Social Singles, Social Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Clinics, Sub List and Assessments: The Definitions
Writing this update while watching the Australian Open taking place in Melbourne…with spectators! It gives us hope that tennis will be at least somewhat back to normal in 2022. And AWA Tennis has a full slate of events for the coming months.
Clinics are offered in 6-week sessions for Beginner, Intermediate and now also Advanced level players, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Look out for a new session starting in March.

Social Singles is our newest AWA Tennis offering. Fun and slightly competitive, Social Singles was created for absolute flexibility in scheduling. Coordinator Julia Maywald puts together a roster for the 3 pools of players. It’s up to the players to schedule their matches as and when it is mutually convenient, within the season dates.

Social Doubles is a great way to get more doubles experience and meet future social tennis partners. Coordinator Lauren Raps puts together foursomes for each week. The matches consist of 3 mini-sets to 4; after each set, partners rotate so each player has played with the other 3 on the court with her.
Mixed Doubles kicked off just before the enhanced Covid measures late last year. The pairs who got in a few matches had a great time and are looking forward to seeing this event back in 2022. For Mixed Doubles, sign up with the male partner of your choice - spouse, colleague, neighbor, Rafael Nadal, whoever you can rope in. Our coordinator will put together a roster of matchups, to be scheduled at mutual convenience - evenings, weekends, lunchtimes, whenever.
Sub List: Can’t commit to a whole season? Then sign up to be a sub. Coordinators will reach out to you when players are looking for a one-off sub.
And of course, Tennis Assessments, the key to participating in AWA tennis activities and events. You are required to have an up-to-date assessment (within the past 2 years). AWA Tennis Assessments are now run with Savitar Tennis Centre on a monthly basis.
To sign up for AWA Tennis, check out the AWA Tennis webpage under “Sports”. And, sign up for our monthly newsletter. And, why not join our closed Facebook group as well (AWA Tennis)?
