The objective in going to college for most people is to obtain the knowledge and degree that lands a worthwhile job. Yet being a student also affords great inroads to finding career opportunities.

Why not take advantage now of the opportunities being a CCA student offers?

Here are several ways to maxi mi z e you r j ob search wh i l e en rol l ed : Sp en d ti me i n th e med i a cen ters Take the facility’s tour, and learn what you can about each machine. Try to use them, if possible, to boost the quality of work in your portfolio.

In the end, you’ll have a professional portfolio without the expensive cost, as well as technological knowledge about the equipment, which might just be the extra advantage you need for a specific job.

Take a vari ety of cou rses ou tsi d e you r maj or Writing courses can help improve your ability to communicate well, which is essential for writing grants or proposing contracts.

Graphic design and web design courses will increase your knowledge in building and maintaining your online portfolio, and exploring electives might introduce you to potential new career paths.

So, take internships seriously; they not only provide college credit but can also be rewarding in numerous other ways.

Parti ci p ate i n Career Servi ces worksh op s These student events (/students/careers/work) are created with your future in mind, and the workshop guest speakers are industry professionals and successful alumni. They have established experience and proven expertise in their fields. Workshop speakers are an invaluable source of information, as well as stellar networking opportunities.

Tu rn to you r p rofessors You attend a college where the professors are real-world masters in their field. Take advantage of learning how they continue to promote their work. Doing so can help you navigate the ins and outs of becoming a working artist upon graduation.

The CCA faculty is a great network. You couldn’t ask for better mentors than practicing artists. Your professors and instructors also know other working professionals and might be able to offer referrals or recommendations, or both.

CCA offers free resou rces su ch as acad emi c coach es an d Lyn d a.com CCA’s Learning Resource Center (/students/resources) provides coaching at no cost to you. The writing coaches can help you improve anything you have to write, like résumés, grant proposals, contracts, and online portfolio pages. Working with software coaches now on how to use the software needed to create a professional portfolio will prevent stress and large amounts of money spent after graduation.

Access to training tutorials at Lynda.com (http://www.lynda.com) is also a significantly valuable resource that CCA offers students at no cost. Step-by-step instructions illustrate how to use different websites and software programs that are crucial in promoting yourself and your work.

Reach Ou t to Career Servi ces CCA’s Career Services (/students/careers/) offers a liaison between CCA students and many different companies. The department is a great place to start networking, build and perfect your résumé, search for internships, receive advice on furthering your education, or get help with your job search.
