Staff Interview

What were you doing immediately before joining us? For the last three years I was Managing Director of a Tier 1 regional provider of property services with a specialist roofing arm.

Previous experience? Before my last role I was COO for a national property services and critical infrastructure provider which was formed following the merger of United Living and Fastflow Group. I had stepped into this role after a number of years as Managing Director of the Refurbishment Division of United Living.

Plans for the merged business in outline? Obviously very early days for me in terms of plans however, the continued

success of the new Group, will be business critical supported by the integration actions currently underway.

Any challenges you would like to share? We are all aware that our sector projects significant opportunity over the coming years as our public sector and housing provider clients continue to invest in their assets to provide quality, energy efficient homes. The industry we operate will see a demand on existing resources and it will be hugely important to ensure we have access to the best people as well as attracting and developing our own to support our future plans.

Job title

Managing Director

Department/Division Projects

Date of joining Axis CLC March 2025

Based Stratford

Immediate priorities – what does your day look like? My first 30 days have been spent getting to know the businesses and its people as well as visiting our colleagues at CLC around the UK. Over the coming weeks I will want to spend more time understating business systems and processes to better understand how we deliver from “cradle to grave” delivering the successful outcomes that Axis and CLC have historically achieved. This period of enterprise for me is of huge importance and allows me to integrate fully into the group.

Goals for the business? Our ultimate goal will be to continue to deliver on our successes to date which will underpin our

ability to seek and secure new project and contract awards, enhancing our business value and reputation to become the “Contractor of Choice” in the sectors we operate in. Planned, managed, profitable growth targeting the right opportunities aligned to our skills and capabilities will be essential in order to achieve our business plans.

What do you need from the business/us to achieve these goals? Great people, a strong focus on the implementation and management of Health and Safety, transparency and honesty amongst all stakeholders whom we work with and exceptional governance supported by efficient processes and procedures. And, along the journey some fun!!

Who’s on your immediate team? Everyone I have met so far is engaged, passionate, energetic and welcoming. The majority of whom are also considerably younger than me which bodes well for the future!

Your first impressions of Axis CLC? I was aware of Axis and CLC before I joined the business and (from the outside) admired their successes. Only one month in I am still trying to work out what the “Magic Sauce” is! The social value focus, commitment to investing in people and their development plus a real family feel and environment stands out as an observation at this early stage of my time with the group.

Any hobbies, clubs, beliefs, activities you would like to share? I am a passionate golfer (although a current injury has got in the way of this for the last 18 months) – my current handicap is 5 but can see this rising once I am fully fit. I also enjoy carp fishing.

I am a passionate family man and have two daughters, one of which has given my wife and I two grandsons who are four and one who we love spending time with.
