Hello
My name is Ava Yuska. I recently graduated from Iowa State University Summa Cum Laude with a B.F.A. degree in Interior Design and a minor in Business. Growing up, I didn’t know anything about what it meant to be a designer, but I somehow knew deep down a career in this field was right for me. My experience and education have truly brought my passion for design to life. I have attended multiple job shadows and recently held an internship at a commerical design firm this past summer. My goals for the future are simple. I strive to use my creativity, passion, and dedicated work ethic to design spaces where people can be positively impacted.

THE WINDY POINT HOTEL
WIND Y POINT HOTEL
PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Our team was tasked with designing a family-friendly oriented hotel located on Navy Pier, in Chicago, IL. We were given the existing floorplan but had freeedom to design beyond the structural integrity of the building. Out of my other three group members each of us were to design a feature space within the hotel as well as a guest room.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Our design’s purpose is to embody the essence of Chicago. By applying the municipal symbol of Chicago to the three towers, each represents multi-generational and functional spaces illustrating the most prominent aspects of the city – water, culture, and the people. In other words, our hotel’s design aspires to live up to the reputation of the “windy city” and welcome all of its visitors.

THE PARK 02
The PARK
PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Our team was tasked with redesigning a monumental part of Iowa States’s campus: Parks Library. After nearly 45 years without renovations it is essential for the 3rd and 4th floor to meet a new requirement of needs for our ever changing society. The most important of these challenges include designing for a 21st century library, comfort for students, and most importantly inclusive design.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Parks Library is a focal point for ISU’s campus. It’s at the CENTER of academics, socialization, and so much more. Our goal is to transform the 3rd & 4th floor into a space full of life and inclusivity. We hope to generate both a space of RETREAT and comfort but design spaces that allow for REJUVENATION. Our main focus will ultimately be to help design a space that fits in our ever changing society while being a place users are eager to visit.

INCLUSIVE DESIGN WELL

INTERVIEW RESULTS
- Most study alone but want others around
- Most visit between 12pm-3pm
- Most sit at open tables

The “outdoor” pergolas add an element of height, zoning, and interest to the space

The design displays the mix of work spaces but with elements of play seperated by a common path of travel

ESCAPE POD 03
ESCAPE POD
PROJECT INTRODUCTION
This project’s goal was to challenge our design capabilites with limited square footage. My class was tasked with developing a micro-home to accommodate a hypothetical young professional couple. We were encouraged to think outside of the box by focusing on current social, environmental, or economic issues.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Everyone deserves but, more importantly, needs a place of retreat for their own recovery and relief. Individuals everywhere struggle with stress/anxiety, and many battle to manage this internal strain. Through the layout and application in the micro home’s design, factors like warm muted colors, curvilinear forms, movement, and filtration are all ways in which this small space can become an escape from the struggles outside the pod.
