Sibel Kantola

Sibel Kantola (b.1978 in Turkey) is Kaarina / Finland based visual artist. She has received her B.A. from University of Louisville in Graphic Design and minor in French in 1999. At the moment her art studio is located at the Mökki Galleria where she also works as gallerist. Her works are heavily influenced by colours, animals, imaginary worlds and also nature related lifeforms... She is specialised in colourful illustrations and paintings with mysterious stories and atmospheres. She also creates illustrations of the actual existing places, or detail works of animals and any nature related subjects. Beside of her large amount of artworks, she has illustrated 4 children’s books and recently 1 poetry book with the collaboration of various writers. Kantola's inspiration is born from unexpected moments and things. She is familiar with diverse media techniques in painting. Most of her works are acrylic based paintings. During her 3 years of stay in South Korea, she has developed recycled art by using abandoned / found objects. At the moment recycled art concept is coming back later, but she is mostly focused on cute animals. Cute animals´ idea was born during the corona lock down. She has been painting only cute animals since. Her biggest intention is to create the care and the ease through these cute animals.

KEKE Leppälä

Skateboarder since 1985, professional photographer since 2016, KEKE has been shooting photos since he was a kid. However, skateboard injuries forced him to grab the camera and start shooting photos instead of skating himself at Copenhagen Skatepark while he was living in Denmark. He then co-founded Copenhagen-based magazine "One Love" and from there it just evolved. The love for skateboarding will never go away. Impressive lighting, combination of visual lines & clean backgrounds with unexpected angles, and sceneries, are some of Keke's trademarks. He loves to show the whole scene, the entire story in one frame – and also to put some extra effort into making the photos happen by behind the scenes organizing and preparations. In addition, on-site inspiration and improvisation also play a big role while shooting live action and can lead to new angles from roof tops, strangers’ balconies, lampposts etc. Keke’s photos have been published in Finnish and international skateboard magazines and displayed in exhibitions in Finland, Denmark, and the USA – 17 exhibitions of which 8 solo exhibitions. He has also done other photo collaborations with skateboard and snowboard brands. Independent photography artist with Passion, Love and Dedication.

Skateur depuis 1985, photographe professionnel depuis 2016. KEKE photographie depuis tout jeune, mais des blessures lors de la pratique du skate l’ont incité à saisir son appareil photo pour prendre des clichés au Skatepark de Copenhague lors de ses onze années passées au Danemark. Il a alors cofondé le magazine One Love, basé à Copenhague, et c’est de là que tout est parti. L’amour du skate ne disparaîtra jamais. Des éclairages impressionnants, la combinaison de lignes visuelles et d’arrière-plans épurés avec des angles inattendus ainsi que les décors sont quelques-unes des marques de fabrique de Keke. Il aime montrer toute la scène, toute l’histoire dans un seul cadre – et aussi se décarcasser pour que les photos se réalisent par une organisation et des préparatifs en coulisses. En outre, l’inspiration et l’improvisation sur place jouent un rôle déterminant lors de la prise de vue en direct et peuvent conduire à de

nouveaux angles depuis les toits, les balcons d’inconnus, les lampadaires, etc. Les photos de Keke ont été publiées dans des magazines de skate finlandais et internationaux et présentées dans des expositions en Finlande, au Danemark et aux États-Unis – 17 expositions dont 8 en solo. Il a également réalisé d’autres collaborations en matière de photographie avec des marques de skateboard et de snowboard. Artiste photographe indépendant animé par la passion, l’amour et le dévouement.

Anne Kuntsi

For me, the foundation of my art is silence and presence, where the impulses for my work occur. My art is never pre-planned, nor am I striving for a predetermined goal, it is about giving up and opening up. During my work, I try to watch, listen to and to have a dialogue with the piece until the stories and characters begin to guide me intuitively, sometimes abstractly, sometimes expressively. I try to keep a childlike curiosity and openness while working. At my best, I act as a bridge between the invisible and the visible world. I am also a passionate photographer, who has held photo exhibitions. Previously, while working in the textile industry and as a makeup artist, colours have always been, and still is, close to my heart. My art is shown in numerous private homes, on public premises of various businesses and also on book covers. I have held 19 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous joint exhibitions.

Pour moi, la base du travail avec les images est le silence et la présence, à par:r de laquelle l'impulsion part de l'intérieur de moi. Faire n'est pas pour moi un travail planifié, un travail prédéterminé ou je m'efforce d'a8eindre un objec:f, mais renoncer à la connaissance et le savoir et se laisser ouvrir. Faire c'est aussi voir, écouter et dialoguer avec l'ouvrage jusqu'à ce que les personnages et les histoires commencent à me guider intui:vement. Parfois abstraitement, parfois figura:vement. J'essaie de garder une curiosité enfan:ne et une ouverture d'esprit tout en travaillant. Au mieux, je travaille comme un bâ:sseur de ponts entre le monde visible et invisible. Ayant travaillé dans l'industrie tex:le et comme maquilleuse, les couleurs m'ont toujours tenu à cœur. Mes œuvres se trouvent dans de nombreuses propriétés privées et dans les espaces publics des entreprises ainsi qu'en couvertures des livres. J'ai eu 19 exposi:ons personnelles et j'ai aussi par:cipé à de nombreuses exposi:ons collec:ves. Je suis également une photographe passionnée et j'ai organisé des exposi:ons de photos.

Lasse Kempas

The starting point for these works of mine are thin mahogany plywood sheets, between which the watercolors exhibited in my exhibitions in Tokyo and Yamagata in 1980 were returned to Finland. Those plywood sheets were so beautiful with their wonderful Japanese writing that I didn't bother to throw them away. I kept them in a stack at the back of my studio for over 40 years. When I received an invitation to participate in the AVA ART Biennale in Osaka at the beginning of the year, I remembered those plywood sheets. I sawed them into smaller pieces so that the Japanese texts remained visible. Then I painted melting snow on them with acrylic colors and made my own "poetry rhymes" with gold leaf next to the Japanese texts. They looked very poetic together. Then I went to a Japanese restaurant in my hometown Rauma to ask the chef what could be read in the beautiful texts made in Japanese letters. They read ART SENDING in capital letters. Gallery Ginza Sanbangai Tokyo and its address were written in smaller text. So quite a prosaic poem. Hopefully, however, the snow will melt on a symbolic level in the hearts of people in Japan, France, and Finland as well. www.kempas.fi

Mervi Sani

Mervi Sani (born in 1953) is a Finnish artist. She paints abstract pictures which often arise from her surroundings or from her inner emotions. The colors and the shapes guide viewer into different spaces, lights and shadows. Artwork starts to live a life of its own where words don't exist Viewer can stand between the two worlds, step into the painting and feel the emotions it arouses. Her paintings have been exhibited in many galleries across Finland. Mervi Sani's artwork is being owned by corporate and private collections.

Tarja Sirkiä

When asked where the subjects for my paintings come from, there is no simple answer, they come. Sometimes easily and as if by itself, sometimes by coaxing, sometimes the hand and the brush just print the picture and the story on the canvas. I am also a photographer by training and I photograph a lot of landscapes, people, moods, buildings and details. Parts of my photos are also transferred to the canvas, sometimes only a specific part, sometimes an atmosphere or a detail In my visual art, I strive for harmony, balance and simplicity, and to tell a story and bring out the essence of the matter. In my visual art, I try to explain and structure ideas and moods for myself as well. While painting, my restless soul calms down and concentrates, I find a balance within myself, which I want to convey to the viewer through them.

Lorsqu'on me demande d'où viennent les sujets de mes peintures, il n'y a pas de réponse simple, ils viennent. Parfois facilement et comme par lui-même, parfois en cajolant, parfois la main et le pinceau impriment simplement l'image et l'histoire sur la toile. Je suis également photographe de formation et je photographie beaucoup de paysages, de personnes, d'ambiances, de bâtiments et de détails. Des parties de mes photos sont également transférées sur la toile, parfois seulement une partie précise, parfois une ambiance ou un détail Dans mon art visuel, je recherche l'harmonie, l'équilibre et la simplicité, et de raconter une histoire et de faire ressortir l'essence de la matière. Dans mon art visuel, j'essaie d'expliquer et de structurer des idées et des humeurs pour moi aussi. En peignant, mon âme agitée se calme et se concentre, je trouve un équilibre en moi-même, que je veux transmettre au spectateur à travers eux.

Jasmi Ritola

Jasmi Ritola is a Finland based artist, born in 1991. Her paintings aspire to capture her observations of people in their concurring emotions. Recurring themes on the artist's canvas include portraits, femininity and peaceful landscapes of her hometown Helsinki. Her work has been influenced by painters like Helene Schjerfbeck and Elaine de Kooning, but also from her background in animation. Recent oil paintings are characterised by a combination of earthy and blue hues, brushed with tender strokes that give a dreamlike impression. The summer 2022 offered the Artist solitude that had been missing from her life for a while. Throughout this period, she had time to explore her feelings about painting. This period led her into a more subtle and tender direction. The paintings exhibited in Carrousel du Louvre are portraits of instants, when hope replaced despair. The time spent in pandemic has been demanding, but it has also enabled one to find joy in small things.

Jasmi Ritola est une artiste finlandaise, née en 1991. Ses peintures ont pour dessein de capturer son observation des gens et de leur emotions. Ses thèmes de prédilection sont les portraits, la féminité, ainsi que les sereins paysages de Helsinki, sa ville natale. Parmi ses influences, les œuvres de Helene Schjerfbeck et Elaine de Kooning, mais aussi son parcours dans le cinéma d'animation. L'été 2022 lui offrit une solitude nécéssaire, qui lui manquait dans sa vie. Cela se voit dans ses récentes peintures à l'huile, caractérisées par une combinaison de teintes bleutées et terreuses, à la touche tendre, renforçant ainsi leur aspect onirique. C'est en prenant le temps d'explorer son ressenti envers la peinture qu'elle s'orienta dans une direction plus douce et subtile. Les toiles présentées au Carrousel du Louvre sont des captures d'instants, lorsque le désespoir fait place à l'espoir; bien que le temps passé durant la pandémie fut difficile, il permit l'éloge des choses simples de la vie.

Bogdan Lupu

Bogdan Lupu is a Finnish based, Italian – Romanian self-taught artist and brand, inspired by the greatest minds of humanity, philosophy, symbolism, hip-hop culture, and street style. Lupu started to paint full-time in the end of 2017, when he moved in the heart of Helsinki city, into a 30 square meters studio flat. He considers himself an intuitive expressionist painter, 360 degrees influenced. Lupu offers an exclusive dynamic combination of styles, methods, materials, and concepts. "Art doesn't have a proper rule. It is a trio of vision, purpose, and prosperity. What is real will prosper, it is just emotionally pure! Everything that captures my attention makes an appearance in my art!" Lupu experimented the mixed media in many different ways, reaching out a great versatility in the field, making over 300 art works. He mostly paints on self-stretched, linen and cotton canvases and his favourite media are the oil sticks, acrylics and spray painting. In September 2020, Lupu achieved his dream to work and manage a painting studio in the heart of the Helsinki where he's constantly working.

Bogdan Lupu est un artiste autodidacte Italo-Roumain basé en Finlande. Inspirée par les plus grandes personnalités de l'humanité, par la philosophie, le symbolisme, la culture hip hop et le street style. Lupu a commencé à produire ses œuvres à la fin de l'année 2017, quand il s'est installé au cœur de la ville d'Helsinki, dans un studio de 30 mètres carrés. Il se considère comme un artiste expressionniste et intuitif, influencé par le monde de l'Art à 360 degrés. Lupu présente un mélange de styles exclusifs et dynamiques, en utilisant différentes méthodes, matériaux et concepts. « Le monde de l'Art n'a pas de règles. C'est un trio de visions, objectifs et prospérité. Ce qui est réel portera ses fruits, c'est purement de l'émotion. Ce qui capture mon attention, apparaîtra dans mes œuvres! » Lupu expérimente un mélange de techniques et de plusieurs moyens, pour atteindre une grande variété dans son style, ayant produit plus de 300 œuvres depuis son début. Il peint principalement sur des toiles en lin et en coton et ses outils préféré sont les huiles en bâton, l'acrylique et les bombes de peinture. En septembre 2020, Lupu a réalisé son rêve de travailler et gérer son propre atelier au centre d'Helsinki, où il continue de créer des œuvres sans cesse.

Helena Kuulkers

I am Dutch, but I lived in many countries. Oil is my favourite tool, although sometimes I like to expand painting with charcoal as well as combining oil with chalk or coloured pencils. I am fascinated by faces and African masks, and therefore like to paint portraits. Unfortunately, my vision has started to decline during the last 10 years. But my brain has learned to adapt to the different levels of ambient light. I've found, I can keep painting, it is just a continuation of my painting experience!

Je suis néerlandais, mais j'ai vécu dans de nombreux pays. L'huile est mon outil préféré, même si parfois j'aime m'étendre à la peinture au fusain et combiner l'huile avec de la craie ou des crayons de couleur. Je suis fasciné par les visages et les masques africains, et j'aime donc peindre des portraits. Malheureusement, ma vision a commencé à décliner au cours des 10 dernières années. Mais mon cerveau a appris à s'adapter aux différents niveaux de lumière ambiante. J'ai trouvé, je peux continuer à peindre, c'est juste une continuation de mon expérience de peinture!

My most important tool is the “treasure trove" layered on the secret files of my mind. " I feel it`s my job, when I'm thinking of the part of human being and the mystery of living, to touch, incite association and raise questions. The space of the work is a place "somewhere else", a free, neutral field, the atmosphere of which must have squeaked a little, and where both the author and the viewer are allowed to sink into themselves and deep-scanned inside themselves. You don't have to analyze the picture, but you should be able to build from it. I hope my pictures open slowly but rewardingly. They could be described as pictorial equations, for which there are as many solutions as there are spectators. The main theme is man, a selfdetached or almost intellectual fellow traveler who is striving for something and arriving at the same time. Often there is an aspiration from darkness towards light, from cramped to wide or vice versa. I don't want to tie up the art mission to politics, religion, therapy, not any program, but it should have an effect as if you could suddenly fly.

Matti Paatelainen

I Matti Paatelainen was born 13.7.1947 Helsinki, over the past few years I have started to pay attention to the patterns of nature that I have followed. I have noticed that there are the most diverse patterns and images everywhere. When you look at the clouds, at first, they look like an ordinary mass, but then you will notice in them various patterns from animals, fish all the way to human figures. Also, the use of trees, etc. shadows form patterns and they too change as the sun's light changes its place. Water waves in lakes, seas, rivers, streams, etc. do the same, depending on wind and water flows. The flying of birds in the sky and the movement of other animals is also a joy to watch when you see them. I have also painted nude models and still lifes when I was young in the Visual Arts Circle of the House of Culture in Helsinki, which has served as my main art school.

I Matti Paatelainen, né le 13.7.1947, à Helsinki, au cours des dernières années, j’ai commencé à prêter attention aux modèles de la nature que j’ai suivis. J’ai remarqué qu’il y a les motifs et les images les plus divers partout. Lorsque vous regardez les nuages, au début, ils ressemblent à une masse ordinaire, mais vous remarquerez ensuite divers motifs allant des animaux, des poissons jusqu’aux figures humaines. En outre, l’utilisation d’arbres, etc. les ombres forment des motifs et elles changent aussi à mesure que la lumière du soleil change de place. Vagues d’eau dans les lacs, les mers, les rivières, les ruisseaux, etc. faire de même, en fonction des courants de vent et d’eau, Le vol des oiseaux dans le ciel et le mouvement des autres animaux est également une joie à regarder quand vous les voyez. J’ai également peint des modèles nus et des natures mortes quand j’étais jeune dans le Cercle des arts visuels de la Maison de la culture à Helsinki, qui a servi de principale école d’art.

I started in Sipoo civic college with Heli Maristo's courses in living model, carbon works 1995 two semesters. In 2005 I spent ½ year at the Sipoo civic college under Carin Bengts' teaching.Studied under Sirkka Tapio at Sipoo civic college 2010-13 Studied under Niles Haukeland at Sipoo civic college 2014-19 Teaching based on the pedagogy of Iljan Rep, born in Ukraine, in the courses of the Repin institute. Studied under Paul Laanen 2018–2022 May.AlfaArt painter in training for 2 years, 2020–2022. Exhibitions at the civic college every spring at group exhibition. Evening After Two Weeks In Paris, pigment on canvas, 80x80cm, 2022

I am a Finnish artist. I sit on the moss carpet and enjoy the silence while the world is in a stage of turmoil. The magic of the forest makes me calm down and as a tribute to it, I am painting animals and nature and make them visible in my work. Painting is my passion and everything else disappears when I paint. When I make art, I find freedom to take myself on a journey to something unknown and I enjoy those discoveries and experiences. I mostly paint acrylic, oil, and dry pigment works. I consider myself an atmospheric painter and through that I strive to affect. I have participated in exhibitions in Finland, Germany, and Brazil. I show interest in life, and it helps me to discover new ideas. Furthermore, I have taken part in many visual arts and sculpture educations and via them sought understanding of art in order to become better. Art is a path of continuity, and I will never be done on this journey.

Je suis une artiste finlandaise À côté du rugissement du reste du monde, je m'assieds sur une touffe de mousse et profite du silence. La magie de la forêt me calme, et en hommage à elle, je veux peindre ses animaux et la nature et les rendre visibles dans mon travail. La peinture est ma passion et quand je peins, tout le reste disparaît. Lorsque je fais de l'art, je ressens une grande liberté pour m'emmener dans un voyage vers quelque chose d'inconnu et profiter des découvertes et des expériences que je vis. Je peins principalement à l'acrylique, à l'huile et aux pigments secs. Je me considère comme un peintre d'ambiance et à travers cela je veux toucher les autres. J'ai participé à des expositions en Finlande, en Allemagne et au Brésil. Mon intérêt pour la vie m'aide à explorer et à découvrir de nouvelles choses et j'ai assisté à de nombreux cours de l'art plastique et de la sculpture et j'ai cherché à améliorer ma compréhension pour ainsi devenir meilleure. L'art est un chemin infini de développement et je n'ai pas l'impression d'avoir fini ce voyage.

Seppo Kari was born in Seinäjoki, a city in western Finland, where he works from his studio. Home to unique architecture, including that of the famous Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto, Seinäjoki is a point of inspiration for Kari, who began his graphic design career in 1964, and, by the late 60`s, had embarked on his own artistic path. Working from a surrealist perspective, Kari`s paintings have the feeling of a large series, by sharing various motifs: checkerboard floors, floating sunshade umbrellas, and partially completed female figures are prominently featured in his work. Common too are Renaissance-inspired figures that appear in his paintings as faux collage clippings, floating above the simulated levels and textures, pristine and untouched, bright and eye-arresting. Kari`s techniques are oil, acrylic and crayon, in graphic art serigraphy and digital. The method of working is very often structural. Shadows are used to create lightness, shape, and illusion. The paintings are disconnected from reality, although they include parts of reality loaded with symbolism and images. He likes to paint nocturnal topics. Maybe it can simply be said that he paints” the black light” because it is transparent. The night is not gloomy, but it is a distinctive world which you cannot see and reach in the daylight. However, the day breaks on his studies on nature. Daylight reveals the vulnerable nature with amazing powers.

Seppo Kari est né à Seinäjoki, une ville dans l'Ouest de la Finlande, où il travaille dans sa maisonatelier qu’il a construite lui-même. Seinäjoki compte nombre de bâtiments de l'architecte finlandais Alvar Aalto, et ces constructions ont été une source d’inspiration pour Kari. Il a commencé sa carrière de designer graphique en 1964. À la fin des années soixante, il a aussi entamé sa carrière d’artiste. Dans un esprit surréaliste, Kari propose des éléments communs dans ses peintures, qui semblent ainsi composer des séries. renaissance, présentes dans ses peintures comme une façon de collages superposés sur les surfaces et les structures. Elles sont attrayantes par leur caractère immaculé et serein. Les techniques utilisées par Kari sont l’huile, l’acrylique et le crayon, ainsi que la sérigraphie et le numérique. Sa façon de travailler est souvent structurelle. L’usage des ombres crée de la profondeur et de la légèreté et l’illusion de la forme. Ainsi les sujets sont détachés de la réalité, bien qu’ils en contiennent partiellement à travers le symbolisme des images. Il peint souvent des sujets nocturnes. On pourrait dire qu’il peint de “la lumière noire”, parce qu’elle est transparente. La nuit n’est pas sombre, mais elle est un monde à part, que l’on ne peut voir ni atteindre de jour. I have been a full-time visual artist for some years now. Before that I worked as a primary school teacher for some forty years. That means I shared a great deal of my creative moments with children and teen-agers. Alongside my work I travelled on art trips, painted, and in particular in the last years immersed myself in the art of sculpture. My bronze sculptures have featured in a number of juried joined exhibitions as well as in individual exhibitions in Finland. I was also active in art societies for about a decade – of which two years as the chair. But now I direct all my creative energy exclusively towards my art. Bronze casting has a number of steps, which means that you can only produce a few sculptures a year. Working on bronze is hard but rewarding, like the material itself. My artwork is inspired by the home, nature, people, and animals. My sculptures bring about stories and fairly-tales that take on an imaginative life of their own. For an artist, time flies. Perhaps that is also why many of my bronze figures have acquired wings. Nowadays I enjoy ceramic sculpturing and painting the most. I am an abstract painter from Finland. My background is in fashion. I loved to design and make colourful and showy ensembles. I found abstract expressionism in January 2020 and fell in love immediately. Since then, I have painted in active and purposeful manner almost every day. Intuition is my guide. I get ideas and inspiration from everything around me. First, I decide colour of the first layer and then with help of music I just let myself to dive to the flow. I love strong colours, especially bright pink. I often use different lines and characters that I make using various pens and brushes. Often my motto is “more is more”. I use lots of layers and textures. What I love most in abstract art, is how the painting itself decides what it wants to be. My art mirrors my inner emotional world and playful attitude to life. I try to be as kid like as I can: open, brave, and free.

Aleksandra Mallet (b. 1984) is an artist currently living in Helsinki. She has crafted an international career with exhibitions in Mexico, Berlin,

Her work is inspired by the Yucatán Peninsula and the colourful Mayan culture while still drawing from her artistic origins in Finland. Since 2021 Aleksandra has been developing Karelian AI Art, which combines Artificial Intelligence with her roots in former Karelia, and the history of Karelianism. Our Lady of The Nature or the icon of Luonnotar is a homage to the Spirit of the Nature from Karelian / Finnish mythology, made to resemble religious works of art in Christian tradition. On the other hand, the image of Luonnotar is a self-portrait of an AI generated by DALL·E 2, OpenAI’s new AI system, introduced in April 2022, that can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language. The original AI created image was used as an input to create a large, 150cm x 150cm, painting of Luonnotar, which was then by using AI mixed with the patron icon of the Romanov family, ’The Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God’. The resulting image was printed on Finnish wood, and the actual painting is created on top of the print by Aleksandra using the classic Egg Tempera technique - resulting in an interesting mix of history and future of art.

The Cherry Tree

I am a visual artist working in Espoo, close to Helsinki, the capital of Finland. I paint expressively and colorfully with oil on canvas and acrylic on plexiglass. I get ideas from forests, seas and lakes, hiking trails in Lapland and my own garden. Some of my experiences come from other countries and different conditions and seasons. However, the painting history of my work "Under the Cherry Tree", which is on display in Paris, does not originate from abroad, such as Japan, the land of cherry blossoms, but from my own garden. "Under the Cherry Tree" is painted with acrylic mainly on the back side of the plexiglass so that the front side of the plexiglass can shine like glass.

Je suis artiste visuel qui travaille à Espoo, près d'Helsinki, la capitale de la Finlande. Je peins de manière expressive et riche en couleurs, en utilisant l'huile sur toile et les acryliques sur plexiglas Je tire mes sujets de la nature : les forêts, la mer et les lacs, les sentiers de randonnée en Laponie et mon propre jardin. Certaines de mes expériences dans la nature ont eu lieu dans d'autres pays et dans des circonstances et des saisons différentes. Je transfère mes souvenirs dans mon art. Riitta Santala-Köykkä

Riitta Santala-Köykkä is a painter and photographer, who works and lives in Finland. She has studied fine art in various places, e.g., Art School Alfa-Art, Lapland Open University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The artist often depicts wild animals because she is concerned about the future of our planet. She has also done research on the visual images of the Arctic. The polar bear has become a symbol of climate crisis, as warming temperatures are melting its habitats. In the Arctic, the climate is warming at least twice as fast as the rest of the planet. In less than 40 years, the Arctic Sea ice has lost about half of its surface area and thickness. A great many animal species are already critically endangered everywhere in the world. Riitta Santala-Köykkä has addressed this problem in her “Fleeing Creatures” series of works. I am a Finnish visual artist living in Helsinki. Nature is important to me and a source of ideas for my paintings, water in particular, being an ever-changing element. I look for beauty in everyday life and want to express it in my paintings. While taking my subjects mostly from the real world, I recently have turned more and more towards abstract expression. Working in colours inspires me, as does the music that I listen to while painting. I have painted in oil colours in my leisure time for over thirty years, participating in various study groups under several teachers. In the near future I shall graduate from an art school where I enrolled to expand my skills, techniques, and artistic expression. I have had art exhibitions not only in Finland but also in Spain, Italy and Japan.

The most important things in my life are our small cat family with my partner, and making art. I live and work in the same space with them. The oldest of the five is 14 years old and the two youngest turns 2 in the summer. Cats are easier to understand than humans if you find out. Cats are not malicious. You don't have to read cats between lines in the same way as humans. The choice to paint with acrylics is also due to the cats. Even with my first cat's, Igor's, time as kitten he was constantly trying to get messy with oil paint which is why I quickly switched to safer alternative.

Expressing emotions through colours is the best right now. Energies, music, love, peace, and laughter are part of my creative process. The arc of development is diverse and colourful. I am an explorer of the soul. Memories serve as starting points and springboards for creativity. The senses get mixed up, I hear pictures, I see scents as colours, it’s called synesthesia. I want to give the viewer something. I get enchanted, some atmosphere affects my mind so deeply that I get an aha-experience. A theme emerges from it, and I work on it in my mind. Then I let my hand take the lead. Making art opens into creative play. I become a child – I forget myself for a moment. All doing is emotional. I have something to say with it. Painting with emotion and creating something beautiful is especially important to me. I want to give people a good mood and a feeling of happiness and make them dream too. I’ve often noticed that when I’m totally engrossed in my work, the whole world fades away. There is no knowledge of the passage of time. There is only this moment

Gunnar Bauer

Mr Bauer retired from IBM in 2002 where his last position was working as a Project Executive with customers representing various industries including airline, insurance, pulp&paper as well as whole sale distribution. Having retired, there was time to rediscover forgotten drawing- and painting skills as well as to acquire new insights and knowledge in disciplines like gardening and tree care. Mr Bauer joined Espoo Art in 2011 and was an active board member 2014–2016. He works with oil and prefers the figurative classic approach when drawing and painting. He has participated in several exhibitions, both privately and as arranged by Espoo Art over the years.

Bauer a pris sa retraite d'IBM en 2002 où son dernier poste était celui de Chef de projet avec des clients représentant diverses industries, y compris compagnies aériennes, assurances, pâtes et papiers ainsi que la distribution en gros. Ayant pris sa retraite, il était temps de redécouvrir le dessin et la peinture oubliés compétences ainsi que d'acquérir de nouvelles idées et connaissances dans des disciplines telles que jardinage et entretien des arbres. M. Bauer a rejoint Espoo Art en 2011 et a été membre actif du conseil d'administration de 2014 à 2016. Il travaille l'huile et privilégie l'approche figurative classique quand dessiner et peindre. Sanna Riikonen (born 1984) is a Finnish freelancer and an artist currently living and creating art in Helsinki. She studied traditional art techniques at Hyvinkää Art School and art education at Aalto University. She observes the ever-changing dream for beauty, perfection, views on gender and womanhood, and phenomena in popular culture with a playful eye and brush strokes. Versatile paintings and dramatic charcoal drawings are her favourite ways to portray these subject matters in a visual representation. On display, there are two pieces of her acrylic paintings that portray visions, landscape-like details, and collages of characters forming greater formations. An exciting duo of highly detail-oriented paintings might lead the viewer on a trip down the memory lane of childhood heroes or paths of the classical Golden Age of Finnish art history. In "Once upon a time..." her unique painting method reveals one of the most loved Finnish artworks of all time, Helene Schjerfbeck's the Convalescent, 1888 with a playful take "painted" by characters from our childhood movies and series. I am a visual artist from Brasil. I always try to embelish a state of mind guided by music, movies or poetry into my work, so they are essencial in my creation process. My painting “Sleeping with the Fishes” emerges from an universe based on my experiences in life, specially those of my early age. My aesthetict in general includes references from Tim Burton's art, Edgar Allan Poe's literature, Ayami Kojima paintings, “Anime”, among others. It is usualy engineered from fantasized human situations, and the content is presented as an attempt to create a provocative narration. The settings and the characters dreamy state blend themselves in real psycological appearances, offering the public hints to raise questions about existence and the value of illusions. Opposites interact in these images: Beauty and Ugliness; Light and Shadow; Good and Evil; The challenge of fear crossed by tenderness in the space of the canvas leave no sense of time to the figures that are highlighted for they're translucent eyes, although distant, represent vague looks immersed in their own thoughts.

To Talent in favour of the imagination... Everything is expressed in movement to the sound of our subconscious and each artist has a different orchestra, for me the abstract symbolizes life. Ana Gonçalves, Portuguese artist, was born in 1959 in Mopeia, Mozambique. She now lives between Porto and Nantes. Artistic approach: As far as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by movement, musical rhythm, and the freedom it provides, probably because I was frequently bedridden in my childhood. I am seduced by abstraction which gives the artist the freedom to trust his intuition and feel particularly close to abstract expressionism. Very early on, thanks to the works of Jackson Pollock, Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, I realized that asymmetry, curves, and obliques could suggest dynamism, life. From a limited palette of pigments in vibrant colours and current mixed techniques, I try to create a symbiosis between colours and texture to evoke the passage from one world to another and challenge the viewer. My name is Linda Achar, I am an artist and graphic designer. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve dabbled in art, expressing my creativity through dance, music and currently, through my paintings. The arts seem to have always been a natural part of who I am. I love to paint, but specifically, I love that through my paintings I can express myself. Painting became a large part of my life after a career transition and has remained a significant part of my life since. Through this transition it felt like painting helped me to regain my freedom and expression. I aim for my artwork to be beautiful, aesthetic, and decorative. But more importantly, I aim for my art to speak and send messages. As an artist I paint for people to not only see, but also to feel. There is more to art than the moment in which the work is created. There is a story within each art piece for all of us. My artwork shares the stories and messages of people across the world. Through portraiture I help people relate to one another and understand that despite our differences we are all related across boundaries. My portraits speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and help people to hear their calls and become aware of their challenges. The first step in progress is awareness, and I urge us all to become aware and perhaps be led to feel some sense of compassion. I want to contribute to making the world a better place and to inspire society and humankind to have positive impacts. I do this with every single brush stroke. I consider myself lucky to be able to embrace and be immersed in art. I am grateful to have this gift. My goal is to share this gift with every single soul and to be an inspiration for artists and people to become better artists and better Human beings. I do what I love and I love what I do.

Kinkas Kaetano

Born in Brazil, Kinkas lives and works between Rio de Janeiro and Paris. In 1989 UNICEF offered him the opportunity of a 6-month residency in Switzerland, which marked the beginning of his artistic path in Europe. He then quickly turned to painting and developed his practice. Encouraged by his friend Octavio Herrera, one of the leading artists of the MADI movement, he exhibited his works for the first time in 1992 at the Brazilian Embassy. Kinkas' tropical roots permeate his plastic universe. Nature and the human are at the heart of his work, referring us to the fundamental questioning of the place of man in the world, of his action on his environment. In his work, natural and cultural forces clash and materialize on the canvas through recurring elements: the body, sometimes feminine, chaotic or nurturing, blends harmoniously into a chromatic and graphic abundance, evocation of a living, exuberant nature. And fragile. Characterizing his work as instinctive and random, the artist is fond of acrylic paint and has a predilection for frank and saturated colors. Since his first exhibition, Kinkas has established himself on the international scene. His works are part of private and public collections, they have been exhibited in Brazil but also in France, Hungary, Lebanon, Portugal, Switzerland and the United States, notably at Miami Art Basel in 2015 and Art Palm Beach 2016.

Né au Brésil, Kinkas vit et travaille entre Rio de Janeiro et Paris. La nature et l’humain sont au cœur de son travail, nous renvoyant au questionnement fondamental de la place de l'homme dans le monde, de son action sur son environnement. Dans son œuvre, forces naturelles et culturelles s’affrontent et se matérialisent sur la toile par des éléments récurrents : le corps, tantôt féminin, chaotique ou nourricier, se fond harmonieusement dans un foisonnement chromatique et graphique, évocation d’une nature vivante, exubérante et fragile. Caractérisant son travail d'instinctif et d’aléatoire, l’artiste affectionne la peinture acrylique et a une prédilection pour les couleurs franches et saturées. Depuis sa première exposition, Kinkas a su s’imposer sur la scène internationale. Ses œuvres font partie de collections privées et publiques, elles ont été exposées au Brésil mais aussi en France, en Hongrie, au Liban, au Portugal, en Suisse et aux Etats-Unis, notamment à Miami Art Basel en 2015 et Art Palm Beach 2016.

Itamar Xavier

He settled in Presidente Prudente (SP), where he attended courses in arts and education. He graduated in Visual Arts from UNIMES and Pedagogy from UNOESTE, became a master’s in education from UNOESTE, where he studied cultural historical theory. He carries out his work between painting on canvas, mosaics and graffiti. The artist received the Best Pedagogical Practices awards – SEDUC (2019), Unoeste Solidaria Award – UNOESTE (2013 and 2014), was a semifinalist of the Arte Na Escola Cidadã Award – Instituto Arte na Escola (2018); holds the Brazilian record for Largest Image Produced with Electronic Waste (2018); World record for the largest mosaic with plastic covers (2019). He has works in private and institutional collections in Brazil, such as the popular art gallery of Fundação Inova-SP (2019), Centro Cultural de Mogi Mirim (2020). The artist has been painting on walls regularly since 2016, and among his main individual productions are: Mural Razão e Emoção, (2018), Fundação INOVA, Presidente Prudente, Brazil; Mural Virtual Reality, 2020, Presidente Prudente bus station and Mural Inclusion, OAB de Presidente Prudente, 2020. One of his works is part of the traveling exhibition Arte Pela Cruz, which visits several municipalities in Brazil. His works, produced with electronic materials taken from the trash, were nationally recognized, being featured in several TV shows and receiving attention from the Minister of Technology himself, who set aside a special place in the ministry to keep one of his works. In 2018, his work was nationally recognized when he received visits from presenter Luciano Huck and artist Eduardo Kobra, began to participate in other TV shows and had his story of overcoming a prisoner who became a master’s in education told in several media.

I am a plastic artist by training and experimentation. The presence of my grandmother, with her multiple skills, was crucial to guide my gaze in search of unimportant, simple things, forming landscapes contained in detail. Among all the shapes, materials, techniques that my gaze travelled, the enchantment with the paper was immediate and I was fascinated by seeing the pantry table full of magazines being cut out and transformed into multiple shapes. Cut out, these pages had a rare quality: they displayed the hidden beauty of the fragment, endowed with a plastic force independent of the whole and I realized that they were no longer pages, but colours to be combined in forms that would compose objects. I understood and that definitely fascinated me. That's why I chose paper: for my grandmother who fragmented and reconstructed it, for its fundamental lightness, for its silent importance in our daily lives. In photography, to demean the image through the landscape contained in the detail, to make explicit the transitory, fleeting landscape, contained in a point of light, in lines that insist on being noticed, enabling the generation of infinite images with independent aesthetic force, free from coherence of the whole, genuine, inaugurating a new coherent whole. Just like paper, a wealth of possibilities.

Siomara Almeida

Siomara Almeida expresses her art through diverse media like paper, silk, canvas, and porcelain, designing jewellery using precious Brazilian stones. Creative, she uses coffee, wine, egg yolk, indigo, and other organic products as a watercolour glaze. Siomara's attitudes toward life reflect a pictorial personality worthy of interest since the harmony concentrated in her artworks of all physical dimensions is visible, awarded with gold and silver medals in several national and international exhibitions. Her artworks have been in salons in several countries, such as Japan, Italy, Switzerland, the United States, Finland, France, and Portugal.

Ale Marx

In "Coleção de Cacos", by Drummond, the collector can remake, through colours and dreams, the flowers that once decorated the porcelains. Added to the collection work present in the poem is the transforming power that makes shards something new in Ale Marx´s painting. Taking inspiration from the Japanese ceramic repair technique Kintsugi, this work values not only the fragments of memories and senses, multi-coloured, but also, and mainly, what unites them, in gold. Expressively, this picture parallels life itself: loves, hurts, memories, and feelings linked in one body at the same time multiple and unique.

Caroline Gonçalves

She has been working with art since 2014, started her career with mosaic, teaches workshops, develops muralism projects, and started painting murals and canvases from 2020 during the pandemic. The work chosen for the Paris exhibition was painted in 2021, a critical moment of the pandemic. The painting represents hope that everything will pass, it represents movement, flow. The colorful background like the flow of a river shows the fluidity of life. The leaves represent us, to stand firm.

Elle est artiste depuis 2014, et elle a commencé sa carrière en faisant de la mosaïque. Aujourd’hui, Caroline anime des ateliers de moisaïque et développe aussi des projets de muralisme. Elle a commencé à peindre des peintures murales et des toiles en 2020, pendant la pandémie. L'œuvre choisie pour l'exposition parisienne a été peinte en 2021, moment critique de la pandémie. La peinture représente l'espoir que tout passera, c’est-à-dire, le mouvement, le flux de la vie. Le fond coloré est comme le courant d'une rivière, il représente la fluidité de l’existence. Les feuilles qui résistent symbolisent notre fermeté.

Edith Rizzo

Edith Rizzo was born in Santa Adélia in the state of São Paulo, studied Mathematics at UEL, in Londrina, PR, and in 1992 moved to Vila do Abraão, Ilha Grande, in Angra dos Reis, RJ. During that time, she painted on Xuxa´s program on Rede Globo Television. She moved to Paraty, RJ, in 2003, and in 2013 recieved excelent critique by the cartoonist Ziraldo, her realist and surrealist paintings, which emphasize the regional beauties, legends and customs, decorate walls of all continents. And it is to this magic word that leads people to admire her paintings. Edith Rizzo draws, paints, sculpts in wood and bronze and carries with her numerous awards and titles inside and outside in Brazil, holding chair occupying chair 252 at the Mondial Art Academia, in France, and in 2022 became cultural delegate of the M.A.A. for Brazil.

Raphaela Vasconcellos

Raphaela Vasconcellos is a visual artist, migrant mother, educator, who uses her art to discuss and democratize philosophical issues. Passionate about the human psyche, her aesthetics seeks to deconstruct the ideals of perfection, the rigidity between concrete and abstract and the standards of beauty. She invites the observer to dive into the depths of subjectivity, so that through the contemplative experience, he may feel inspired to leave superficiality and enter the depths of subjectivity, finding his own meanings.

On my last visit to Paris, I observed the feet of the Tower and thought about this structure. How many looks up, how much light, how many dreams come true! To be there in the Tower is to be anchored in the history of Paris and in Gustave's dream.

Je m'appelle Mara Estela Saggioratto Pozetti, je suis née à Catanduva et je vis actuellement à São Paulo. J'ai un diplôme en arts visuels à la Faculdade Paulista de Arte. Je travaille comme éducatrice d'art na dans une école privée. Je suis passionnée par la couleur et la déformation des formes, des éléments qui m'enchantent pour leur impact visuel. C'est pourquoi je les utilise fréquemment dans mes peintures.

Art School CASA

CASA, The Art School for underprivileged Children was founded in August 2005. Art School is meant for children living in the Favela of Cidade de Deus - City of God, in Rio de Janeiro. The school’s aim is to help these Children fulfil their dreams of a better future through the power of art and to give them a constructive hobby and direction in life. There are currently 15 children in the school, ranging in age from 4-15 years.

We hope that our work will help to prevent these children from ending up on the streets. Association Arte Vida Arte supports the activities of the Art School CASA. Finnish artists from the organization have been visiting Cidade de Deus and working with the children. You can also be a part or this very valuable project and help give these children a better future.
