Providing homes for truck drivers who live under their trucks.
The UAE – and perhaps more so Dubai, the most vibrant Emirate – shows evoking images of the tallest building, the best man-made private islands, and the endless shopping festivals. Behind these extravagant images lies the other side of the city: old districts, street life, and life under trucks. According to the Dubai Statistics Center, around 95% of the employed population are males, of which who work in transportation, construction, and extractive industries. Specifically, truck drivers are the biggest victims with no place to call home other than their trucks. They live under their trucks parked in rest areas due to their low-income. This thesis project aims to aid and shed light on truck drivers who are constantly on the road and can’t afford to live in accommodations; a home away from home.
