Ms. BISHOP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED FOR THE TIME SHE GIVES TO THE STUDENTS AS COACH OF THE GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND SPRING TRACK TEAM. SHE DEVOTES MUCH OF HER TIME TO WORK ON THE PROM AND CLASS TRIPS, AMONG MANY OTHER THINGS. IN THE CLASSROOM SHE ENTERTAINS THE STUDENTS WITH INTERACTIVE NOTES ON THE NEW SMART BOARD AND WITH HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE STUDENTS TRACING EACH OTHER TO MAKE THEIR OWN SKELETONS AND CREATING MODELS OF THE LUNGS WITH BALLOONS AND EMPTY SODA BOTTLES. ONLY Ms. BISHOP CAN MAKE A TOPIC AS TECHNICAL AS CELLULAR RESPIRATION.

Two Exceptional Teachers

Mr. MARADEI IS A HIGHLY RESPECTABLE PERSON AND COACH, ON AND OFF THE FIELD. HE IS KNOWN AS “COACH” BY MOST OF HIS STUDENTS, EVEN THOSE WHO DON’T PLAY FOOTBALL. Mr. MARADEI TEACHES LIFE LESSONS AND GUIDES HIS STUDENTS IN THE RIGHT PATH TO BECOMING A GOOD PERSON. Not ONLY DOES “COACH” SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE FOR THE GAME OF FOOTBALL, HE TEACHES SCIENCE, AND INSPIRES HIS STUDENTS TO SHOW CHARACTER AND DO WELL IN SCHOOL. THEY QUOTE HIM SAYING, “CHARACTER IS WHO YOU ARE WHEN NO BODY IS LOOKING.” EVEN IF YOU NEVER HAD Mr. MaRADEI IN CLASS, HE MAKES AN EFFORT TO GET TO KNOW YOUR NAME.

In the fall, the Cougars gather to 4 demonstrate their Austin pride. Dur- ils Seco ing Spirit Week the students have an opportunity to participate inanumber of events. Hippie Day, anew addition to Spirit Week, allowed students and faculty to show off their best 60’s attire. Mr. and Mrs. Gramling, who took their costumes to the next level, were sport-

ing the grooviest outfits. Friday, during Se

the traditional Green and White Day,

athletes supported their teams bywear- ge ing theirjerseys, and students dressed down in green and white. The week’s activities included a faculty — senior

basketball game with Mr. Piccini scoring the winning basket. The senior football players coached the senior and junior girls in the Second Annual Powder Puff Football Game. Arianna Rigano led the seniors to victory scoring the only touchdown of the game. Friday’s pep rally opened with Christina Giordano singing the National Anthem and Mike MacIntyre hosted with the help of the School-Wide Student Council. The event featured brief speeches by the teams’ captains and the usual junior school-wrestling match for t-shirts and candy that were thrown into the crowd by the Cougar, Ms. Fuller. Saturday brought disappointment since all sporting events were rained out, but that didn’t stop the annual homecoming dance from being a complete success. Andrew Fathergill and Caitrin Coffey werenamed homecoming King and Queen, and the football team had a 32-31 victory over Cardinal Spellman the next day.

After June 4, 2006, our class will go our separate ways and embark on new endeavors. What we will have left after that day is our memories encased into one book, this yearboaok. Our demanding academic courses have always kept us on our toes. Each student knows how to balance his or her academics, athletics, and extra-curricular activities. There’s still time to have fun together, whether it is during activity period, at Saturday’s football game, or just hanging out with friends on the weekend. If we’re not on the field, we’re on the sidelines. Rules have been broken, forgiveness has been granted; teachers have been pushed to their limits, but they will never forget us. Different groups have had their disagreements, but we have reconciled. We are unique to our year, as previous classes were to earlier years, and future ones will be to forthcoming years. We are a party in ourselves; we are the class of 2006!

ERLEADING

Whether it was rinkside or courtside, the Austin Prep cheerleaders were there cheering on the boys. Although they have fun together all the time, it is only at the basketball games where they perform stunts during half-time featuring flyers Amanda Dube and Courtney Saia. Captain Kim Clark related that the team performs well due to the teamwork and cooperation among the girls. Under the direction of Coaches Maureen Kieran and Jennifer Pierce, the girls have improved their cheering skills and become more experienced. Their spirit and enthusiasm is contagious and well appreciated!

This year’s Omega Staff put their creative efforts together to produce a yearbook that showcases the class of 2006 and the Austin community. Under the direction of Ms. O’Leary and Jostens representative Kevin Dillon, the class learned to compromise and cooperate. The goal of the class was to learn hands-on computer and graphic design skills in order to produce a unique yearbook. The staff was able to interact with their peers by interviewing and taking pictures of members of sports teams and clubs. During class time, pages were drawn out, pictures selected, and decisions were made regarding what font was to be used, which superlatives the senior class would vote on, and who would be assigned to cover different pages. Not only did the students work diligently during class time, but also at many activity periods, after school, and even during vacation.
