SUMMER PROJECT 2025

23 JUNE 2025 – 01 AUGUST 2025

FOR CHILDREN FROM 2 TO 14 YEARS OF AGE

- FOR LEANERS FROM 2 TO 6 YEARS OF AGE -

A six-week immersive journey inviting children to engage with natural materials, fostering curiosity, sustainability, and artistic expression through weekly thematic chapters.

• CHAPTER 1: Encounters with Natural Materials - The Rhythm of Nature

Investigating, Researching, and Exploring Nature. In the first week of our summer project children will be invited to immerse themselves in the natural world around our school. This exploration will focus on understanding the language of natural materials—how they feel, look, and can be used creatively. Throughout this time together we will formulate connections, build a sustainable mindset and strengthen our relationship with the nature that surrounds us at Aurora.

• CHAPTER 2: Encounters with Wood - Listen to Wood Atelier

Our journey continues with wood as we explore the beauty of colour, texture, movement, line and space found in trees and ultimately wood. We shall see that a stick, a branch and a tree can change. Wood is everywhere but it also has a story.

• CHAPTER 3: Encounters with Paper - Reimagining Paper

A relationship with paper unveils its many possibilities. It can absorb, tear, fold, create sound and transform, demonstrating both its delicate nature and sturdy resilience. Paper communicates questions, possibilities, and playfulness, inviting children to explore and engage creatively. Throughout this week children will interact with and learn to appreciate its versatility and the unique qualities that make it an intriguing material for creativity, imaginative play and exploration.

• CHAPTER 4: Encounters with Textiles - Threads of Creativity

A relationship with textiles reveals a tapestry of creativity. Fabrics can stretch, drape, and transform, showcasing both their delicate textures and durable qualities. Weaving, sewing, and dyeing become avenues for exploration, enhanced by the interplay of light. Textiles communicate stories, possibilities, and playfulness, inviting children to engage in imaginative ways. Through this interaction, they learn to appreciate the versatility and unique characteristics of fabrics, making them an exciting medium for creative expression and sensory exploration

• CHAPTER 5: Encounters with Clay - Making Meaning

A relationship with clay reveals a world of creativity and possibility. This sustainable material can be molded, shaped, and transformed, highlighting both its pliable nature and enduring qualities. Clay communicates stories, possibilities, and playfulness, inviting children to engage their imaginations. Through these interactions, they learn to appreciate the versatility and unique characteristics of clay, making it an exciting material for artistic expression and exploration.

• CHAPTER 6: Encounters with Storytelling - Endless Possibilities

Children become storytellers, weaving together their experiences with nature, clay, paper, wood, and textiles. Each material serves as a chapter in their creative narrative, inviting them to express their adventures and discoveries. As they blend these elements, they unlock the power of storytelling, learning to convey emotions and ideas. This journey fosters their early literacy and imagination, encouraging them to see the world as a tapestry of stories waiting to be told.

A SUMMER CELEBRATION OF CREATIVITY AND EXPERIMENTATION

- FOR LEANERS FROM 7 TO 14 YEARS OF AGE -

This summer, Aurora eagerly invites young explorers aged from 7 to 14 to embark on an exciting 6-week journey of discovery, where wood becomes the ultimate canvas for creativity and learning. Throughout the project, learners will delve into the dynamic worlds of art, science, music, and performance, fostering critical thinking and hands-on creativity.

Why Wood Matters?

As learners build, sculpt, carve, and paint, they will not purely develop essential problem-solving skills but also gain a deeper appreciation for design, sustainability, and craftsmanship.

• CHAPTER 1 - CHAPTER 2 - CHAPTER 3: Structure Meets Art & Wood as a Canvas

Learners will have chances to build simple structures (towers, bridges, frames) while exploring balance, load-bearing, and stability. In addition, they will experiment with sanding, carving, and etching to create unique textures and abstract designs.

• CHAPTER 4 - CHAPTER 5 - CHAPTER 6: Sustainable Art & Symmetry in Design

Using recycled and eco-friendly materials to craft artistic and functional pieces while learning about sustainability will equip learners to explore geometry, symmetry, and balance by designing intricate patterns and sculptures that blend art with engineering.
