Welcome to the Metropolitan Amateur Series!

As an Amateur Series participant you have access to six one-day events. In each event played, you will earn season points based on how you finish in your division that day. At the end of the season, the top players in each division’s standings will be invited to play in the Series Championship. You can play in as many of the six events as you want: play one or play all six! Each event will have a 9:00am shotgun start for all golfers and remunerations given following the completion of play.

This guide breaks down all of the information you need to have a fun and smooth year in the Amateur Series!

Digital Scorecards

In the Amateur Series, we utilize digital scorecards through Golf Genius. This allows for real time results and faster turn around following the completion of the play.

We ask that every participant follow the following instructions to have a seamless competitive experience at each event:

**Note:IfyoudonothaveaniPhoneorAndroidthatcandownload theapp,pleasenotifythestaffbeforeyourfirstevent.Uponround completion,immediatelyreturnyourscorecardtotheMAGAstaff insidesotheycanenteryourscoresintothesystem.

Step 1: Download the GolfGenius App on your Mobile Phone.

(Current App Logo Shown ->)

Step 2: Login to the App Using the GGID provided to you at or before the event.

**If a physical scorecard is given, the GGID can be located on the top right corner of the card.

**Each player will have their own unique GGID code.

Step 3: Take note of who you will be keeping score for.

When you login using the GGID provided, the next screen will tell you who you are the marker for.

Step 4: As you play and complete each hole, enter the score for the person you are marking into the app, AS WELL AS, your own score in the marker’s note box. Don’t forget to click Save Score after entering each hole!

Step 5: Certify your scores at the completion of the round. You will be shown two scorecards, one of the person you marked for and one of your own. Each scorecard will have the scores entered by the marker and entered by the player. Any discrepancies between the two will be highlighted.

Step 6: Click the Certify as Marker box and the Certify as Player box.

After you have reviewed and checked the entered scores and agree they are correct, mark the box and click confirm.

Step 7: You are DONE!

The app will then change screens to show you the officially submitted scores. If you notice anything that is still incorrect, please find the MAGA staff inside the club to make any necessary changes.

Playoff Policy Payout Policy

Should multiple players be tied following the conclusion of their rounds, a scorecard play-off will occur. ALL TIES WILL BE BROKEN using the recommended method in the Committee Procedures

Section 5A(6d) Matching Scorecards. The following order will be used until the tie is broken:

1. Score for the last 9 Holes

2. Score for the last 6 Holes

3. Score for the last 3 Holes

4. Score for the 18th Hole

5. Score for the last 6 Holes (of the first 9)

6. Score for the last 3 Holes (of the first 9)

7. Score for the Final Hole (of the first 9)

To view the full Committee Procedures Section 5A, click here.

In the Amateur Series Championship, this policy will not be used to determine a winner. Any ties for the top spot following the conclusion of the Second Round, will go into a sudden death play-off. They will play one hole at a time, in the order set by the committee until a winner is determined.

Any Renumerations for play will be given at the conclusion of the round. No rewards will be given until EVERYONE in the day’s event has completed play, entered results, and certified their scores. Once the final results can be seen in Golf Genius, the on-site staff will then identify/label the correct reward to the correct player, and will then pass the renumerations out to the players in the clubhouse.

Payouts are usually given in the form of a gift certificate to the golf shop of the course being played that day.

Items within the club that the certificate can be used towards and use expiration dates are at the sole descretion of the club.

Should a player not be able to collect their reward the day of the event, it will be mailed via USPS to the address provided in your Golf Genius Account.

Pace of Play Policy Season Yardages

All players are expected to keep a timely pace throughout their round. This means that you should always have eyes on the group in front of you, and the group behind you should not be continuously waiting on you to finish before making each of their shots throughout the round.

(Remaining on Pace is partially determined by keeping up with the group IN FRONT of you not BEHIND you.)

A paper scorecard provided by the association will usually have the time in which your group is expected to finish a hole. Please use these times as a guide to determine if your group is falling behind.

**All Yardages are Approximate**

What if your group is ahead of pace? GREAT! Keep Going! But know that when your group is ahead of schedule, and you are waiting on the group in front of you, there is nothing that can be done to speed them up so long as they are on pace.

If a group is slow, they will be asked to speed up. Should they continue to cause a pace issue throughout the round, they can face penalty. In the case of penalty, if there is enough evidence to show it is a specific player slowing the group, that player will get the penalty, otherwise the whole group will face penalty. Serial Offenders may face expulsion from the Amateur Series.

Playing the Event

When a player arrives for play at an Amateur Series Event, the committe will have the carts prepared with cart signs, scorecards, and notice to players. Please locate the cart assigned to you by locating the cart sign with your name on it.

You are free to use the practice facilities before the start of play. We ask that all participants return to their cart at the designated meeting hub 10 minutes before the start of play. This will allow the Committee to make any necessary announcements regarding local rules or other items that need attention before play begins, guide players in the correct direction to their starting hole, and for everyone to start play on time at 9:00am. Please wait until you are instructed before making your way to your starting hole.

Notice your playing partner has not arrived? Please contact someone on the MAGA committee or staff about this absence. Return that player’s scorecard to us, so that we are aware of the absence and can mark them accordingly in the system. This will expedite the process of certifying scores following play by keeping us from waiting on a player that did not play.

If a player in your group withdrew during the middle of the round, please follow the same procedure above. When you see an Official notify them of the WD and return that player’s scorecard so that their withdrawal can be offically accounted for.

Please make yourself familiar with the Notice to Players. This will be your guide for the day regarding local rules, ground under repair, and any other unique situations that may become prevalent on the course.

Net Divisions will use the Maximum Score Format of Double Gross Par. If you get to double par on a hole please pick up as this will help keep up with pace of play.

Open Divisions will NOT use Maximum Score. Players will be required to hole-out each hole and report their outright score on their scorecard.

Please keep an accurate account of the score for the player you are marking and your own score. At the conclusion of the day, this will make the certification process run smoother and more efficiently.

Once again, we request that you use the Digital Scorecards in the Golf Genius App. There will be a paper scorecard provided to each player as a back up in the occurance that an individual does not have an iPhone or Android, has bad cell reception/slow load times, or the phone being used dies. Note: the Digital Scorecard WILL count as the Official Scorecard for the event. The paper scorecard is simply a backup and second source of verification.

We will have Rules Officials roving throughout the course. Though they try their best, it is hard to be present during every rules scenario. Familiarizing yourself with the Notice to Players may solve your problem without need of an offical. Included on the Notice to Players will be the number to call if you have a Rules situation and cannot find an Official.

12 13

Following Your Round

If you used the digital scorecard and have certified your round, you are finished! We will hand out certificates after all rounds have been certified and the ties are broken. If you are not receiving renumerations, you are free to go!

Any paper scorecards you used can be returned to the MAGA staff inside. Locate the label that says “Input AND Verified in GolfGenius Scorecards” and place your scorecard there.

If you had a discrepency after certifying scores or could not enter scores for any reason, please return your scorecard to the MAGA staff so they can assist. If they are busy helping another player, and you just need the scores entered into the system, find the label that says “Needs to be Input or Edited in GolfGenius Scorecards”. The staff will double check, enter, and correct those scores.

*Scorecards DO NOT have to be returned when using the Digital Scorecards, but in the instance some scores are incomplete, uncertified or missing, this will allow for the committee to know that a group has completed their round and resolve any questions.

DO NOT Leave until you have completed all steps in the Digital Scorecard certification process. Make sure all players in your grouping have completed their certification as well. Leaving with uncertified scores can prolong the completion and award process. This may cause the committee to finish the round with incorrect scores input or mark players as WD. If a player - or players - continues to fail to certify scores in the app nor return a scorecard to the staff, they can face repercussions.

If you have a Rules Question that has not been answered yet, report inside so that the MAGA staff and officials can assist in clarifying a correct decision.

MAGA WILL post scores from the day’s round to each player’s GHIN record. **Do not post your own scores to avoid double posting in your account.

At the Series Championship

Following the completion of your rounds, please IMMEDIATELY report to the Scoring Area to return your scorecards. Return your card BEFORE unloading your cart and placing items in your vehicle. This will assist in a timely finish and prevent the accidental depature without returning a scorecard.

Make sure there are two signatures on the card - one from the Marker and one from the Player. This informs the committee that what is written on the card has been checked and agreed upon by both parties. Should there be an issue or concern, this would be the time to discuss with the staff in scoring.
