Letter from the Pastor
January 2021
Dear Avondalers,
about how we experience God, connect and care for January and February are some of my favorite one another, and share months of the year. Mainly because they inevitaChrist’s love with our neighbly involve either snow days or even cozy rainy bor. However, the church of days that inspire reading good books, watching Jesus Christ at Avondale is a favorite films, family board games, or some sort of remarkable church. We are baking. a resilient congregation and More than all that, the start of a new year brings the adaptability we have with it an energy of anticipation. What will the exercised in the past has next twelve months have in store for us? What prepared us to be flexible in the future. The leadnew opportunities are just on the horizon? Where ership that God has put into place is full of creawill God call us next? These are all tive, smart, and spiritually healthy peoquestions that the Leadership of ple. I am excited to learn from them Avondale will be asking over the next A new year… and work with them and discern with number of weeks as we plan and prethem the ways of God as we move into pare for 2021 and beyond. Where will God this next year of ministry. I hope you will be excited too. Naturally the biggest lesson from call us next? 2020 was that ministry is an opportunity to adapt and explore new ways of sharing God’s Good News and following Christ in our lives and in the world around us. We understand, perhaps more than ever, that how we lived into our call to do ministry doesn’t always work in these new pandemic days. As one Elder who I admire very much said, “We can’t take it for granted that the way we have done ministry can still be done the same way.”
Friends, as we head into another year and into this new day that God has created, may it inspire us to see what new surprise God has for this place we call Avondale, where love and kindness connect with those whom we live and learn and serve.
I think they are right! The circumstances that this pandemic dictate forces us to think differently
