PARKING
When you arrive at Aurora Fjord Cabins please be advised that you cannot park directly outside but you can drive to them to unload your luggage. The road is VERY narrow and there is no turning space so you may have to reverse out. Once you have unloaded your luggage please park in the car park (near cabin 1 and the wind sock.) Please only use 1 space for your car and be mindful that others will need to park here too.
Please use your discretion in extreme and icy conditions as the road can be slippery. We do aim to clear the roads from snow regularly however as you can appreciate conditions can change quickly.
If you get into difficulties please contact your hire car company as they will be able to assist.
DEPARTURE INFORMATION
Please vacate the cabin before 10.30 am
Please load the dishwasher and turn it on
Please remove the bed linen and leave in the bathroom.
Please place your trash & recycling in the designated bins near cabin one.
EXTREME CONDITIONS
Obviously we are in the Arctic & the weather can change quickly. We do our best to keep the access road clear, however we can have a meters of snow fall in a few hours, so please be mindful to plan your journey as we can all get caught out on occastion
TOP TIP
On departure day ensure your car has been cleared from snow and has defrosted well. It can take at least 30 minutes to do this, so we suggest you build this in to your departure schedule.
We also suggest you park your car facing outwards, as it is easier to drive forwards on departure, rather than having to reverse out !
House Rules
We want you to feel at home, and as such ask that you please treat the cabin as you would your own home. We don’t have a long list of house rules, but please ask that you adhere to the following.
Please remove all outdoor footwear in the hallway. Skis, poles and other outdoor equipment are not permitted in the cabins, so please leave these outside. No smoking inside the cabin a deep cleaning fee will apply if this is not adhered to.
Please be mindful of our neighbours, this is a peaceful and tranquil spot and we want to keep it that way. Do not place sanitary items, nappies or other objects (other than toilet roll) into the toilet as we only have a septic tank and any costs incurred will be passed on to the guest/guests.
Cleaning We respectfully ask that you leave the cabin in a clean and tidy state. We do not expect a “deep clean” and want you to enjoy your holiday, however we do reserve the right to issue an excessive cleaning fee if needed. Excessive cleaning fees start at 300 NOK per hour.
STRICTLY NO Snow Spikes to be worn inside the cabins
Please DO NOT turn off the heating when you leave Thank you!
Dishwasher
Please DO NOT turn the little tap which is attached to the main tap in kitchen as this will isolate the water to dishwasher. If this dishwasher does not work this will be the reason.
Stove Top Safety Feature
Due to strict safety regulations here in Norway the cooker and stove top have a system built in that prevents fire. On occasion this may cause the cooker and stove to stop working. If this is case please take the following steps:
There is a little silver box above the stove top on the extractor hood. Try resetting this.
If this does not work: In the hallway there is a main fuse box, please turn off the fuse marked F3 VVB and this resets the stove, simply turn this off and on again and this will override the system.
All of the above usually sorts the problem.
Underfloor Heating
There is Underfloor heating in both the bathroom and hallway, it can take some time to heat up once it has been turned up. If it does not appear to be working please turn the dial all the way off and then on again,( you will hear it click) and this should reboot it.
Self Catering
Our cabins are fitted with everything you need for a self catering vacation and have a fully fitted kitchen which includes a dishwasher, microwave and oven. The Cabins are self catering so please bring any additional items needed with you, we do not supply shampoo, conditioner or other personal items, but toilet paper, dish washer tablets and dish soap are included. If you need more during your stay please contact us. We do not provide any additional food or condiment items (eg salt & pepper).
BED LINEN AND TOWELS
We provide bed linen and towels for the number of guests booked into the cabin.
HEATING
There is under floor heating in the bathroom and hallway. Please do not turn this off in winter (October to April) as its important that the cabins stay warm. There is also a airconditioner/warm air pump in the hallway which you can use to either heat or cool the cabins. There is a small fan in the living room which only circulates cold air.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
We are environmentally conscious here at Aurora Fjord Cabins so due to this we use recycled and natural ground water for the toilet. Due to this the water may appear discoloured, this is perfectly natural and does not mean it is not clean.
RECYCLING
We have glass, plastic and food containers situated near Cabin number 1. Please place your items in here. Drinks Cans and plastic bottles can be left in bags in the cabin when you leave.
Places to Eat & Drink
One of the beauties of Lyngen is that it's an undiscovered gem, one of the downsides with this is not having an abundance of restaurants and dining experiences. That's the way of the world, you cant have it all! But there are still some brave locals that have chosen to establish serving places, even though resident numbers are dropping and the scale is not tipping in their favour. Show these guys some love, starting a small business in the outskirts of Norway takes willpower and guts!

Emergency numbers
In Norway we operate with three different numbers depending on the emergency. Please try to remember these numbers or even better save them on your phone. In the case that you forget which number goes where, just call any of them! The operators on these lines have the ability to transfer you quickly to the correct department, so the most important thing is that you pick up the phone.
For situations that are not life threatening or do not require immediate attention you can call the department office for help or to book an appointment:

Avalanche Forecast
In Norway The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) publishes bulletins and forecasts, these are published according to international standards and follow the danger scale below.
Please remember though that the bulletins and forecasts are valid for a larger area and give general information about the avalanche conditions.
Use the alerts, data and maps at your own risk. It is subject to errors and omissions. A warning is an aid, not a fact. Always make your own reviews locally. The warnings are based on available observations and meteorological forecasts and apply at regional level. The relationships can be complex and differ from what has been notified, so please check!
In the case that you trigger an avalanche, please contact the police immediately and provide them with the details, even if nobody was caught in it! Rescue in Norway is free of charge and unnecessary operations are often started because the authorities don’t know whether someone was caught or not.
Take care!
Weather forecast
We have several forecast providers in Norway, but the most commonly used on is YR.NO Please remember though that weather in northern-Norway is infamously hard to predict, mainly due to a huge variation in the topography and polar lows, weather systems notorious for their unpredictability. So do not trust the forecasts a 100%, especially not several days in advance. The forecast for the day before though is usually fairly accurate!
Remember to always give yourself a window when planning your tours. You dont want to get caught in a blizzard whilst in high mountain terrain.
