2016 Viewing & Parking Alerts Crawford County - Stephan, Wakeley, and McMasters Bridges ~ will be closed to all vehicle traffic during the race. Spectator vehicles will not be allowed to cross the river at these points. Oscoda County - Paramalee Bridge ~ will be closed to spectators but passable to vehicles. No portable light will be available. If you are viewing the race from here, there are good sites along the campground on the north side or at the public access site on the south. Mio Dam* ~ Better viewing is available at the bottom of the dam on the fishing pier and across the river on the new fishing platform. Spectators will not be allowed on the spillway. There is a walkway from the MDOT parking lot, south of M 72, under the bridge to the dam. Spectators must stay clear of the pathway and the put-in area as the teams portage. McKinley Bridge ~ Spectators will not be allowed to stand on the bridge to watch the race. Please watch from the north or south sides of the river. 4001 Bridge ~ U.S. Forest Service may be issuing tickets for parking at the boat launch site without a valid parking pass. Alcona Dam* ~ The Bamfield Road bridge crossing the AuSable River at Alcona Dam is CLOSED! Spectators are to park and view the race from the East Side ("Glennie side") of the river. Feeders will use the alternate route supplied in your team's race packet. Only feeders will be allowed into the dam parking lot. Loud Dam* ~ Spectators are NOT allowed into Loud Dam. Spectators should go to Five Channels Dam. Feeder parking will be allowed on only one side of the road to prevent traffic congestion. 5 Channels Dam* ~ Pedestrians and vehicles will not be permitted on the new bridge, but spectators are allowed on the old bridge. Parking in the dam parking lot is for feeders only. Spectators can park in a large field at the top of the hill on the north side of the road. Cooke Dam* ~ Is open to spectators but no loitering is allowed while crossing the dam to the viewing area. Foote Dam* ~ Spectators will not be allowed on the dam but, spectators are encouraged to view the race on the new viewing platform. Only feeders will be allowed into the dam area. Whirlpool near Oscoda ~ Everyone must park in the parking lot and not in the boat launch. US Forest Service will be issuing tickets at this area. * Consumer Energy Properties No Alcoholic Beverages will be permitted. All coolers will be checked and beverages will be confiscated. Please be respectful of the people working security. They have been posted there because of Homeland Security rules and regulations.
