MOVADO Launches Its Next Artist Series With Renowned CubanAmerican Artist Carmen Herrera to Benefit Public Art Fund Movado is proud to announce its next Artist Series collaboration with Carmen Herrera, a renowned 106-year-old Cuban-American artist. Herrera's style, defined by bold colors, strong lines, and dynamic geometric forms, portrays a sense of orderly minimalism influenced by her early training as an architect. Her groundbreaking creations are a unique cross-cultural dialogue within the international history of modernist abstraction. Carmen's masterpieces have been displayed at solo shows and in permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and leading art institutions worldwide.

Movado, Herrera, and Public Art Fund first joined forces in 2019, when Movado Group Foundation was the presenting sponsor of Public Art Fund's landmark exhibition Estructuras Monumentales, Herrera's first-ever major exhibition of outdoor sculptures, on view in New York City's City Hall Park.

"It was important to me that this collection represent work from throughout my career," stated Carmen Herrera.

The Carmen Herrera X MOVADO Artist Series consists of five unique designs inspired by some of Herrera's most seminal works, reinterpreted through the lens of Movado's iconic Museum Dial. The collection represents Herrera's vision of geometric abstraction reflected on the museum dial, creating wearable works of art. Herrera drew inspiration from an early black and white painting, created in 1952 while she lived in Paris. Untitled (1952) is now in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York. She was also inspired by works from her Estructuras series, a group of sculptures first constructed in 1971 and still created today, as well as the Blanco y Verde painting series that was completed between 1959 and 1971. For other designs, Herrera chose to showcase more recent work in the timepieces, selecting a painting from 1989 and one from 2016 as inspiration. When curating for this collection, Herrera sought out works that are symmetrical as well as asymmetrical, highlighting contrasting balance and tension, color and form.

The Artist Series is limited, with only 100 pieces created of each style and is available now on Movado.com. A total of seven collector's sets that included all five watches in the series, along with exclusive packaging, were also created and sold out immediately. In celebration of this launch, Movado is proud to support Public Art Fund by donating a portion of the proceeds.

The first Movado Artist Series launched in 1988 with Andy Warhol, featuring Warhol's photography on the dials of his Movado "Times 5." Movado has continued to collaborate with a diverse group of artists, including sculptor Yaacov Agam, pop artist James Rosenquist, designer Max Bill, graffiti artist Kenny Scharf, and environmentally conscious photographer and philanthropist Alexi Lubomirski.

Comprometida desde hace años con la causa venezolana, muchos de los documentales de este 2021 de Denegri estuvieron concentrados en mostrar las diferentes realidades que les toca vivir a los venezolanos en medio de la dictadura de Nicolás Maduro. Junto al equipo de su productora Trinitus Productions y en alianza con otras productoras como Black Hole Enterprises, Picante Films y 360 Media Inc., además del apoyo de Hassenfeld Family Foundation y Dream It Foundation, Denegri logró llevar a la pantalla de los Estados Unidos historias de familias y distintos personajes tanto dentro como fuera de Venezuela.

Uno de los documentales nominados fue "El Peor Lugar Del Mundo", un corto documental que realizó en coproducción con el reconocido periodista venezolano Luis Olavarrieta y los productores Nelson Bustamante y Jorge González, además de todo su equipo de Trinitus Productions. Este documental cuenta la historia de Geremy, un niño que padece cáncer infantil como tantos miles de otros niños de Venezuela, y que debe trasladarse desde muy lejos hacia la ciudad de Caracas para recibir quimioterapia semanalmente, enfrentando muchísimas dificultades. Para Geremy, salir de su pueblo se ha convertido en una pesadilla y, tal vez por eso, él considera Caracas como "el peor lugar del mundo". Sin embargo, Geremy no odia Caracas… sino todo lo que el viaje allí le hace sentir y experimentar. El documental recibió tres nominaciones: una en la categoría "Interés Humano", otra en "Narración" y una última en "Escritor". "Es un documental que demuestra la injusticia y todo lo que implica tener que viajar constantemente a un lugar que no te pertenece sólo para poder sobrevivir, y además muestra en detalle la decadencia del sistema de salud en Venezuela en estos momentos tan delicados", explicó a los medios una emocionada Natalia.

Una nominación especial fue la de la campaña "Los perros no saben leer", un especial de Corazones Guerreros en el que enseñan de forma divertida e interactiva sobre por qué los carteles de limpiar la popó de los perros no parece estar funcionando. El mismo fue ternado en la categoría "Anuncios de Servicio Público. Corazones Guerreros recibió además otra nominación por el especial "Todo Niños: Los Valores" en la categoría "Mejor Programa para Niños/Juventud". "Me pone tan feliz ver que temporada tras temporada, Corazones Guerreros sigue llamando la atención del público y el jurado de los Emmys por su contenido positivo para las familias hispanas", expresó antes de reunirse a celebrar las nominaciones con su equipo de trabajo.
