Thank you for your generous support. Solidly grounded in our mission and our vision, we will continue to collaborate in meaningful efforts to improve the quality of life for our youth. Our promise to do good begins with the spirit of caring and empathy. As we move forward, we celebrate the accomplishments and progress that has been made possible because of all of you. Finally, I want to express a deep appreciation to Michelle Freridge, Executive Director, who has contributed to the success of AYC by expanding our reach and services. It is truly a privilege to be part of a great organization in helping to steward the future. Sincerely, Mary Wong President
