Shawna's Thanksgiving Basket Brigade 2022 The annual Shawna‘s Thanksgiving Basket Brigade will once again provide full meals for those in need in the south Florida area. The Brigade, which was first launched in 2016, collects baskets with specific food items from generous and caring individuals and distributes them utilizing partners such as Runner’s Edge in Boca Raton, and Advent Lutheran Church in Boca Raton and Lantana.

AQUANAUTS ADAPTIVE AQUATICS, under the direction of Executive Director Worth O’Brien, offers SCUBA lessons and courses. Individuals with disabilities, both physical and psychological challenges that might otherwise be discouraged from being active, are given the opportunity of diving. These classes are taught with the utmost attention to safety and consideration of the participant.

The instruction techniques utilized have evolved over decades of accomplished teaching and research, resulting in a learning experience that is safer and fun!

Multilevel student certification enables AQUANAUTS ADAPTIVE AQUATICS to train individuals with all types of disabilities, impairments, or challenges.

Chicago Musician Joe Freer Relocates to Fort Lauderdale Professional Crooner, Vocalist and Guitar Player Cites Florida as Having a Better Climate in Many Categories as the Reason for His Successful Relocation to South Florida

Known and appreciated by Chicago bands and fans Joe is now delighting audiences all over South Florida at charity events, rooftop parties, on board yachts and at local live music venues such as Blue Jean Blues in Ft. Lauderdale.

Joe owned a successful commercial painting and contracting business in downtown Chicago. He relocated to Florida for her climate, both business climate and the warmer weather.

He is well known for Neil Diamondesque vocals and his ability to wow the ladies much like the late great Elvis Presley.

Coral Springs Executive Named Toastmasters International President Matt Kinsey becomes leader of global educational organization

Kinsey is the managing director and Chief Information Security Officer of IT Fusion, LLC in Coral Springs, Florida, which was formed in 2021 as a result of a merger between MK Tech Group and three other local IT firms. Kinsey oversees operations and security for this IT consulting firm that services small and medium-sized businesses in the South Florida area.

Kinsey holds a master's degree in computer information systems from the University of Phoenix, Arizona. He has a certificate in strategic management and was recognized with the Silver Beaver and Vigil Honor awards for his work with the Boy Scouts of America. As a Boy Scout volunteer for more than 25 years, he has held numerous positions within the organization, including Scoutmaster, district chairman, event chairman, and the council's camping chairman A Toastmaster since 2003, Kinsey is a charter member of his home club, Outspoken Toastmasters, in Coral Springs. He has held a number of high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of educational achievement in the organization.

"I have learned that to be most successful, you need to lead with your heart and not your head," he says.

"There is no finer program than Toastmasters for helping people build their self-confidence, communication and leadership skills."

The Standard, High Line’s Boom Boom Room hosted a star-studded evening, with partygoers including Kate Moss, Jordan Barrett, and Georgia May Jagger who attended after walking in the Foo and Foo runway show. DJ Avalon Lurks spun into the morning hours against the twinkling city skyline as guests dined on passed sliders and fries. Shot by the iconic Cobrasnake, the swanky evening was reminiscent of parties thrown in the early days of the Boom Boom Room, and rounded out a week of star-studded events for the iconic downtown hotel.

South Florida PBS Health Channel named finalist in 2022 Sharecare Awards South Florida PBS' Health Channel is named finalist for its two original productions, "Hope is Here: Episode 4 & Episode 5" in the Cancer Category of the 2022 Sharecare Awards, which celebrates the year's best digitally driven programs that promote health and wellbeing.

HOPE IS HERE features inspiring and refreshing personal stories told by cancer survivors, and the loved ones of those who lost the fight against this "emperor of all maladies" and sparked a movement. The stories highlighted in Hope is Here are based off, Bonnie J. Addario's book, The Living Room, which focuses on the impact of lung cancer on the lives of its victims. Mrs. Addario's personal lung cancer story is shared in episode one of Hope is Here.

The two episodes named finalist include the stories of Gina Hollenbeck and Emily Bennett Taylor. As a mother, Gina Hollenbeck forges ahead towards a vibrant and meaningful journey with a mission to help find a cure for not only herself but for others who suffer from this deadly disease. In episode 5, we meet newlyweds Emily Bennett Taylor and her husband Miles. They recount their determination to live life to its fullest while fighting for the chance to have children despite a grave cancer diagnosis.

FLIPANY Honors National and Local Partnerships Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth (FLIPANY) is honored to have the support of various local and national partners. The Healthy Students Healthy Community Partnership (HSHC) was developed to improve the health of Deerfield Beach Middle School students and families. As part of this initiative, FLIPANY serves as the lead agency and has received a two-year grant to create change and focus on improving the health of the Deerfield Beach community, which was one of 20 communities from 11 states that benefit from the collaboration.

The Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge funds the HSHC partnership, the American Public Health Association, the Aetna Foundation, and the National Association of Counties and Healthy Places by Design. FLIPANY is proud that the local communities have supported the HSHC partnership, allowing the program to flourish.

Along with our national partners, FLIPANY has had the pleasure of engaging in two outstanding local partnerships: Farm Share and the Children's Services Council of Broward County. Farm Share is a Florida-based nonprofit food bank that provides families in need with fresh produce and healthy food to which they may not otherwise have access. Children's Services Council of Broward County has made it its mission to provide Broward County children with the resources necessary to become healthy and responsible adults.

Incredibly, the market has had the opportunity to reach people beyond South Florida. Recently, a family of three from Kentucky lost everything due to a tornado and came to Deerfield Beach to stay with family in the area. The mom expressed relief knowing that receiving a weekly food supply eases the burden on her family.
