Embodying the spirit of the early twentieth century, August Sandgren’s legacy was revived upon the rediscovery of its original founder’s extraordinary craftsmanship. August Sandgren, renowned for supplying the Danish court, left behind patterns, materials, and tools that were reimagined to meet contemporary storage needs. Guided by our re-founder and owner Pia Kirkeskov Andersen’s vision, the company now pioneers the design and handcrafting of aesthetic storage solutions.

Our production ethos revolves around craftsmanship and the use of natural materials, including European Oekotex-certified leath er and premium surplus materials from esteemed European partners in the fashion and furniture industry. This approach, merged with our design philosophy of simplicity and functionality, enhances the longevity of our products and ensures both luxury and sustainability in every piece. The use of premium materials ensures that the patina of time only enhances the beauty of our objects.

Under Pia’s direction, modern-day August Sandgren stands on pillars of respect, loyalty, and longevity, fostering an environment of learning, tranquility, and creativity. Each endeavor is a collaborative effort, driven by our commitment to ongoing enhancement in design, waste reduction, and corporate ethos.

Craftsmenship and Sustainability

Our products are at the heart of what we do. Just like August Sandgren himself, who worked through the full product lifecycle from concept and design through to considerations of how the object would wear over time, we take steps regarding methods and materials to ensure that its beauty will always remain intact.

This concept of durability in design, craftsmanship and materials as well as longevity in functionality and aesthetics was at the heart of how August Sandgren operated then –and it remains the same today. With this mindset, our aim is to ensure that every object from August Sandgren lasts a lifetime and is crafted locally from naturally sourced materials. To us this is sustainability – as taught by a bygone era.

The Boxes

Boxes are at the core of our brand - perfect for storing, protecting and hiding your belongings. They make your mess look pretty.

Today, we offer three different box designs: The Box, The Magazineholder, and The Hexagonbox.

The Box: Originally designed by August Sandgren, this was our first aesthetic storage solution. It is versatile, suitable for both home and office, and ideal for organizing clutter of any size. The Box remains our best-selling product and comes in three sizes and multiple colours. A removable inlay, available separately, can divide the large box into smaller compartments.

The Magazineholder: Created by Anne Heinsvig with a unique twist by Oivind Slaatto around the strap and the button. This holder fits beautifully next to the sofa, armchair, or desk. It’s designed to fit most shelves, making it a great document organiser.

The Hexagonbox: A “con amore” box inspired by traditional patterned Asian cardboard hexagon boxes. It features an exclusive leather bottom and an elegant, padded, and patterned fabric top using Dedar’s magical fabrics. The result is a box you simply must have.

All boxes are crafted from exquisite aniline Oeko-Tex-certified leather. The Magazineholder uses surplus fabrics for the interior, while the Hexagonbox boasts luxurious Dedar fabrics on the exterior.

The Treasure Box

An alternative to traditional baby or child gifts, this treasure box is perfect for storing their precious keepsakes throughout life. The objects might change as they grow, but the box remains the same. It can be personalised with a name or initials for a lasting, personal gift.

Our trays were created in response to customer demand. While we believe that mess should be hidden away, some treasures deserve a beautiful, accessible place. The trays can be used as temporary storage solutions for objects that you need throughout the day or want on display, e.g., your watch while in the shower, your everyday jewels while sleeping or your magazines and art objects on the coffee table.

We offer two tray designs: The Serving Tray and The Tray.

The Serving Tray: Inspired by Asian serving trays, this design is simple and elegant, without handles, yet elevated for easy lifting. Available in rectangular and square sizes, it’s perfect for storing, framing, or presenting valuables, or serving cocktails, tea, or coffee.

The Tray: A classic object ideal for the hall or bedside table, or anywhere you need to store small valuables temporarily. It features rounded corners and a magnetic closure to lie flat when not in use.

The Jewelbox

Our storage objects for jewellery come in both stationary and transportable solutions to ensure you always have protection for your most treasured pieces.

The Jewelbox: A smaller version of The Box with a ring inlay, our Jewelbox is elegant yet simple, a true Danish design object for the modern, cool, yet feminine woman. It is made from exquisite aniline Oeko-Tex-certified leather, with beautiful colour combinations by award-winning Danish colour designer Margrethe Odgaard.

Jewel-on-the-go: A transportable solution for your jewellery, whether travelling or when out and about. The beautiful pouch, designed in collaboration with The Jewellery Room, is a pragmatic and functional solution. It is crafted from exceptional Duet leather, with one side in soft nubuck and the other in rustic suede.A jewellery box for men, perfect for storing cufflinks, rings, bracelets, etc. Ideal for the walk-in closet, bedside table, or bathroom.

Co-created with watch connoisseur Kristian Haagen, our Watch collection consists of both stationary and transportable solutions for your wristwatches.

The Watchbox: A box for collectors of exquisite wristwatches who appreciate craftsmanship, simplicity, and quality. With nothing left to coincidence, every detail is thought out for the ultimate protection of your watches. Available in a large size for nine watches and a small size for three watches.

Watch-on-the-go: A transportable solution for your watches when traveling or for momentary storage needs like in the gym. The functional pouch is crafted from the softest Oeko-Tex-certified aniline leather and holds up to three watches.

Fabric - Limited Edition

Our Limited Edition collection features fabrics chosen by designers we admire alongside fabrics that we simply just love. Current designers include Josephine A Hoffmeyer (File Under Pop), Thomas Lykke (OEO design studio), Kjellerup Vaeveri, (the last weaving mill in Denmark), and Rohleder (German fabric manufacturer).

From Josephine’s choice of a beautiful fabric from Italian Dedar to Thomas’s choice of an incredible Hosoo fabric, to Kjellerup’s and Rohleder’s own exquisite fabrics, every edition is entirely its own. The limited editions are available until sold out, with new editions added annually.

The Limited Edition collection includes The Bookbox medium, The Bookbox fusion, The Jewelbox (large and small), and The Keyring, though not all designs are available for each object.

Our on-the-go collection is not an entry into the broader handbag market—many other brands do handbags better than we do. We stay within simple and elegant storage, and we have therefore developed our on-the-go assortment following the same philosophy of simplicity, functionality, and aesthetics as our more stationary storage objects. The Desk Set was developed in response to customer demand for an elegant, simple desk storage collection. It includes a desk mat, penholder, medium box, and paper bin, all made from aniline Oeko-Tex-certified leather.

The Table Setting Set

The Darling, a stunning boutique guest house in Copenhagen, hosts dinner parties and other events that are simply beyond belief. When they asked us to develop a table setting set together to organise dinnerware, cutlery, and glasses, we eagerly agreed. Although this project is somewhat outside our usual focus on storage, the result is a stunning addition to our collection.

With no stitches and laser-thin but stable solutions for the placemat and the coaster, The Table Setting Set follows the same design philosophy as our other objects: timelessness, functionality, and elegance. The set consists of a placemat, a napkin ring, and a coaster, all made from the softest Oeko-Tex-certified leather in a warm and elegant tobacco.

Other Objects

Occasionally, we craft objects that don’t fit into our usual categories but still provide storage solutions. Currently, this includes a photo album and a Kleenex holder.

The Photobook: Simple and beautiful, it is perfect for a modern home, and serves as a personalised keeper of your most important printed memories, ensuring they never crumple or fade. We can deboss text, names, logos, or monograms into the leather on the front of the album to make it extra personal. The photo album is A4 in size, allowing any A4 paper to be added. This way, you can have as many or as few photos stored in the album, and you can always add or remove memories.

The Kleenex Holder: Our version of this well-known object is simple and without stitches, leaving a very elegant and clean finish. The holder fits the standard

Surplus Leather Collection

Our surplus philosophy allows us to offer even higher-quality leather objects at the same price point using surplus materials from the European furniture and fashion industry. Currently, our surplus collection is all black, ensuring consistent quality. Almost every object in our assortment is available in our surplus collection, offering you an even more sustainable option for our objects. Objects in this collection may vary slightly in grain and tone, featuring small, nearly invisible natural marks, but always made from the highest standard of either aniline or semi-aniline leather. This collection is aptly named “perfectly imperfect.”
