What are the main differences between hiring on a temp or permanent basis?

The main difference between the two is when hiring a temporary nurse, he/she is employed by and paid by Avanta Care, and you pay us an hourly rate for each hour the candidate works.

By hiring a permanent nurse, you are taking that nurse on to your books. Avanta Care take care of the resourcing, compliance, travel arrangements etc, you then pay us a fee when the nurse arrives and begins work.

Hiring permanent employees involves an initial payment, but proves to be more cost-effective than hiring temporary or agency workers in the long term.

How long does recruiting an international nurse take?

In general, from initial enquiry to the nurse beginning work, the application process can take anywhere up to 6 months. However, due to the support our team gives each nurse, the time frame is reduced significantly.

At the point of you interviewing potential candidates, under our guidance the candidate will have already completed a large percentage of the process.

We also have a selection of both national and international nurses available with NMC pins ready for interview.

Do I need a Sponsor Licence to hire international nurses?

On January 2021, a new ‘points-based’ immigration system replaced the previous rules for workers from outside the UK. Under the points-based system, nurses need to obtain enough points to guarantee a visa (See Page 10).

Employers will need to have a sponsor licence to recruit any worker from outside the UK, including EU, EEA and Swiss citizens. The fees, salary thresholds and skills requirements have also changed.
