2021 was another great year for Community Service within the AWA, and in total our members donated more than 600 hours of their time to our three current activities: Food From The Heart, Willing Hearts, and our newest event, the Beach Clean-Up. 84 different volunteers all did their part to enrich the Singapore community that we live in, and with covid restrictions hopefully loosening as we move further into 2022, hopefully more and more of our members can join us for these fun activities!

Willing Hearts Volunteers Ready for Action

With Earth Day just around the corner, the Beach CleanUp activity is particularly relevant, and this event is a great way to really see the difference that your efforts can make – Singapore’s beaches might look pretty clean at first glance, but the before and after pictures that were taken at our inaugural event show a different picture!

Seeing all of the trash collected is also a great reminder of the little ways in which we can all try and live a little more sustainably – by following the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra, we can help try to eliminate the quantity of plastic bottles, disposable cutlery, and takeaway food containers that were seen littered across the beach at Pasir Ris. And don’t get me started on the many plastic straws that we found…!

Food From the Heart Volunteers

If you are interested in joining us for any of the Community Service activities, check out the calendar on the AWA website to see what is coming up….and if the thing you are passionate about doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves, then let us know by e-mailing commservice@awasingapore.org, and maybe you can start leading your own group of AWA eco-warriors into battle.
