Amnesty International's Freedom Challenge Week is happening at Avondale College this week! This year the team are raising funds to support Amnesty International in their fight against the unethical production of palm oil, which has a devastating effect on both the people working on plantations and the environment. There are a number of activities throughout the week which will give students the opportunity to learn about what really goes into our food and cleaning products, where these ingredients come from and how they are made. A big thank you to all who supported yesterday's fundraising efforts through the mufti day and bake sale.

TREES FOR SURVIVAL Trees for Survival is an environmental education programme which involves young people growing and planting native trees to restore natural habitats by helping landowners revegetate erosion prone land, improve stream flow and water quality and increase biodiversity. Avondale College has over 50 students involved in the programme who produce and care for approximately 3000 trees per growing season! Over the past seven years we have replanted an old dairy farm on the Kaipara, and in 2017 we have started a new partnership with the Mataia Restoration project which is also on the Kaipara Habour. The trees that are nurtured by Trees for Survival students have a positive impact on our environment, meaning a cleaner, greener New Zealand.
