What should be in a First Aid Kit? First Aid kits come in various shapes and sizes with many sold for the car, the bike, or even going out hiking. They come with all kinds of contents, but what should be in a First Aid Kit? Believe it or not there is no mandatory requirement it depends on what you need. If you get more cuts than anything, you might need more plasters, or you might need dressings for larger cuts. Eitherway, here is an outline from the HSE website: http://www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/faqs.htm The decision on what to provide will be influenced by the findings of the first-aid needs assessment. As a guide, where work activities involve low hazards, a minimum stock of first-aid items might be:

A leaflet giving general guidance on first aid (for example, HSE’s leaflet Basic advice on first aid at work); individually wrapped sterile plasters (assorted sizes), appropriate to the type of work (hypoallergenic plasters can be provided if necessary); sterile eye pads; individually wrapped triangular bandages, preferably sterile; safety pins; large sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings;

medium-sized sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings; disposable gloves

Tip: Whatever kit you choose a) Always ensure you top it up as its used. b) Always use gloves before treating any wound to avoid spreading infection (even if treating your own family) c) Always discard out dated content. AWA Training has a range of First Aid kits available at their courses ranging from ÂŁ5 upwards
