I would also like to throw out a thank you to the wonderful MMI board members for all their hard work and help in making MMI 2016 such a success: Cyberdawg Foxclaw (MMI 2015 1st Runner Up), Bai Nightfire (MMI 2015 3rd Runner Up ), Adonis Hansome (Mr. MMI 2015), and last but surely not least Lady Falina Katze (Miss MMI 2016).

As I reflect on 2015 it is filled with both joy and excitement of the busy year we have had. I look forward to 2016 and what it brings for the family at L’Amour. I feel truly blessed for all that I have with my Second Life families.

We have been very busy around L’Amour Productions over the past few months. Currently we are in the midst of the Mr. & Miss Model International Competition with mere points separating the bottom from the top. Check out

We have had lots of wonderful laughs with all the challenges and some not so wonderful having to say goodbye to the contestants who were cut. I call 2016 MMI contestants my rugrats, and it’s never easy for me to say goodbye, as I am an emotionally driven human being. Sometimes I don’t know who it is harder on, me or them.

In our Spotlight we feature an interview with one of the kindest, most intelligent, funny ladies I have ever met – Kimmera Madison! Get to know the woman behind the brand that is Tres Beau.

We also include in this issue L’Amour’s 23rd and 24th Pazzo Style Challenges.

December brought us stylings of Winter Avant Garde and in January contestants styled late 80s/early 90s

New Wave Fashion inspired by the musical group Information Society.

I would like to thank Bai Nightfire, COO of Pazzo Style Challenge, for all of her hard work and dedication.

As we reflect on the month of love, look for our Valentine’s Special featuring two couples: DJ Tristain Savon and Britney Daines, and Nickle North-Sparrowtree and Jalissa NorthSparrowtree (JalissaNorth23). It was so much fun to read their tales of love that went from SL to RL – traditional as well as nontraditional. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

And last but not least a big giant hug and thank you to Jena Adder for being the glue that is holding not only myself together, but L’Amour Diversity Magazine. I am having beyond fun working with this amazing lady. She not only keeps me in check, but is always the little angel that sits on my shoulder saying Avaaaaa…...LOL!

The Woman Behind The Brand A Spotlight on Kimmera Correia (Kimmera Madison)

I find the Tres Beau brand has always been part of my Second Life. I remember the first time I went to Tres Beau I was like a kid in a candy store. It seemed like all of the best designers in the world were inspiration for this brand and the clothes that filled each room. Once a week my money would go to Tres Beau because in my heart I really felt like I was the coolest chic on the grid wearing Tres Beau designs.

Kimmera Correia (Kimmera Madison) is the Owner and Designer for Tres Beau Designs, one of the oldest fashion houses in SL, circa 2004.

She became a sponsor for MMI, and I knew she would be perfect for this Spotlight story.

I sat down with Kimmera and dove in to find out more about the woman behind the Tres Beau brand.

Ava: Hello Kimmera. Tell our readers how you came to live in the wonderful world of Second Life?

Kimmera: In 2003 I was contacted by a longtime friend I had worked with in the past, and was asked to come in and check out this “New Platform”...been here ever since LOL! Ava: During my research I came across your first outfit ever made. Do you remember the name of it Kimmera?

Kimmera: The first outfit I ever made was named White Lace, it was a club outfit. We were not yet wearing prim attachments, Flex did not exist as yet, so it was entirely done on the system layers. It went well with our pasty default skins and system hair; damn we were hawt!

Ava: LOL! That is just the truth and funny Kimmera. How long have you been designing the amazing styles of Tres Beau?

Kimmera: I dabbled in a few clothing items in 2003, but the Tres Beau store opened in July of 2004 after I was asked several times if I was going to sell what I made. I started with five items in a single vendor on a 512 parcel. Today, 100s of items later, Tres Beau takes up a full sim (smiles).

Ava: Were you always a fan of mesh Kimmera? If not explain.

Kimmera: Yes and no. I have actually produced mesh for about 18 years, but I focused on furnishings and accessories, which I have been dabbling again in. Mesh as clothing has been.... interesting...a HUGE challenge with an even bigger Learning curve! I curse whoever decided rigging was the way to go in avatar attachment (LOL!), but...I love a challenge; every day I learn something new.

Ava: Do you have a favorite genre to design?

Kimmera: I tend to gravitate towards the classics. I love Dior, Chanel, Galiano, Versace.

I have veered away from doing mostly formal…doing more casual wear. Though I still love working on wedding gowns.

Ava: I know for me my favorite Tres Beau gown of all time was Mely in Baby Blue and Ava Winter jumpsuit. Do you have an all-time favorite?

I tend to design what appeals to me and I would love to have or do my own in real life...

”

Kimmera: Yes. I love Mely as well. The Miaa Rebane gown, The Savoir Suit, The Heartache gown, the newer Gown Mi Amor, to name a few (smiles). I have had many over the years.

I tend to design what appeals to me and I would love to have or do my own in real life, such as Winter Whites. I own that in RL and it has always been a favorite.

Ava: I love it Kimmera, and when my avatar passes on in SL I will be buried in my Mely gown LOL. Kimmera what other passions do you have in SL, besides your obvious love of fashion?

Kimmera: Passions, I would say Hank Correia LOL. He is an amazing man and spoils me rotten! But as for other things, I love to build, I love live music, I am known as a hell of a motorcycle rider, I have raced and I crash

magnificently! Something new to my SL, Hank and I recently opened a new project that includes an Art Gallery, A Tres Beau satellite store and my new Home Furnishings Tres Beau Maison, and lastly, MacLintons Pub all located at the Magnificent Grove Residential Sims!

MacLintons is a live Music venue with all sorts of games and bowling. It is completely open to the public, and we welcome everyone to visit! We have amazing singers like FrankLee Antra, Jacqueline Luik and Clyde Barrow. It is a great time filled with amazing music and loads of laughs!

Ava: I know you have been in SL since 2004.

Tell me two things you love about SL and two things you don’t like?

Kimmera: I actually joined in 2003. Kimmera was born in 2004 after the original died a gruesome glitchy death...in SL, who knew LOL. I love so many things about SL it’s hard to just say two things. I would say the amazing friends I have met and the creativity.

Two things I don’t like: lag and um…rigging mesh LOL. Ava: I would like for our readers to get to know the wonderful lady behind the screen.

Can you tell our readers three things they might not know about you?

Kimmera: Hmm…I am a Certified Pastry Chef and have taught Sugar Art throughout the US and Canada, as well as side trips to the UK. I co-wrote a Sugar Art book in 2004.

I am also a retired Jeweler with my Gemology Certification. I’m sort of an artsy fartsy type of chick (smiles).

Ava: OK that settles it! If you’re ever in California you’re coming to make cakes with me. Obviously we all know you love your brand, but is there another designer that you love to wear?

Kimmera: LOL! Well...being in SL as long as I have been, I have created the occasional alt (coughs). On Kim, I wear Tres Beau only. On my alt, I love Dead Dollz, Blueberry, Diram, and so many many more. I admire the talents of so many. I applaud all designers and creators. They are the people that make SL what it is!

Ava: Congratulations on your recent marriage to Hank Correia. How are you enjoying married life?

Kimmera: Blissful (smiles). He’s pretty awesome, but don’t tell him I said so.

’stuff to Come

By Ahn Avion Seems like only less than a month ago when it was 2015. I suppose that’s because it was. Wow - time flies! So yeah, it’s January for just a little bit

to all who hunt. This hunt includes the option for the designers to charge $1L as an appreciation for all of their hard work and support; at last count, 28 stores have implemented the $1L charge.

I have said this after the start of every hunt, but it is true each time that I say it – this is the smoothest hunt we’ve had to date. All of the gifts were ready on time. They are all set to come as folders rather than objects to make it easier for hunters to get the landmark to the next store. When I say the ‘stuff groups have the most amazing designers, I’m not kidding! The hunt runs until February 29th.

Box of Stuff! Photo Contest “Box of Stuff!” is a judged photo contest with a twist. It’s free for anyone, male or female, and you need not be a model to enter. This contest is hosted by The Stuff groups and supported by the “Stuff Style” sales event.

How the contest works is simple, and it will give you a great chance to use your imagination: Each month there will be a free box of props set out in the Stuff Style sales room. To get yours, just teleport over to one of these locations and look for the wooden crate with the “Box of Stuff” sign on it.

Nickle and Jalissa North-Sparrowtree

By Ava Jhamin I think for me as a journalist in real life and in Second Life, my first thought before any story is that I have to connect in some way to what I am writing about. This for me will probably be one of the most satisfying stories I will ever write. I met Nickle NorthSparrowtree more than five years ago. She took some classes with me and it was an instant bond. So for her to become my SL daughter was a no brainer for me. I think the best part of my relationship with Nickle and Jalissa is that they are my go to people. They’re much younger then me, but ohhhhh they are so wise.

When Nickle met Jalissa she was like a great hurricane that came into our lives. I loved her instantly, and found her so spunky and so strong as a woman. I found her like my daughter so cute and refreshing. It wasn’t long after that I knew these two were meant to be.

So here Readers of Second Life is one of the greatest love stories ever told.

Ava: First off Nickle and Jalissa can you both tell me how it was that you came to be on Second Life?

Nickle: I came to Second Life when I was invited by someone I knew from another site. When I came over I wasn’t sure if I would stay and wasn’t even really active. So the account pretty much sat there.

I didn’t know the dynamics of this game of Second Life. This was the case for at least six months.

I would come in and walk around and then leave. I would come back two weeks later and do the same.

I didn’t get the game. The woman that brought me to the game had an attraction to me from the other site, but it was not reciprocated.

I then found a place where I could dance and I loved it, and wanted to stay longer with each visit.

Jalissa: I was on the computer and saw the advertisement bar on one side for Second Life and tried it...Advertising does pay.

Ava: How did you meet each other and can you tell the readers what it was about each other that drew you to become friends?

Nickle: I met Jalissa at GGLR (Greek Gold Lesbian Resort) where I was hosting.

Jalissa instant messaged me saying hello. She never stayed

anyone at first because I was very shy. It wasn’t the same thing as your avatar being told “hey your cute wanna have sex?” For me that was not what I was about.

Ava: For our readers who may not know a darn thing about the lesbian scene on Second Life could you both share and enlighten them?

Nickle: I can only speak for myself, but the scene for me is that I am strictly a lesbian,

too long, so it was always a brief hello, and poof she was gone. I was not inviting Jalissa over for any other reason than to be friends. I wasn’t in SL for any reason than to do my thing and dance. I was at another lesbian club also possessing and I invited Jalissa to come over. She came over to the club for a few minutes and in Jalissa’s way she was gone again.

Jalissa: I was by myself when I met Nickle the first time at GGLR. I wouldn’t talk to

so I tended to be drawn to lesbian clubs.

I don’t have anything against anyone else doing their thing, this was just my choice and something I enjoyed doing.

It also bothered me that if I did go to other clubs, a lot of the times the so called lesbians were really men. For me, going to a virtual world even though I had a female avatar and was a real lesbian looking for other real lesbians, I was not looking for men pretending to

be lesbians. This was very much a point of contention for me.

This is the main reason why at the beginning, I didn’t stay...

I didn’t know where to find others that I could relate to.

I could tell easily that it was a man in a female avatar by the way they talked to me using a lot of blatant disrespect and sexual innuendo, which was something that I picked up on right away. That wasn’t for me. Same goes for some of the lesbians that wanted to get to know me and would be forthright that it was sexual.

I am not against sex, but I am a woman that takes my time. If they didn’t get on Skype and speak to me they were fake.

Jalissa: It is much like it is in real life, for me it is no different than any relationship.

I think the changes that have happened for the gay and lesbian community, as people we have the same issues and struggles as anyone else.

Ava: Tell us something that annoys you about how you’re treated on Second Life as a lesbian – good and bad?

Nickle: I really don’t have any issues. I pretty much do what I want, go where I want, and

have fun doing it. I don’t let people stop me from being me.

Jalissa: There isn’t anything really. Just like with heterosexuals or anyone, you can get mean people, ugly people...no difference. I think it’s important for your readers to understand that my lifestyle and who I sleep with is my choice. But again all issues of life are the same for all people.

Ava: How did you hook up in SL? Nickle: After the initial meeting at GGLR and hanging out a few times, I asked Jalissa over to my sister’s studio. That is where I could always be found styling. I was styling for about five minutes and as Jalissa tells it, all of a sudden she heard the famous “Nickle Snore”. As most people close to Nickle know when she gets tired it’s a done deal. The more people around the easier it is for Nickle to nod off where we then hear the famous Nickle snore. This was the first time of many many and Jalissa then left after about another 10 minutes.

I invited Jalissa to my sister’s birthday party. Where she wasn’t fashionably late...she was just very very late. I was

hanging out dancing with her and we went up to a platform that my mom had done in the tree. We were talking and I asked Jalissa what she thought about a new avatar because frankly I hated her avatar.

I knew I could trust this woman with my all. There was a comfort level that I have never had with any other...

”

Jalissa: I think the best part for me with the Second Life hookup was that I always knew from day one that Nickle was for me. I even told her that she was going to marry me in Second Life, and of course Nickle would say, “Yea right! Ok...whatever you say.” Knowing that for her that was not happening.

Again so the readers understand the dynamics of Nickle and me, neither of us were on Second Life in any way shape or form for the sex. We didn’t even have sex on Second Life until we were married. Now understand that cuddles and dancing and even kissing were fine and you can think of us as old fashioned we don’t care. We do it our way always, and that applies to real life and Second Life.

Ava: Can you share with our readers the circumstances of how you met in real life?

Nickle: I got very sick and was rushed to the hospital. All of my closest friends knew that I had no choice but to go. My family on Second Life was not giving me a choice in the matter.

Jalissa: I had planned on going to see Nickle in real life in New Jersey, but when she got sick of course it was put on hold. I then

decided I was going from Boston and see her anyway. Nickle did not know that I made the decision to go ahead and go see her. I think for me knowing she was in the hospital and not in good shape. I just had to go to her bedside and be with her.

Ava: Nickle how long were you in the hospital after Jalissa got there?

Ava: Tell me about when you both first laid eyes on one another.

Jalissa: I felt that something was bigger than us both warranted me going back to Boston to pack things up and return to New Jersey, and that is exactly what I did.

Nickle: I kept saying she came, she came all the way from Boston for me. It was very special to me and of course made me think differently as far as trust, love all of it. I knew I could trust this woman with my all. There was a comfort level that I have never had with any other woman. I have always wanted that, and now I can say I have it.

Jalissa: I came on a train to New Jersey with one purpose and that was to make sure Nickle was ok.

She went through a lot medically and I could just not rest until I made sure. Nickle’s mom came and got me from the train station. When I first laid eyes on her in that hospital bed I said, “Hell no she doesn’t have boo boo puffs on the side of her head.” After her mom and family left, I told Nickle my thoughts and we both cracked up.

Nickle: I was in the hospital for a week. Jalissa stayed in a hotel, but for a few nights she stayed right in the hospital room with me.

That was in 2012. We have been partners, lovers and best friends ever since.

Ava: For our readers to know, Nickle and Jalissa did tie the knot as Jalissa predicted 12 months after they met. So for real life and for Second Life the true love story does exist. They also are the proud parents in Second Life of Nicklelas Andre North Sparrowtree who is almost three, and Reign Ava North Sparrowtree who is almost one year old.

It’s even more special for those who have found love in Second Life, brought their relationship to real life, and through all the obstacles, their love is stronger than ever.

This is the love story of DJ Tristain Savon and Britney Daines. Tristain is a popular DJ on SL, currently spinning tunes at Ambrosia Dance Club. A dad in real life, Tristain has a voice that excites a room like no other on SL. Britney, ‘a regular Canadian Jedi’ as she calls herself, is a career woman, a mom and a cutie patootie to boot. Although not on SL as much, they live a very active real life love story that started on SL. Tristain and Britney share their story with Diversity Magazine in this candid interview that sees them

open up about some of the realities they faced to be together.

Jena: Hello Tristain and Britney.

Thank you for doing this interview.

To start please tell our readers how you met, and was it love at first sight for both of you?

Tristain: We met through a mutual friend’s post on Facebook (SL). She was being sassy about me wearing crocs! I loved her sense of humor right from the start. I’m not sure love at first sight, but I won’t lie I thought she was beautiful from the very moment I laid eyes on her.

Jena: Britney, What challenges did you face dating a DJ with so many fans? [I’m only assuming here cause I’m one] Britney: Honestly there were not many challenges. Tris was very respectful and open from day one.

things. But honesty and trust made it very easy.

Jena: What did you see in each other that made you say “she’s/he’s the one”?

Tristain: Just how sassy she was. I love someone that can play back and give it back as hard as I ever give it.

Britney: His kindness and openness. Never having to fear he is hiding anything.

Jena: How long were you dating in SL before taking the relationship to real life, and what were some of the obstacles, if any?

Tristain: We dated for about one month. I know a lot of people feel you should date x amount of time before you meet, but honestly we didn’t want to waste each other’s time. We have both been in online relationships that go on for months only to fail. Or the other backs out after how much time you have invested. Once I knew we would

date in SL, I said I’ll be there next free weekend I have so we made it so!

Jena: Tell us a bit about your journey in real life that got you to where you are now.

Tristain: It’s not easy but if you love and care for someone it’s very worth it. You have to make that person your priority. Not have excuses why you can’t meet. Flights are cheap, so I never get people who need to save up for a year or so. Split the cost with each other.

That’s what we did. And we always had the next trip or a few trips planned before any trip ended.

Then there was no worry about when will I see you again.

Jena: What have each of you brought to the relationship that makes it so strong?

Tristain: Trust and communication.

And the willingness to be open about every part of our lives. If you have to hide anything, trust will be gone, and that’s a kill all for all

relationships. I don’t think you ever get that back if it’s ever lost, even once. So be real from Hello.

Jena: Can you share something quirky about yourselves that you love about each other.

Tristain: I am not sure we feel we are. We’re really just your average Joes. I can’t think of anything

By Sita Writer I had the honor of sitting down with June Monteiro, designer and owner of Jumo Fashion and Beauty, to learn more about the lady behind the Jumo brand.

June describes herself as a fashion designer experiencing a whole new world of opportunities. “I’m meeting amazing people and exploring a new fashion market” says June. “I tend always to be friendly and I expect others to extend the same courtesy.”

Jumo is a Brazilian company founded

by June and represents the best in fashion design with its inimitable combination of opulence, high artistry, contemporary glamor and sexiness.

June’s creations include mesh gowns, dresses and pantsuits for day and evening. You will also find a nice collection of shoes, jewelry, makeup and various accessories.

June has been a fashion designer in real life for over 20 years. She explains, “In my spare time I played games, but they did not have the quality I was looking for. I heard how superior Second Life

was, so I decided to try it and have never left.”

I asked June when and why she started creating. “I was creating clothes and accessories before entering Second Life, as I said, and started to create as soon as I could.” She added, “I was fascinated with all the possibilities of SL so it gave me more courage to learn and get started. I started with the basics only playing with textures, which of course got more sophisticated over time. SL challenges me to learn every day. In fact, I always had a love affair with the haute couture here in SL.” Jumo Fashion also includes a collection of jewelry that uses bold metals and stones to complement the clothing.

“I was always delighted when I saw the great creators making jewelry,” says June. “I felt wonderful as they manipulated the gold and precious stones. I began making simple pieces of jewelry still with great difficulty, but I never gave up. Over time my skills developed, and today I love being

involved with the jewelry industry… it’s a pure pleasure for me.”

Not many designers offer jewelry with their clothes. June explains, “I include jewelry with my outfits because I always liked to think on the whole, the complete outfit.

I asked June why she thinks people shop in her store and how does she want them to feel when wearing her clothes. “I believe that every woman is special. All are “Divas”, “Princesses”, “Heroines”, born to be. For some reason during their life they forgot that. My brand, my store is here to remind them of that.”

But of course SL business has it’s challenges and June is no stranger to that. “The challenges are many Sita, but I still deal with them.” She adds, “You need to master many

A real challenge, love it! This improves over the years when you begin to master these areas and can manage them better.

With that said, there is great satisfaction in running an SL business. I asked June about that and whether it has changed over the years. “In SL everything changes almost every day, that’s what’s amazing. It makes you learn more, makes you qualify more. The great

satisfaction that this business brings is the smile of your client saying that what you created was exactly what she wanted, and to know that she is happy with the product you made. You know that you somehow were part of someone’s joy.”

June tells us about her RL satisfaction in regards to creating in SL and how it has changed her RL. “When I started it was a hobby.

I worked at SL only in my spare time, but my business here was growing and taking shape. Today I have a team working with me and I am in SL almost full time. The RL satisfaction is starting a business from scratch and turning it into something real. I think this is one of the best experiences of my life.”

As June stated earlier, she works with a team, so I asked her what she looks for in staff, models, bloggers for her brand. “I need people who never give up, creative people who see life’s difficulties as challenges to be overcome.

We’ve learned that June is also a fashion designer in RL, but does she possess the same personality in RL as she does in Second Life. She smiles, “I’m the same person in RL and SL, doing the same job, nothing to hide. For most people SL is a game, a joke, something to pass the time. For me it is not. Second Life is my work. I want to learn more so that I can offer my customers the best product, the best quality, the best price. This is my goal.”

By Ahn Avion (Skintrader Greyskin) I had the delightful opportunity and privilege to interview Laura (arualblues), one of the managing gems at Zuri Jewelry while Zuri Rayna, the owner, was busy slaving away at new and wondrous creations!

Laura is very personable, and quite helpful in navigating around the rather large showcase that is three, yes THREE, floors of Zuri Jewelry.

Should you ever get the honor to meet Ms. Laura, don’t bring up the M&Ms! Ahn: Thank you so much for agreeing to this!

Laura: You’re welcome. I’ll do my best.

Ahn: Some of the questions may be a bit, well, off, but there are too many normal interviews out there.

Laura: Off? I’m curious now.

Ahn: I’ll start basic...does ZURI mean anything? As a word, I mean.

Laura: It does. It means beautiful.

Ahn: In what language?

Laura: It comes from Swahili, and it matches the beauty of her jewelry.

Ahn: It’s all SO PRETTY! Laura nods and adds, “The best, but hey, I’m hardly objective.”

Ahn: What song best describes your work ethic?

Laura: Oh...this is not an easy one from the top of my head. I may come up with something goofy like “We will Rock You” (because “ROCK” you, as in... jewelry has rocks?)

Absolutely! How would people communicate in a perfect world?

Laura: Hum...that sounds tricky. Several things come to my head, but they are all pretty much things we do. I believe the manner counts less than the intention.

I think it doesn’t matter that much the technique we use to communicate, as what we have to say and why.

Ahn: Very true. Zuri Jewelry is sponsoring L’Amour’s Mr. & Miss International Competition this year, as well as the upcoming Menstuff Hunt. What else Zuri is sponsoring?

Ahn: Nice! Do you have a favorite piece or collection from Zuri?

Laura: Oh boy...only one? Well, definitely our Elite collections, which are what could be called a “fatpack”. Our Elite jewelry comes with a menu that offers metalchanging, gem-changing, pearlchanging, etc. But a few come to my mind. The Ariel collections are delicate, beautiful, and extremely versatile. For classic pearls I would go for the Antique Pearls, that can be worn with casual, formal, semiformal...even RP. Ahn: Is there anything you’d like to see made that hasn’t yet been made by others in Second Life and

Laura: Oh, that I can certainly talk about! For the ladies, we recently released four major new collections: Vintage Pearls Elite Collection, Cameo Elite Collection, which also comes scripted for Open Collar, and a wonderful selection of engagement rings. The fourth is our latest release, Mystic Moon Elite.

That one has a beautiful fantasy air, and a seductive matching belly jewel.

For the gentlemen, we have new Gem changing bracelets with text “I Love You”. Some can be personalized, and our latest release is an elegant collection of cufflinks. Naturally, we are starting to go in the Valentine’s mood.

Ahn: Oh nice! Might have to look into that as a gift for my someone special!

Laura: Indeed! It will be our pleasure to show you around and model jewelry for you.

Ahn: Is your official title Manager?

Laura: Yes, but I’m not “the” manager. There are three of us, so we call ourselves “Management Team”.

Laura: Yes! Of course when I’m talking to someone it’s just easier to say “I’m Zuri’s Manager”, but if you want to go technically correct, management team would be it.

Ahn: That’s how I like to refer to Alex, Sangi, and I. Technically Alex is the manager and Sangi the assistant manager, but we’re the management team. Their roles are no less important than mine.

Laura: Exactly, that is our point as well.

Ahn: Thank you for your time.

Aprilsue So far my experience with MMI has been positive and enriching. My goal by entering was to seek feedback, whether positive or negative. Simply constructive feedback. So far, MMI has far exceeded my hopes. Not only am I getting wonderful feedback, but I’m making friends of the fellow models. Some I knew; some I didn’t. But I feel closer to all of them now.

I feel that MMI is the most fair and constructive competition on the grid.

And the hardest!

AriannaJasmine I decided to enter the MMI contest after hearing about what a great learning experience it was and how fairly it was run and judged with feedback sessions being delivered to the participants if they wished to take advantage of them. It sounded like a good contest for me to participate in with my limited experience and so I submitted my application.

We’ve had our initial walk as candidates wearing the outfits we took our first photos in. We’ve also had a styling challenge of “Baroque Avant Garde” with a walk and poses in front of the judges. I was really happy to see things were delivered as told to us with our first feedback meeting being held just a few days after we walked. As promised we received the judges scores and comments so we could use the information to improve our areas of weakness and capitalize on our strengths. We were told our exact scores and our placement so far in the competition. It’s great knowing where you need to improve and knowing exactly what the judges thought of your styling and walk, etc. Also, the competition is open to non models too and so help is given to those not used to dealing with pose HUDS, default poses, etc.

For me it’s been a pleasure to participate.

I’ve met some great people and had fun!

I’m thrilled that what was promised to us as candidates when we entered has been delivered in full so far. I would recommend anyone interested in competing in contests and pageants to give MMI 2017 a try!

Catalysis What can I say about my experience with the Mr. & Miss Model International competition so far? WOW! AMAZING! The challenges have been just that, challenging...to say the least.

For a new model like myself, it has really been a learning experience, pushing me to try new things and step way outside of my comfort zone. The staff, judges and other entrants have been absolutely wonderful. Everyone is so supportive it feels more like a class than a contest. Of course, I think we all want to win, or at the very least do well, but that hasn’t stopped everyone from helping each other in any way we can.

When I started modeling classes in October, I didn’t really think pageants would be ‘my thing’, but I have to admit I’m learning a lot, and making some great new friends along the way. It’s really changed my perception of what a pageant-type competition is, and can be.

After a lot of thought, I finally decided to enter the 2016 MMI Competition. Having just graduated from modeling school in October 2015, I figured I didn’t have a chance.

I had some recent successes that bolstered my confidence. I may not get far, but the experience I will gain will be invaluable.

With this being my first major competition, the experience so far has been very positive. My fellow contestants have been wonderful. Everyone has been kind, courteous, and helpful.

The staff and board of MMI are excellent.

They have been there every step of the way offering help and encouragement.

The communications has been perfect.

There is no doubt on when and where you are suppose to be and what is expected.

The best part so far are the feedback meetings, judges comments and mini seminars that have been put on by MMI. It has not been easy, but this competition has made me stretch and grow as a model, stylist, and photographer. Daneen Sands My experience with MMI, even though I have been sick through out most of it, so far has been awesome. It’s my first time that I have been chosen in any contest, (smiles) and even tho pageantry is not my first love in the fashion industry, it’s something that I have always wanted to experiences as model.

It has push me into more research, and has allowed me to think way out of the box, I have become much more attentive. I have also had the honor of meeting all the other amazing models. The journey so far has been amazing (smiles).

Laura18 Streeter I’ve never been on other pageants, mostly because I didn’t like what they are often plagued with: drama, politics, and unfairness.

With MMI I was inspired to give it a shot, and so far I’m happy with the way things are managed, by Ava and all the staff, which has made me feel like it’s a professional and competent environment, without prejudices or popularity contests.

I like the structure of the competition, its variety and its creativity. And I like that we are given feedback and a chance to comment or dispute it if we wish.

My experience in MMI 2016 has been, exhausting, challenging but most importantly FUN. This is my first competition as a model and I’m happy it is. I’ve learned so much about myself during this process. I’m very big on staying true to who I am, to be apart of a competition that stress that is wonderful. Yes the judges added their 2 cents. But in life everyone is going to judge and have something to say.

It comes down to you the individual. Once you know who you are the voices of others wouldn’t influence your drive.

It’s very easy to get lost in this modeling world with people tugging at you in every direction, wanting you to change your shape, skin, face, eyes, etc etc etc. In my opinion a successful model creates her own path, remaining true to her style, her vision, her personality, her character, staying true to Her. I think that’s what MMI is trying to teach many models – stick to who you are!

Selina Greycloud Basically the competition keeps you on your toes and the challenges really make you think.

I am still in the beginning stages but many contestants agree that they have to really get out of their comfort zones to make the best impression.

This competition allows you to be yourself but that in itself is a challenge if you are not used to having a contest focusing on who you really are. Imagine if you will that you are allowed to express exactly you and what you can do challenge after challenge. It is a true test and with the last winners on staff to help you, you always have helpful advice in case you have any questions.

Saori440 My experience at the MMI started by curiosity as I really love photography. When i saw the call I told myself why not try.

In the first meeting a new world was opening for me since this competition is a little bit different. Here you show who you are, styling, being yourself and show it to others. Thanks to that challenge by challenge I met very nice people with great talent, and we all had lots of fun together on the catwalk.

Trinity Aironaut I have been involved with several of Ava’s shows and some of her competitions. I have always felt that Ava takes good care of her models. She provides lots of opportunities for them.

The Final Link That Makes Model’s Workshop

By Ava Jhamin In Second life there are those that are and those that do. I sat down with one that does and does and is just one of the most incredible ladies I have had the pleasure to call friend, Jena Adder, a true entrepreneur in Second Life, who still manages to do it always her way.

Ava: How did you first find out about Second Life?

Jena: I learned about SL from a television show about people who found love in SL and all the obstacles they faced to be together in real life. This was maybe seven years ago. I was fascinated by some of the visuals they showed: the fantasy worlds, lush islands, mansions, yachts, and men with long black hair and tanned skin (chuckles). It looked like a place that many went to live their fantasy lives. I was intrigued, so I signed up.

Ava: Tell the Readers what you did when you first entered SL? Jena: When I finally logged on I really didn’t understand what was going on at first. Seemed like I was in an endless fall from the sky.

When I landed I was looking at my avatar from behind and wasted a lot of time figuring out how to see myself from the front. I was in a gawd awful pink polka-dot dress (yes THAT pink polka-dot dress), and there were billboards with ads everywhere.

I met a woman who wore a dress with the longest train I had ever seen. She was stunning. I was truly in awe and I wanted to be her. She gave me a bunch of landmarks and I went to a few of them, but quickly became disillusioned because I had no money to buy anything.

I met a man with gorgeous glowing blue eyes and long white hair.

Six months later I met a friend in another video game who was very versed in SL. He offered to take me back and show me a better SLife. And so with the help of my crazy partner in crime, who introduced me to some amazing SL mentors in a Welcome Area, I became hooked, especially to the world of SL fashion. I was given a complete makeover.

Jena: On my down time I shop, take photos, experiment with different looks, and shop (wait I said that LOL). I do prefer lately to spend my free time in real life.

Seems my social butterfly days on SL are over (sigh).

Ava: How did you come to Model’s Workshop?

Jena: I started attending events at Model’s Workshop after completing my training at Antonia Muggins and L.A. Modeling in 2009. A friend invited me to one of the workshops and I never left. I learned quite a lot from these events...probably more than I had at modeling school.

I owe a lot to the people who graced the stages at MW over the years. I don’t know if they understand the impact they had on me as a new model...even to this day (smiles).

In 2013 Monica Balut, MW Founder, approached me to run the Fashion Show Committee.

Soon after Monica retired and made Suki Rexen CEO and Owner of MW. Suki asked me to be her Chief Operations Officer, and that dynamic has been in place for almost three years.

Ava: I know that something wonderful happened to you recently with MW. Can you fill our readers in on that Jena?

Oh yes! Monica and Suki made me Co-owner of Model’s Workshop

in December last year. It was announced at our Holiday Party.

What an amazing gesture, and I hope to exceed their expectations as we continue the work that Monica started.

Ava: Jena what do you do for Model’s Workshop?

Jena: In addition to becoming a Co-owner, I’m still also the COO at MW. So I implement and oversee the programs we run with a team of Committee Chairs who manage their own staff to run the Committee programs: Workshops, Styling Challenges, Fashion Shows and Social Activities. It’s a system that seems to work well when we have the right people in place, but also one that has had its obstacles.

I’m fortunate to work in an industry where others are happy to help when they can – people who give back so generously.

I rely on the expertise of each Chair, so I give them the freedom to run things their way, with the occasional nudge from me to keep things on track. Flexibility is important so that Chairs can work around their SL and RL schedules.

grow is key to the success of our staff and programs at MW. Amity Sorbet, the current Chair of Styling Challenges, is instrumental in the success of our inworld and Photo Styling Challenges. The monthly Styling Challenges provide a stage for those who want to showcase and improve their styling abilities. Participants are judged by professionals in the fashion industry, and each of them is given feedback by members of the audience. This not only exposes them to constructive criticism, but it also helps them learn how to use this feedback in positive ways to improve.

MW is also committed to ensuring models are seen in print, and to facilitate that we hold regular Photo Styling Challenges where models style to theme, take a photo and post them on our Flickr Group. See December’s Photo Contest winner OnlyGenesis on the following pages.

Sabine Mortenwold, our newest Chair, runs MW’s monthly chat sessions. These casual discussions allow models to share their experiences in all areas of fashion.

Ava: Where do you see Model’s Workshop in the next few years?

Jena: Well five years is a long time, so I’ll tell you about our short-term plans. In 2016 we’re focused on delivering more Workshops­– the backbone of MW. In keeping with the styling theme, we recently launched a series of workshops covering many areas of styling, including different ways to style a dress, color theories and color blocking, with more to come.

Our longer term plans include a push to get the MW info board in as many modeling academies as possible. We are after all their partner not their competitor, and we hope to continue to work side by side with schools to ensure models are getting the help and resources they need to succeed in the fashion industry.

immediate answers by others with similar experiences. We welcome all schools, designers, models and business owners who want to share, learn and grow with us.

Ava: Where do you see the modeling industry on a whole in the next five years Jena?

Jena: In all honesty I hope to be on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean rubbing sunscreen on myself and screaming for hubby to take the house keys out of his pocket before going in the water...and laughs when he does it anyway.

But seriously my hope for modeling on SL is that technology will advance to where there will be no lag...anywhere.

We will have one avatar (with no mesh parts) and endless customization options. Land will be much more affordable...and the big one: water actually makes you appear wet (imagine the possibilities there (giggles!).

Ava: If you could give advice to someone wanting to be part of MW what would that be?

Jena: Simple! Join the Model’s Workshop group, participate in and attend our events, don’t be afraid to ask a stupid question in our Group Chat, and volunteer at MW to get exposure and experience.

Ava: If you could give advice to all upcoming models on SL, what would that be Jena?

Jena: You sure you wanna go there, Ava? LOL! OK then...leave your ego at the door when on a job. Excellent styling is key to a successful modeling career, so work harder on that. Go to school to learn the basic runway and other modeling techniques, and go out there and cast as often as you can. Start a blog, Flickr and Facebook account to broaden your exposure. Don’t be rude to anyone you work with and for. If you are, the only thing they’ll remember about you is that you were rude (not good). Be professional at all times on a job, including showing up on time, and don’t over book yourself.

Stop venting on social media – express yourself but tactfully. Have a hobby so that when modeling makes you mad, you have something that makes you glad (sry for rhyming...sry for saying sry...Ugh! I’m such a Canadian).

Cherish your friendships – they truly are the things that will keep you sane and grounded. Gossip hurts and can ruin relationships, so get the facts before passing judgment based on someone else’s statement.

Most importantly, don’t sacrifice your real life for what you may perceive as ‘success’ on Second Life. Take care of

your health and your loved ones. Don’t neglect your real life friends. When you stop calling them because you’re too busy on SL, you lose out on important social interaction that could possibly save your life.

Can you leave our readers with one thing that they may not know about you?

Jena: As much as I love modeling, I get the most satisfaction producing fashion shows on SL. I did that for three years at Runway Café with an amazing woman named Alix Abruzzo. To this day Alix remains a close friend and a solid foundation in my SLife. I learned everything about fashion from behind the scenes, and I learned some very important business and life skills from people like Alix.

As I write this I think earnestly of my experiences creating fashion shows, and I’m sure those I worked with will agree that four/five years ago, modeling was one of the most exciting things to be

Role Play

Oasis of Two Scimitars Where Gor Comes to Life

By Ahn Avion, Photos by Alex Avion Gor. A fictional planet that rotates on the opposite side of the sun, also called counter-earth. There are currently 33 books of Gor, written

by John Norman, with book #34 due out in August 2016. The first book, Tarnsmen of Gor, was written in 1966. The customs, terminology and imagery depicted in these books inspired a Gorean subculture, with lifestyle adherents online and off.

Second Life is one of many social mediums that accepts Gorean role play. Type in the word ‘Gor’ in search and the listings of Gor sims and stores/designers that cater to Gorean clientele number in the hundreds. For some it’s a lifestyle, for others it’s role play, and for others still it is a way to profit from a small yet strong niche market.

I have been an avid roleplayer in Gor, on and off, for about 20 years now. I started out when Gor was only a text based notion in mediums like PowWow, mIRC, Yahoo!, and Filetopia. Almost 10 years ago,

I followed a friend to Second Life to see Gor come to life in the form of actual buildings and lands, Masters, Mistresses, and slaves. A lot has changed in SL in the last 10 years, and Gor has changed with it; not the ideas or social constructs, but the representation of the Gorean home world itself.

Alex and I recently had an opportunity to visit one of the longest running Gor sims on SL Oasis of Two Scimitars. It is often referred to as gay Gor, but do not let the label dissuade you. Oasis of Two Scimitars, or Scimitar as the locals call it, welcomes all that wish to visit. Though most of the population is gay, there are straight players as well. Scimitar uses the GM (Gorean Meter), but can be set to OOC (Out of Character) if your intention is to only visit. Everyone we ran into was very accommodating in allowing us to move about even as they roleplayed.

Ander Galthie, owner of Galthie Designs, worked for about three months with his boy Phoenix to completely rebuild the once proud tent city.

I mention the tombs only because of the idea behind them. Goreans were burned after death and not buried, much like the ancient Vikings. When asked about the tombs, Ander replied, “The tombs actually only have two caskets; one’s empty the other’s a memorial to Perry [the previous owner of Scimitar], who died in the sandstorm. The rest of it is for urns to hold ashes. It houses memorials to actual players that have died in RL and made some lasting contribution to Scimitar.

We thought it was a good way to memorialize people, and add a place to house the IC [in character] remains of dead characters.”

We met up with Ander Galthie and his boy, Phoenix, the builders of the current version of Scimitar.

The current owner, Strada Tyran, took ownership of Scimitar about two years ago and asked Ander to completely rebuild the once proud city. Ander, owner of Galthie Designs, worked about three months with Phoenix on the city before moving it to ground level, replacing the temporary tent city. The role play established a great sand storm that destroyed the old city and the inhabitants lived in the desert during its reconstruction. He and Phoenix are currently reworking the tunnel system which leads to a new bath house and tombs.

One of the first sites upon visiting the city is the main square where most of the high caste buildings can be seen. There are five high castes: Initiates, Scribes, Builders, Physicians, and Warriors, and all five castes are represented in role play. While there are a LOT of Gorean role play sims, not many can boast having the Initiate caste represented. Scimitar also has a wide variety of low caste roles.

“We have merchants of course and slavers, blacksmiths, a brewer, a seamstress, baker, butcher, a paga den keeper,” Ander added.

Those that are familiar with Gorean sims know that the typical lifespan can run anywhere from

a few months to perhaps a year before dying off due to a lack of interest. Rarely is a sim found to be older than two years at best, but Scimitar has beaten those odds by a long shot.

“I think because the people here care. There’s a core of roleplayers here that have been roleplaying here for five to six years, and partly because Strada and Perry before him both think it’s important to let the Gorean caste system rp actually happen. For that to work there has to be a head of caste.

Even the lower castes have some organization,” says Ander.

“Scimitar is a place to get away from the norms of Second Life...the clubs, shops, beaches. Most everyone here is pretty chill and want to just have a good time. For me, I feel like it

has been more of a creative outlet... not just with the roleplay but I’ve been able to help Ander create this city,” adds Phoenix. Phoenix textures all that Ander builds. Beyond their online roles of Master and slave, they are a strong team of creativity.

The name of the city comes straight from Tribesmen of Gor, book #10 of the series. It is an established city in the desert situated on an oasis and bed by wells. Because the city is supposed to be isolated, they have surrounded the sim with desert landscaping to lend a sense of desolation.

When asked about imports and exports for the isolated city, Ander replied, “Well Scimitar in Gor is slightly different from Scimitar in the books. We do have a darker and grittier side, the underworld

so to speak. Smugglers, bandits, etc., but we also have a more upstanding community of respectable sorts. There’s a large merchant population here. They sort of manage the exports and the imports. We export golden salt, Ubar’s blend sa paga, veminium oil, telekint dye, date wine and olives. Then finished goods such as rugs, glasswares weapons and so on. I think the core values so to speak are still the same. The city may have changed hands but the people in charge want to respect the past while looking forward to its future.”

As Alex and I continued to wander the city with Ander and Phoenix as our guides, we had the pleasure of running into Strada Tyran, the owner of Scimitar, and his boy, Dashi. One of the things I asked Strada was what changes he had made from the previous owner.

“We have tightened the reins, so to speak, on role play. We offer a tremendous amount of training to both free and slaves on how to be and act Gorean...from everyday life to battle situations,” he said.

Scimitar is raided about four or five times a week according to Strada, giving everyone within the city a chance to play their parts from the warriors and warrior slaves set to defend the city, the physicians to help the wounded, and the remaining Free and slaves to run, to fight, to protect, and

even to be captured as prisoners to be ransomed or made into or sold off as slaves. That being said, it is important to note that ALL role play in Scimitar is consensual.

No one is forced to partake in any scene s/he is uncomfortable playing.

“Kalana Woods is our most frequent raider. But also Noob Alliance, Bloodfire, Invictus, Dark Sword Outlaws...to name a few. We are currently working on some conflict role play with Casmu as well,” Strada added. As of 1/17/16, Scimitar has a total of 156 active players throughout the day and evening depending on time zones.

“That’s pretty active. We remove people from the group after a month of absence. So, all those were active within 30 days. Of course, with different time zones, people are here at different times, but we tend to range about 15 to low 20’s on sim at a time.”

Strada also mentioned wanting to get another sim. “I would like to add another sim at some point.

The old city had Scimitar Plains.

And I would like to put my spa back and have more open space as well.” If Dashi has his way, the new sim would include a menagerie complete with a sleen (think rabid alligator with six legs, two rows of teeth, 20 feet long, and averaging about 1,300 pounds).

I asked the same question of Dashi that I had asked Phoenix earlier, about what he enjoyed

about Scimitar. “Well, you got the main point already. But this is a good city for slaves, I think.

We have a great training scheme, which is really helpful if you have no real knowledge of Gor. And slaves are equally included in the rp here, which you don’t always find on other Gorean sims,” he replied. “We are like all sims, there is bickering and fall outs. But in general, I have found that the slaves here are very supportive of each other. For example, one boy held a dance class recently. Many of the slaves who went can dance very well already, but we support each other like that. And most are very willing to help new slaves.”

Alex and I finished the evening visiting the market place, tavern, tea house, and brothel. Even if you aren’t a roleplayer, the city is worth the visit just to enjoy the attention to detail and grand scheme of the build. Like any artist, Ander will never consider the city build to be ‘done’, but don’t let that deter you. What can be seen is impressive and worth the time for a look see. n

Whose Life Is It Anyway

By Ava Jhamin If there are a few things I have learned on Second Life, it’s what is right and wrong in my opinion about telling others what they should or should not do with their avatar. This subject is one that is open for debate since the beginning of SL time.

Here is my take on it. This isn’t up for debate as it is my opinion and you can take and do with it as you deem necessary. I have always

been who I wanted to be in SL. I am not here to please or look any way for any other avatar on SL. If someone doesn’t like it well that is on them. I remember way back when I would go on castings (again remember what I was taught, was to be true to me), only to be told you’re too thick, your breasts and ass are large. You’re too pretty, blah, blah, blah. I would kindly say thank you for your time and move it right on down the road.

If I am asked by a model, or by just a regular Joe on the grid to do a new shape/look, I do it for them not what I think they should be, but what they want to be. I will always have it in my head to make them a better version of what is in their head on who they wish to portray.

So for me when anyone says, “Ava you should do this or that.” I will for the most part listen, say thank you and be done with it. I would look like a pretty bad hypocrite if I didn’t stand by what I teach and that is be true to you no matter what, and if they don’t like it, again you move it down the road.

Now if a designer were to ask, “Ava would you be willing to wear this black skin for this show?” That for me is a no brainer…of course I would. But for anyone to think that what they think on how I should look matters...”THINK AGAIN.” I also notice another big trend in Second Life that drives me batty: something new comes out (e.g. Slink hands and feet which I love), everyone runs to go get them. I don’t and never have.

Always there are issues and glitches and I would rather wait until those are fixed and then go out and get them. Again for me that is no one else’s business but mine.

If you want a mesh body, great you have fun with that, but don’t think for a second that I am any less for not doing, or that someone that doesn’t isn’t with the times. It is a matter of taste and it is a matter of CHOICE and that my friends is the choice of the person not the person who thinks in the shallow recesses of there mind that it has to be. n
