Student parliament

Author: Bob Mahona - A mock parliament or Student parliament is a prototype of a true parliament in a country. It uses nearly all the rules and regulations which a real parliament has. It also follows the structure of a true parliament in terms of the two major groups inside the parliament {government and Opposition} Department of Politics and Public Administration at University of Madras is among the very few university which has an active student parliament, which also is being documented on every session of the parliament for

future records. Mr. Ramu Manivanan as an active Human Rights activists and a politics teacher, has been giving his full support on the student parliament so as to make it more better and even to provide awareness to other educational institutions by inviting different professors and other guests in the field of politics.

Previous Student Parliament's pictures

Its sad to see few students in the department not taking the student parliament serious despite all the hard working of the people who decided to start it and organize it. Some students come for the Student Parliament just to speak to their friends, to have attendance, some come in the first session and then leave before the second session starts, some they don’t even come at all. I do know that people will be sleeping in the parliament, etc but we are trying to build better politicians whom will spend enough time to sleep at home and be active inside the parliament to represent their people. Let me take some time to remind people what are the advantages of the Student Parliament. ¬ A place where a student can have a practice of training him/her self on how to present an issue to high ranked personnel. ¬ To learn how to avoid to answer a question by diverting the question or point in a proper manner. ¬ To control your emotions whenever someone push an issue which hits you direct or indirect. ¬ Step into the shoes of high officials and taking their responsibilities. ¬

Understand different bills in the foam of real life.

¬ Giving you a chance to put your views on a particular bill which was passed or issued by the true parliament ¬ Better understanding of how the parliament works and how it executes its activities. ¬ Building confidence in delivering topics, speaking publicly, asking questions. ¬ Using a particular language in a right tone and words to deliver whatever you want to say. ¬ Building a good structure of team work by coordinating with your members to push a topic or questions to the other or to speaker

The Student Parliament is part of the alternative education of the department of Politics and Public Administration. Every Friday afternoon is dedicated to alternative education activities, such as movie sessions, educative games, educational trip, etc It is open to everyone to come attend these activities.

I think by giving these important advantages, the few students

US failure Author: Bob Mahona - It has been many years since United State has been acting as the world prefect and the fighter of bringing Peace, order and democracy all over the world. Taking advantage of its economic position and also geographic position, United states has been the major interferer in all other people`s (countries) affairs. Because of its interfering it has brought and build a huge hate on United State and not only its government but now it has made its citizens to be targets in other countries. The United States of America citizens have a huge fear of their lives and safety whenever they travel outside their country territories. Since the end of cold war the world has been hearing only one country all over and over. With the motto of United states of America which says fighter and promoter of democracy and liberty. In reality it has been the source of problems, poverty, conflicts, refugees etc. United states of America using its foreign policy at that time “Fighting against terror” they had invaded many countries, and do whatever they wanted, take prisoners, torture them even kill them {this can be proved with the report of Torture by the senate conducted by the CIA or their Private contractors films} etc. and in the news they will announce the killings of “insurgencies” or if the story will leak they will use “Collateral”, this can also be proved by the WIKILEAK reports.

« Yet no one in the side of the US government will be taken to court nor to what we call International Criminal Court. »

United States Of America started different programs to spy on other countries or individuals in the name of Protecting the National Security and National Interest, this can be proven by Edward Snowden (former NSA agency) who is a whistleblower on the matter. United States have been invading many countries and whenever asked they say they where suppressing a threat to that country or that person is required by the US government. This can be proven on how they captured the son of Col. Gaddafi, he was been transported then they intercept his convoy and capture him and ran away with him.

Recently the US coalition forces headed by NATO though pentagon had bomb a hospital in Iraq and the US government issued a statement saying the bombing was required by the Iraq forces, later under their commanding in chief they say they offer deep apologies and they shall compensate on all people who had lost their love ones. Today, we have a problem of ISIS which historically was established by US themselves and now they can't handle it they find a person to blame. Iraq with whatever ups and down they had but it was a country with order which President Saddam Hussein had manage to control but today is a junk of weapons, mass killings, fear of if we may not wake tomorrow etc. Let’s not forget Arab Spring which many countries had affected on it and many of them are still suffering. Today, Russia comes into Syria and start doing what US and his friends couldn’t do for years (removing ISIS) but everyday their will be a statement in the media by the US government or its agency saying what Russia is doing is wrong, they kill people etc. all news channels nowadays they just talk about a country whom since cold war had never launch any military approach outside its territory and now its their first time. Look at the killings of Palestine by the Israeli forces, but US as the prefect of the world, as a guy who protects peace, democracy and liberty can't even comment on what Israel is doing and continue to do. Such as the horrible scene of a soldier using a huge power on a person who is pregnant in her stomach and a child in her hand. All these are invisible to US and what is visible is Russia bombing ISIS in Syria. Yet no one in the side of the US government will be taken to court nor to what we call International Criminal Court.

"We must have a human approach. As far as socioeconomic theory, I am Marxist," he said to the audience on Tuesday, at the lecture entitled ‘A Human Approach to World Peace’ which was organized by Presidency University. The Tibetan spiritual leader partly blamed capitalism for inequality and said he regarded Marxism as the answer: "In capitalist countries, there is an increasing gap between the rich and the poor. In Marxism, there is emphasis on equal distribution,” he said, adding that “many Marxist leaders are now capitalists in their thinking”.

He said that he regarded economic and social inequality in Indian Union as the reason for ongoing discrimination against women and low social castes, calling on the world’s youth to take the 21st century from a century of violence to a “century of peace”. “I will not see this in my lifetime but we must start working on it. Those below thirty are the generation of the 21st century. You have to stop violence with your will, vision and wisdom," adding that nuclear weapons should be banned.

Tamils losing traditional lands Ceylon Today - Traditional lands of Tamil people are being stolen in the North and East in the pretext of development thus making Tamils stateless on the lines of Tibetans, Palestinians and Red Indians who are described as stateless in the world, said former Jaffna District Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian Suresh Premachchandran. "Tibetans, Palestinians and Red Indians have lost their traditional lands to majority communities. Tamils would face the same fate and tragedy if they fail to stop appropriation and militarization of their traditional lands in the North and East by majority communalists," he said.

The Indian Union offers more military aid to Sri Lanka The Hindu - India on Monday offered to provide technical assistance to the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for “upgrading” its military requirements. This was conveyed by Gen. Dalbir Singh, Chief of the Indian Army, during a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lt. Gen. Crishanthe De Silva, according to a release hosted on the website of the SLA. Asked about the offer, the SLA’s spokesperson said this could be in the areas of “human resources development and hardware”, declining to provide further details. Gen. Singh, who is here at the invitation of Lt. Gen. Silva, highlighted the importance of modernising the SLA to suit international standards.
The SLA chief wanted the Indian Army to explore possibilities of new areas of training. The visiting Chief assured him of his support to continue training programmes. Gen. Singh was given a “comprehensive briefing” on the SLA by Maj. Gen. B.A. Perera, Director General-General Staff. On his arrival on Sunday, the Indian Army Chief paid floral tributes at a memorial, set up in Battaramulla near here, for soldiers of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF), which fought against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during 1987-1990. Gen. Singh, who was part of the IPKF as a company commander during the ‘Operation Pawan’, which was launched to recapture Jaffna, is likely to go to the capital of the Northern Province and visit another IPKF memorial in Palaly.

Not a single Tamil political prisoner can remain imprisoned any longer. After 40 Years, Time to End the Occupation of Western Sahara Huffington Post - Emhamed Khadad, MINURSO Coordinator, Frente POLISARIO; Advisor, President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR). This November marks forty years since 350,000 Moroccans crossed into the Western Sahara as part of the so-called "Green March." November 6 is a dark day for the Saharawi people, because it marks Morocco's illegal military invasion and partial occupation of Western Sahara.

In October of 1975, the International Court of Justice had totally rejected Morocco's claim of sovereignty over Western Sahara, and having failed to win the legal argument, Moroccan King Hassan II responded with force. He ordered the Green March, a civilian invasion, which was reinforced with an escort of 20,000 Moroccan soldiers.

With Francisco Franco on his deathbed, the Spanish colonial forces that had controlled the territory since 1884 did nothing to resist the annexation. In fact, the Spanish struck a deal to cede control of the territory to Morocco and Mauritania. The "Madrid Accords" between Spain, Morocco and Mauritania deliberately excluded any representatives of the indigenous Saharawi people of Western Sahara. Mauritania later relinquished its claim, but Morocco has continued its occupation in defiance of international law ever since. The Saharawi people refused to stand idly by and watch while our land was stolen. For fifteen years, the Frente POLISARIO resisted the invasion and fought a war with Morocco. In 1991 the Organization of African Unity (the precursor to the African Union) and UN jointly brokered a ceasefire between the Frente POLISARIO, the legitimate political representatives of the Saharawi people, and Morocco with the agreement that the Saharawi people would be allowed to exercise our right to self-determination through a referendum. We are still waiting - a people divided between a brutal and oppressive Moroccan occupation in the west and the harsh desert refugee camps of southwest Algeria. My country is divided by a 2,700 kilometers of sand "berm" that is littered with landmines and manned by tens of thousands of Moroccan troops. The landmines, in direct contravention of the Ottawa Treaty on anti-personnel mines, pose daily risks and dangers to the lives of the Saharawi population and their livestock in the liberated area of the territory. Those under occupation are denied basic human rights and freedoms; they are discriminated against and are frequently subject to arbitrary arrest, intimidation, detainment and torture. Those living in the refugee camps are exiled from their homeland; the precariousness of this situation was highlighted late

last month when serious flooding destroyed the camps and created a major humanitarian disaster. For decades we have followed a peaceful path towards liberation, patiently making our case to the world that we too deserve to exercise our fundamental right to self-determination. We do this knowing that we have the full weight of of international law on our side and that no country in the world recognizes Morocco's claim of sovereignty over Western Sahara. Some of the strongest support for our right to self-determination comes from the African continent, where many countries have fought their own battles for freedom in recent history. Western Sahara is the last colony in Africa, classified by the UN as a Non-Self-Governing Territory, awaiting a process of decolonization. The African Union has been clear in its support, stating that "Western Sahara remains an issue in the completion of the decolonization process of Africa" that must be resolved. Many countries in Africa and around the world formally recognize the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, which is a full and founding member of the African Union. Morocco, on the other hand, is the only country in Africa that is not a member of the African Union due to its illegal occupation of Western Sahara. And still, the UN Security Council has chosen to ignore the calls of Africans and the African Union to rid our continent of colonialism and exploitation. For almost 25 years the UN Security Council has had the responsibility to facilitate a referendum on self-determination in accordance with the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara, tellingly called the United Nations Mission on the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). But France and other permanent members of the Security Council have failed to live up to this obligation by acquiescing to, or in some cases assisting with, Moroccan obstruction of the negotiating process. In the context of this stalemate, it is incumbent upon the UN Secretary-General to point the finger at Morocco and acknowledge that it is the reason why the UN's efforts to resolve the conflict have ground to a halt. As a first step the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon must follow through on his promise to visit Western Sahara by the end of 2015. This would at least send a signal to the Saharawi people that the UN is serious about resolving the conflict. It is hypocritical for the major Western powers, particularly the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to claim that they are the bastions of democracy and human rights while failing to stand up to Morocco when it denies the Saharawi people the basic right of self-determination. All we ask for is what we are owed under international law: the right to decide our own future. Too often, the world has ignored the situation in Western Sahara because the ceasefire has held and we have not returned to war. But the status quo is not sustainable. An increasingly restless generation of Saharawi youth will not accept that it is their fate to live and die without ever knowing freedom from occupation. The international community should take heed and live up to its responsibilities before it is too late.

C.N. Annadurai Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai, endearingly called ‘Anna’ (elder brother), was born on 15 September 1909. Annadurai had his early education at the Panchiyappa’s High School at Kancheepuram and completed his School Final in 1929. He had to break his studies for a while on account of financial difficulties and worked as a clerk in the Local Municipal Office. He later joined the Panchaiyappa’s College, Madras, and passed the Intermediate Examination in 1931. Continuing his studies in the same College he obtained his B. A. Honours and then M. A. degree in Econimics and Politics (1934). After his M. A. he worked as a teacher in a Panchaiyappa School for nearly a year, and then turned to journalism and politics which became his principal field interest in later life. He became the chief minister of Madras Presidency on 1967, which was renamed under his tenure to Tamil Nadu. He died in 1969. He fought for the self-determination of dravidians from the Indian Union. « We must contest more elections, win more seats and that way, win the confidence of the people; and when it is hot, we can strike and strike hard », « Dravidians want the right of selfdetermination … We want a separate country for southern India » He later step back during the sino-indo war, the sixteenth amendment also called AntiSecessionist Amendment was passed as it requested the public office seeker to pledge allegiance that they « will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India ». he later said « To make the Dravidian state a separate state was our ideal. A situation has arisen where we can neither talk nor write about this ideal. Of course we can destroy the party by undertaking to violate the prohibition. But once the party itself is destroyed there will not be any scope for the ideal to exist or spread. That is why we had to give up the ideal. » Here are few of his famous quotes: « India is a continent; it should be divided into a number of countries. The continent of Europe has 32 independent countries. No one argues that it should be a single country ruled by a single government. Similarly there is no need for India to be under a single government.» « If India is divided into many countries, each country could develop its economy according to its circumstances. It would also put an end to one region robbing the resources of another. All races can achieve equality only if each race has its own country and government. We fear the

thought of one race living under the rule of another. This fear gives birth to violent rebellion. It is necessary to divide India racially to prevent such violent revolutions. The reason one race has not choked another race to death in India so far is the British guns. When the British leave, India will become a killing field. »

« Since every school in India teaches English, why can't it be our link language? Why do Tamils have to study English for communication with the world and Hindi for communications within India? Do we need a big door for the big dog and a small door for the small dog? I say, let the small dog use the big door too! » « We will go to every part of Tamil Nadu and tell the people that Hindi is coming and that it is like a thunder strike on the heads of Tamil and Dravidian people.... If Hindi were to become the official language of India, Hindi-speaking people will govern us. We will be treated like third rate citizens. »
