This is why we need to believe in the second Adam – who is Jesus Christ, and be saved, and pray for the Nation daily.

Even though they may have never sinned before; according to law – they have sinned because of the one before them. Matthew 23:31 – Jesus was speaking; “So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.” This is the sin of the whole nation against God. So the sins of the fathers were imputed to others born a long time after the initial sin took place; by legal right. That is how God punished the whole nation. If you are living in a nation that is against the prophets or the Word of God – you need to repent and pray. 1 Samuel 12:23a “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you

R1.2bn funding for tourism sector put on hold amid threat of court action By Zainul Dawood

Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane. Picture: Thobile Mathonsi/African News Agency/ANA THE R1.2 billion Tourism Equity Fund (TEF) has been suspended after two organisations threatened to take legal action against the criteria that will be used to award funding to applicants. The Covid-19 pandemic brought the tourism sector to a grinding halt. The fund, established by the Department of Tourism in partnership with the Small Enterprise Finance Agency, is a mechanism to provide a combination of debt finance and grant funding to facilitate equity acquisition as well as new project development in the tourism sector by black entrepreneurs. Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said she had received a letter from attorneys representing trade union Solidarity and nongovernmental organisation AfriForum.

challenge the implementation of the Covid-19 tourism relief fund,” Kubayi-Ngubane said. She said both organisations were questioning the legality and rationality of the 51% black owner/managed qualification criteria for the fund, suggesting that it deviates materially from the provisions of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Act, read with the tourism code. The code prescribes a formula of allocating points for BBBEE compliance. Kubayi-Ngubane has called for enterprises that qualify to continue to apply. She said that B-BBEE was never designed to exclude established businesses or South Africans but to level the playing field in the economy.

Kubayi-Ngubane said the letter demanded that the operationalisation of the fund be suspended claiming “it is exclusive on the basis of race, and discriminates without any legal or justifiable basis”.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said many jobs in the tourism and associated sectors in the value chain had been shed. According to Ramaphosa, tourism directly accounts for 2.9% of South Africa’s GDP and 8.6% indirectly. It supports about one-and-a-half million direct and indirect jobs.

“It is not the first time that Solidarity and AfriForum have brought legal action against the department in an attempt to stifle transformation. Last year, these two organisations lost numerous court bids to

“The fund will cater to the specific needs of black-owned businesses to acquire equity, invest in new developments or expand existing developments,” Ramaphosa said.

Kubayi-Ngubane explained that during this three-year period the Department of Tourism will capitalise the fund with an amount of R540 million. She said the funding from the department will be matched by a contribution of R120m from Sefa and R594m from commercial banks that will be participating in the programme. This combination will put the value of the Tourism Equity Fund at just over R1.2 billion. Solidarity spokesperson Morné Malan said the government needed to reach out a hand to these businesses and support them, rather than abusing this opportunity to promote their racial ideology. AfriForum spokesperson Monique Taute said the government had a responsibility towards all citizens as everyone in the tourism industry was currently in urgent need of help. “The government cannot use a pandemic as an excuse to promote transformation while all South Africans are suffering,” Taute said. Both parties welcomed the opportunity to enter into a discussion with KubayiNgubane. - Daily News THE R1.2 billion Tourism Equity Fund (TEF) has been suspended after two organisations threatened to take legal action against the criteria that will be used to award funding to applicants

YOUNG LEADERS ACCESS PROGRAM 2021 APPLICATIONS OPEN The Young Leaders Access Program is a year-long program that prepares young people, 18 to 26, to become leaders of change in their communities through leadership development, global citizenship, selfawareness, and vision planning. The YLP team, mentors, and mentees all work together to impact communities through innovative ideas and concrete projects, hence truly accomplishing the purpose of Local Change Through Global Exchange®. Given the situation with the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, the YLP team is implementing the program to fully virtual through e-

modules, Zoom discussions, and virtual one-on-one learning between mentors and mentees. Young Leaders Access Program 2021 begins with the Community Needs Assessment, a 2-month community needs mapping project that prepares young people to better understand their own local community. After the community needs assessment, Young Leaders participate in a 3-month intensive Virtual Program that helps them become leaders of positive change in their communities. After Virtual Learning, participants spend 7 months developing their action plans with support from alumni mentors.

Community Needs Assessment The Young Leaders Access Program begins with an intensive community mapping project and community needs assessment, where Young Leaders will be provided with the tools and knowledge to assess their own community. This phase is implemented prior to starting the Virtual Learning portion, as it will provide the young leaders with a better understanding of the needs of their community. (2 months) Project Development Through Virtual Learning Participants come to the

Young Leaders Access Program with an idea of a community issue they want to address. Vision planning is the process of transforming passion into a concrete, tangible plan for change. Through online sessions with speakers, discussions, emodules, and assignments, participants will be able to put their local issues into a larger global context while understanding why they are in a unique position to make a change in their community. Participants will also determine which tools and skills can be applied to an actionable plan. (3 months)

Ongoing Support To further develop and execute their actionable plans, Young Leaders are paired with alumni mentors, who will guide them during the Virtual Program toward creating an actionable plan. During the year, alumni mentors support participants by facilitating quarterly “hangouts” and ongoing remote communication. Alumni mentors undergo customized training prior to the start of the program in order to support team building and cultural competency among the diverse group of Young Leaders. (7 months)

Given the current circumstances and safety measures for international travel and public gatherings, the Young Leaders Access Program 2021 will be fully implemented virtually. We hope to organize an in-person meeting in early 2022 if circumstances allow. **If you have any questions or need further clarifications, please feel free to contact apply@mcwglobal.org. 7 Ways to Promote Your Business Online in 2021 Are you doing everything you can to promote your business? It can be a trick question to figure out how to promote your business online in 2021. If one thing is for sure, the model for achieving a successful business constantly changes, especially as a result of the internet. However, as challenging as it might seem to figure out the modern ways of the internet for your business, truth be told, it can be relatively straightforward if you’re patient enough. Like anything else in life, the primary reason someone doesn’t succeed business-wise is more or less because they don’t have the patience to do so. Still, if you can manage to follow the general guides and advice out there to properly succeed, you’ll be able to champion your way through to having a great business. No matter what your niche might be, anything is possible in this day and age. However, as great as the modern age of the internet is, it can be a significant hindrance to your business if you’re not smart enough with how you promote your business on it. After all, marketing and promotion are arguably the two most vital aspects of a business. Nevertheless, down below will highlight seven of the best ways to promote your business. If you’re trying to pinpoint how to promote your

business online in 2021, look no further. Keep in mind, not one of these answers should be your sole approach to having a successful promotion of your business, but it should be utilized in a combining factor. 1. Use Social Media By now, you more than likely have heard about the importance of social media for your business. Whether it’s from your personal accounts or creating an actual business page, both are incredibly vital for your business’s longevity. It’s practically impossible for a business to succeed without a significant social media presence. Considering it’s relatively straightforward to run and manage an excellent social media business page, you might as well take the time necessary to ensure it’s a dedicated page. Instagram and Twitter are typically regarded as the two best platforms right now. However, a lot of people still use Facebook. Definitely make a page for all three and do what you can to ensure the content is consistent, engaging, and has an overall professional high-quality look to it. 2. Create a Blog If you have a natural knack for writing, consider adding a blog based on your business. For example, if you own a restaurant, make a blog

dedicated to everything related to the world of food, and random other content, you can relate to the subject. It can be advantageous to write a blog, but keep in mind, the more content you can pump out, the better results you’ll get for your blog in the long run. Basically, try not to neglect your blog and be mindful of the content you plan on posting moving forward. Plus, it can be advantageous for you in the long run when you look back and see how many blogs you have. Even if you’re not a great writer, having a blog can go a long way and is a lot easier than most people realize. 3. Create a YouTube Channel If you don’t wish to go the writing route, consider joining the world of YouTube. Considering there are more people than ever before who make a significant amount of income from YouTube, you might as well try to get in on the party. However, rather than simply rely on YouTube for a side income for your business, it can actually be utilized for your business. For example, if you own a music shop, you can have a YouTube channel dedicated to demoing out various pieces of gear. Nowadays, phones are strong enough to take video, and if you can manage to get an okay microphone for it, you’ll be able to make relatively

decent videos from the start. As you get more involved in the channel, upgrade your gear and see where it can go from there. 4. Utilize SEO For those who don’t know, SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the overall website traffic to a website by utilizing various SEO tools. There are plenty of ways to improve the SEO of your site. Still, usually, people regard SEO in reference to keywords. Keywords are the main subject of an article, and using the right keywords a few times in an article can allow it to reach better traffic. For example, an article like this might use the keyword phrase, how to promote your business online in 2021, get it? Unlike other promotion tools, SEO work is entirely free for a website to utilize and only requires a slight learning curve. 5. Submit Press Releases Even if you never read blogs or press articles anymore, the reality is that there’s a broad audience available in that realm. Tons of people read blogs, articles, and news all the time, especially regarding a business they’re interested in.

of thumb is to begin locally and small for places that are more likely to accept your press release. However, make what you’re submitting makes sense. If you’re a business involved with skateboarding, obviously don’t submit a press inquiry to a mom blog. 6. Company Collaborations If you tried to pinpoint the best element of the internet, you would more than likely highlight communication and our instantaneous ability to talk to someone in another part of the world. Going back to the theme of business promotion, company collaborations have never been easier, so consider reaching out to one with a similar size and see what you can come up with. 7. Join an Online Community Right next to the realm of communication is the many online communities that have sprung up. Countless Reddit and Discord pages allow people to discuss their specific interests and subjects. Try joining an online community that’s relative to your business, and make friends! No matter your business’s niche consider submitting a few press releases to blogs and media outlets. A good rule

MDDA PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MINISTER IN THE PRESIDENCY JACKSON MTHEMBU The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) joins South Africans in mourning the passing of Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu. The news of his departure have left us extremely shocked and devastated. In the passing of Minister Mthembu, South Africa has lost one of its most dedicated and greatest leaders. It is very hard to find the right words to pay a fitting tribute to such a remarkable servant of the people, save to say he was a gallant, selfless, dedicated and passionate leader whose heart was firmly rooted in the upliftment of the vulnerable, marginalised and disadvantaged. For him, the principles of Batho Pele were a part of his whole being. He lived and breathed these principles. He affirmed for us the goodness in humanity and leadership. With his open leadership style, Minister Mthembu believed in always being accessible to and personally interacting with those that he led and worked with. As the Agency's political principal, Minister Mthembu had a steely resolve in promoting and advocating for

media development and diversity. He always, without fail, emphasised the critical role of community and small commercial media in the battle of ideas, freedom of expression and media freedom. He was therefore deeply concerned that the sector is facing an unceasing battle for survival, particularly those serving poor rural communities. In these areas, the existence of a local media project is often the community's only access to the media. In his various interactions, Minister Mthembu always gave voice to the sector's growing plight in the face of advancements brought by the 4IR, severe undervaluing of community media and reduction of advertising budgets across sectors, amongst others. These sustainability issues were brought into sharp focus with the economic upheavals triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. With this disconcerting reality, Minister Mthembu impressed upon the MDDA to prioritise and ensure that a community media sustainability model is realised and implemented. His sudden departure comes at a time that plans are afoot to

commence a comprehensive research in this regard. Since his appointment, Minister Mthembu committed to bring stability to the MDDA through filling the long-standing board vacancies and the appointment of a permanent CEO. At the community media sustainability consultative conference held in August 2020 he said, “As promised when I was appointed to this responsibility and at my first interaction with the sector, I stated that I will prioritise installing leadership stability at MDDA. As you all know by now, Parliament has completed the process of appointing the board members for the existing four vacancies and will be initiating the process for the upcoming two vacancies in October 2020. I instructed the Board to prioritise the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and that was achieved, MsPotye is now the MDDA CEO.” Minister Mthembu was indeed results oriented and it therefore came as no surprise that he committed himself to being at the forefront of the MDDA fundraising strategy. This saw the Minister vigorously engaging with the

private sector and international funders; efforts that were targeted at improving the Agency's capital base in order to increase funding for MDDA beneficiaries, especially print and digital media projects. He was also a constant feature at the Funders Breakfast, an annual event held with current and prospective funders on MDDA key interventions, to report on previous funding commitments and present future projects for consideration. It is often said that true leaders are in the service of their people. They act with integrity and in the process establish trust. They genuinely value their people which then results in loyalty. True leaders are in the service of assisting people realise their full potential and in so doing inspire excellence. Minister Jackson Mthembu was a true leader. While he never shied away from constructive criticism and robust debate, his real power was rooted in his humility. This enabled him to act decisively, compassionately and ethically; thereby cementing himself as a distinguished leader, who had the ability to navigate any

engagement, lead the government communications machinery and take public criticism with the greatest finesse and grace. It may seem hackneyed to say that Minister Mthembu will be missed or that he went away too soon; but it is true. As the MDDA and community media sector, we are indeed left poorer by his sudden departure and will miss him dearly. With the setting of the sun on a life well lived, our unshakable responsibility is to carry the baton and forge ahead towards building a resilient and sustainable community media sector. Ditch the 5 hours Inverter & Use 12 volt Gadgets Edvertorial Load shedding is unavoidable especially if one or two generators breakdown. This is when it becomes absolutely necessary to implement rotational load-shedding. The power utility keeps alerting South Africans of risks of load shedding once there is a shortage of capacity due to the loss of generating units at any of its power stations. The power utility has also received additional megawatts than projected from wind power plants. At a media briefing, Eskom shared its Winter Plan where it indicated that it expects to implement 26 days of Stage 1 load shedding during the winter period, depending on the level of unplanned breakdowns. Eskom has appealed to residents and businesses to use electricity smartly and sparingly. “By rallying together we can contribute to a saving of up to 500MW, which is equivalent of 1 unit at a power station. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand,” it said. With innovation, we can all assist to conserve electricity on the grid through the use of affordable 12 volt gadgets that do not require the use of the traditional inverter. The article below will assist you to understand. 12 Volt Gadgets now in the SA market As load-shedding puts uncertainty in the consumer’s mind, and as solar installation prices remain high, mainly because of a large requirement of solar pannels and batteries coupled with a power consuming inverter that gives you only 5 hours of power, 12 volt appliances like 12v fridge, 12v freezer, 12v kettle, 12v hot plate stove (or gas stove), 12v dry iron with spray, 12v plasma TV (rechargeable), 12v sound systems (rechargeable), 12v hair dryer, 12v hair straightener, 12v led bulbs and motion sensing security lights etc... which avoids the use of an inverter are now available in the SA market. While the traditional inverter requires it's own power to run before it steps up power to run 220v appliances and has limitations depending how many watts the inverter is, 12 volt gadgets take the power directly from the batteries and work for the longest periods. During a power outage, with an inverter, one can have power for up to only 5 hours on a standard system, but on 12 volt gadgets, one can run for the whole night and during the day can still run all appliances with little limitations on a small inexpensive system. Coupled with a gas stove and solar geyser, most house holds can literally go off grid for much less that previously quoted.
