Intro My name is Sharon Barr. I have been asked by Roslyn Darling to make my first folio investigating contra indications and to describe L’oreal shampoo and conditioning products also describe different massage techniques for the hair and scalp.

Contra-indications Cuts and abrasions.
For open, weeping, cuts or abrasions on a clients head I would not carry out any chemical treatments at all. Depending on how bad the cut or abrasion is a dry cut maybe possible.
Head lice.
A small white egg firmly attached to your hair identifiable signs is intense itching or small red lesions at each new feeding site. This is very contagious. If I was working with a client I would let them know or discretely inform my lecturer to advise them to go straight go straight to a chemist. I would only finish cutting the hair if already started.

Impetigo
Impetigo is highly contagious it is fluid filled blisters that break and scab over with a yellow filled crust. Because this is highly contagious and spreads very easily I would not work on a client’s hair and would advise medical treatment straight away.

Massage techniques
Effleurage This is one of the most common techniques of massage. Using light or deep stroking gliding motion spreading the shampoo and conditioner through the hair. It increases the blood circulation and strenghtens the scalp tissue. It is beneficial to the client because it improves blood circulation, relaxes muscles and stimulates the nervous system.
Petrissage This is a scalp manipulation with slow, deep kneading movements used when conditioning. When done correctly it increases blood circulation to the scalp. The client will benefit from this because it stimulates the skin and increases blood flow. Rotary This is done with circular movements used for cleaning the hair and scalp while shampooing. It loosens grease and dirt from the hair, it also encourages blood flow. It will leave the clients hair strenghtened from the roots it will also make them feel relaxed.

Health and safety
Check your hands frequently for any problems Always dry your hands correctly after washing Any spills always get cleaned up If working in small areas keep well ventillated Wear gloves provided when using chemicals
Always keep your hand well mosturised Always check water temperature before using on a client Always gown up a client properly Never touch plugs or sockets with wet hands

Conclusion
When I was asked to do this first folio I thought it was a bit soon as I didn’t know much about what was being asked. I have now realised that with the more research I have been doing the easier it has become with identifing contra indications or even using the correct shampoo and conditioners on a clients hair.
