May 2014

From the desk of Jodi Kurtz, Chamber Chair It’s May, have you purchased your GALA tickets yet? This is one of our biggest Fundraisers of the year. The Chamber NEEDS YOU to make it a success! Reserve your tickets and table sponsorships without delay. Live From The Red Carpet is going to be even more fun than our last. For those of you who have never attended our Gala….your missing out! This year is the year to come! You may never know what celebrity you’ll bump into? Do you know who said the following famous one liners? Or what movie it came from? • “It’s Alive! It’s Alive!” Frankenstein; Dr. Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) • “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a da-” Gone With The Wind; Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) • “Elementary, my dear Watson” The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes; Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) • “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore” The Wizard of Oz; Dorothy (Judy Garland) • “Here’s looking at you, kid” Casablanca; Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) • “We all go a little mad sometimes” Psycho; Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) • “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse” The Godfather; Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) • “May the force be with you” Star Wars; Hans Solo (Harrison Ford) • “He-e-e-e-e-re’s Johnny!” The Shining, Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) • “You can’t handle the truth!” A Few Good Men; Colonel Nathan Jessup (Jack Nicholson)

I quizzed my staff on these and needless to say, I am feeling old. Most of them had never heard of these one liners. That’s okay I will still let them come to the Gala! The Gala Committee has been working hard. If we have not yet been to your business and you have something to donate to the silent auction or purchase tickets, please call Kristy at 952-432-8422. Someone would be more than happy to pick it up! And please remember we cannot make this fundraiser a success without your contribution!

President’s Perspective By: Edward Kearney Our Chamber Chair, Jodi wrote a creative letter on the cover on why you should attend. Here are a few more reasons, both official and “un”official. OFFICIAL REASONS to Attend Chamber’s Hollywood Nights Gala at Brackett’s’ June 5th • Cellphone bidding this year (now that’s cool!) • Instant professional checkout (Hired ABC Cellular Auctions) • At Elegant Brackett’s • Paparazzi are waiting • We are celebrating YOU • Only Red Carpet You’ll Probably Walk • FREE Professional Photos taken on Red Carpet • Chamber’s largest fundraiser • Reward & recognize your top performers • You’ve never missed one • Or you’ve never been to one • It is just fun and we’ve added all kinds of activities • It is in early June instead of early May so you can enjoy Brackett’s patio Un-OFFICIAL REASONS to attend • 3 RED Moon eclipses this year (our color). It’s a sign! • You can snap a selfie with Chair Jodi Kurtz and local celebrity Carla Warner • Chance to collect on all those drinks people bet you over the years • Your only chance to be Hollywood Famous for a night • American Idol didn’t give you a “Going to Hollywood” yellow pass • You missed the MN Zoo’s Beastly Ball so we are your last great gala shot • Guilt! People notice who “isn’t there” • Use up some of that money we saved you on no road assessments • Your competitors will be there partying with “your customers” • Because this is the ONLY Hollywood Party you were invited to • We have a talented Chair who wants to show you “a real party” • Best Parties are in kitchens. Warners’ Stellian knows kitchens & parties! • To see what Mayor Mary will wear (a Gatsby wig last year) • I won’t talk longer than a couple of minutes (really, I’ll try) • We won’t bore you with a live auction for the second year now • We know if you skipped last year (packed 220 people into Enjoy) so this is your make-good • You’re off the hook with your spouse who keeps asking for a night out • It’s on a work-night so it won’t interfere with your cabin • Scott Kadrlik used all his jokes last year so now you can finally laugh • Kristy Cleveland has worked hard on this and expects you there • George Clooney and Sandra Bullock won’t be there to compete with us • An excuse to buy that outfit and still deduct it as a business expense • The fun content in your blood is too low • Because a party is a terrible thing to waste • You’re not getting any younger (so get FREE photos looking your best now) Can’t wait to see all of you June 5th, 6:30 p.m. at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club.
