Rad Women of Philadelphia 2018

Welcome to the 2018 edition of Rad Women of Philadelphia! This book was created by our third grade class at Greene Street Friends School in Philadelphia. We have been studying rad women* and now we want to make a book about rad women who are working and living in our own city. To make this book, first we wrote letters to our rad women partners. Then we made videos to send to one another. We started collecting information from the letters and videos. Lastly, we wrote our pages. Some of us wrote them on the computer and some made them by hand. We also traced pictures of our rad women partners, wrote their names, and made backgrounds in Art class. Rad means awesome and we call these women rad because they’re awesome and rad. Rad is short for radical, which comes from the latin word that means, “from the root,” so rad also describes a person who is uprooting injustice in their community, which a lot of these women are doing in different ways. Rad can also mean doing something for the first time and doing it before everyone else. We think this project is important because it shows that women can be rad, strong, and powerful. Thanks for reading! Love,
