Letters to the Editor Cont. from Page 8

approached them (it was so touching to see them holding hands and slowly walking towards the magazine tables) and said, "Hello."

Lyle, as a Christian (and without any exaggeration) their mouths openly widely but no words came out! Then, they smiled and -- God is my witness -- they slowly came towards me and slowly, and warmly, hugged me! I am not ashamed to admit that I had tears in my eyes! We spoke briefly and I asked them to wait for a moment. I rushed to the library entrance and got a Borscht Belt story in The Paper from the news rack there, and rushed back to give it to them! Lyle . . . they actually asked me to autograph the two copies for them! The sprinklers went off again and I had to wipe the tears away. Did I really mean that much to them? I signed them both, "To Gerald Butler, Sr., all my best wishes! Thanks for being a fan!" I signed hers the same, with "To Margaret Butler . . . " You know, Lyle, a lot of people take our senior citizens for granted simply because they are old. A lot of people mistreat them or shame them or even take advantage of them, financially. To me, they are precious, and invaluable! As I was turning to leave with my friend, Lola, I looked over my shoulder and there they stood, the two of them, white haired, clasping The Paper with both hands and smiling from ear-toear just looking at it!

Lola asked me outside the library, "That was a nice thing you did, Friedrich. What made you do it?" I just smiled, unable to talk at the moment because of the emotional moment I just had. Finally, when Lola kept looking at me with a gentle smile, I managed to say, "Lola, it was they -- who gave me a valuable gift, today. Not the other way around. We are the ones who should ask: what made them do this wonderful thing? They are the real gift-givers, not I." -- White Eagle, love and hugs, always! (Fredreich Gomez Escondido, CA.) Damn good writing! Having Mr. Frederick Gomez in your writing stable is like having Secretariat in your barn, Babe Ruth in your dugout, Michael Phelps on your swim team. Need we say more? Mr. Editor, Lyle E. Davis, as my grandpa says, "You sure know how to pick 'em."

Remember Jan Michael Vincent? He had it all. Looks, charm, money, start of Airwolf in which he played the starring role. He married, once, twice, now a third time.

He used his fame and fortunet to get only the best of alcohol and drugs. And it cost him, big time.

This is Jan Michael Vincent today.

Those drugs and alcohol must have really been good. They cost him a career; today he is broke, owes $70,000 in back taxes, has had his right leg amputate twice, still battles the bottle. His career is no longer ‘promising.’
