WOMEN’S L ACROSSE

The Northeast-10 Conference The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. With the addition of women’s golf in 2014-15, the NE10 now sponsors a total of 24 sports. The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.). The conference’s 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and from Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y. Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester and New York City. The Northeast-10 was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in the conference’s latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions. In addition, LIU Post (Brookville, N.Y.) is an associate member of the NE10 in the sports of field hockey and football. The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student-athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. The conference is coming off another successful year, collecting four national titles in 2015-16. Two champions from the NE10 were crowned at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships during the winter season. First it was American International’s Chandler Cotton, Jr., Kemani Hume, Leakey Kipkosgei and Chad Miller claiming the men’s distance medley relay title with a time of 9:48.02. Then Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro won the women’s 400-meter dash title with a time of 52.34 the following night. Muscaro wasn’t quite finished, however, as she defended her 400-meter dash crown at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, winning her

second individual national championship of 201516 by finishing the 400 in 51.32, just .03 seconds shy of the meet record. The very next day, Le Moyne defeated Limestone, 8-4, to win its fifth NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and cap off a perfect 20-0 season. When it came to NCAA postseason selections, the NE10 once again had another sensational year with 44 teams chosen to participate in national tournaments during the year. In addition, student-athletes from 32 different men’s and women’s golf, swimming and diving, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track & field teams competed for national titles. Of those 44 teams earning NCAA bids, 14 different Northeast-10 institutions were represented. Seven NE10 teams reached the national semifinal round, while three teams played in their respective sport’s national title game. It was a record year for the Northeast-10 academically in 2015-16 as well. Five NE10 institutions achieved a department Academic Success Rate (graduation rate) of at least 90 percent. Four achieved a score of 95 percent or better, ranking them in the top seven nationally. A record 61 percent of the league’s student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the spring with 243 posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Another new record was set this summer with the release of Team Academic Excellence awards, as 75 percent of the league’s 292 teams achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NE10 also honored 247 student-athletes as members of its academic all-conference teams during the fall, winter and spring seasons. The Northeast-10 also remains focused on its community endeavors. The conference has built a strong partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses with college sports teams. In 2015, the NE10 became the first ‘fully-matched’ conference in Division II, as at least one team from each member institution has matched with a Team IMPACT child. More than 60 NE10 teams currently have matches through Team IMPACT. The conference’s fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish are also more than any other Division II conference in the country over the past decade. Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 36 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.

In 2001, he joined the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse, spending six years with team, all of them as captain. He also helped the Lizards to MLL Championships in 2001 and 2003.

McCabe also brings a wealth of international experience to Adelphi. He first donned a USA jersey in 1988 as part of the U19 team at the World Championships in Adelaide, Australia, where he earned “Fairest and Best Player” honors. He followed that up with inclusion on the 1990 (alternate), 1998 and 2006 United States national teams, earning a gold medal in 1998 and a silver medal at the 2006 World Championships. Collegiately, McCabe spent time as a defensive coordinator with the LIU Post men’s lacrosse program from 1999-2001, helping the Pioneers to NCAA Division II runner-up finishes in 1999 and 2000. He was also a member of the Adelphi University men’s lacrosse coaching staff in 2011, pushing the Panthers to NCAA Division II runner-up status.

Motamed Field In 2008, Adelphi University announced the naming of its athletic competition field, part of its new outdoor sports stadium, in recognition of the generous support and leadership of its Board of Trustees Chairman, Thomas F. Motamed, Class of 1971. Motamed Field was the site of the 2011 NCAA Division II and III women’s lacrosse championship. It also played host to the 2010, 2011, and 2014 Northeast-10 Women’s Lacrosse Championships and the 2011, 2012, and 2014 Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

• Adjacent to the Motamed Field is a practice space. • The tennis courts are located just beyond this field and anchors the complex in one contiguous area. • All-weather surface material to allow for year-round practice and competition. • Four main light standards help illuminate the field for evening training and competition, as well as working media and game operations. The Outdoor Sports Complex features Motamed Field, which is the home for the Adelphi men’s and women’s soccer, lacrosse and field hockey programs.

• A heated/air-conditioned Press Box is located at the top of the stadium seats. Located midfield, the press box accommodates sports information, working media and game operations, which maintains the scoreboard and public address sound system. • The Panthers’ live in-game stats of soccer, lacrosse and field hockey events originates out of the press box. • Addition of a one-level parking structure for over 300 cars below the field.

Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation DANNY

McCABE After a nationwide search, Danny McCabe was appointed Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation at Adelphi in July 2013 by former Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott.

In his first two years at the helm of the athletics department, the Panthers continued to set a standard of excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference, winning the school’s second consecutive Presidents’ Cup in 2013-14 before finishing second in 2014-15. In that time, Adelphi claimed seven NE10 Championships, sent 15 teams to NCAA Tournament play and claimed two NCAA National Championships in women’s lacrosse. In 2015, the softball team reached the Women’s College World Series for the first time as a Division II program, winning the NCAA Division II East 2 Regional on Janet L. Ficke Field before sweeping the Super Regional on the campus of top-seeded Southern New Hampshire.

McCabe has been instrumental in creating several new positions in the department, beginning with the addition of a varsity women’s golf program and the hiring of Keith Ferrara as the first full-time strength and conditioning coach. In addition, the department created a new strength and conditioning center inside the Center for Recreation and Sports which features all the amenities required for a first-class program. Finally, in 2015, McCabe was chosen to begin a three-year term on the men’s basketball NCAA East Regional Advisory Committee and also serves on the ECAC Board of Directors. McCabe came to Adelphi from Hofstra University, where he was a part of the Pride Intercollegiate Athletic program for eight years, as Executive Associate Athletic Director. He played a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the department and in that role McCabe spearheaded Hofstra’s NCAA Certification process, and played a large role in developing and implementing the University’s five-year plan for athletics. He also served as the chairman of the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals Organizing Committee at Hofstra in 2009 and 2011.

In addition, McCabe served as the program administrator for the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, volleyball and the In the classroom, 12 student-athletes have been recognized as CoSida men’s soccer program and had oversight Capital One Academic All-District I Team responsibilities for the sports medicine and honorees, including five Academic Allstrength and conditioning departments. In 2015, MetLife Legacy Advisors became the title sponsor of Adelphi’s annual Fall Cocktail Reception, while MetroTeam Outfitters returned as Adelphi’s official gear sponsor and joined the roster of corporate partners as the title sponsor of the annual Ficke Golf Classic. The funds raised at these special events reached record levels, and membership in the Panther Club, the department’s major friend-andfundraising arm, also doubled in 2015 to nearly 800 members.
