Game On July!

Stay Cool! Augusta maintains cooling shelters within several Recreation and Parks buildings across the county. These sites are available during times of extreme temperatures so that citizens may take shelter from the extreme conditions.

Since 1985, Americans have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote the importance of parks and recreation in health and wellness, conservation and social equity, and to recognize the thousands of park and recreation employees that maintain our nation’s local, state and community parks. This July, the Augusta, Georgia Recreation and Parks Department is

Heat-related Illnesses The human body is normally able to regulate its temperature through sweating, until it is exposed to more heat than it can handle. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can escalate rapidly, when in doubt about a Heat-related injury or illness, call 911!

Heat Stroke Seek medical help immediately if someone is suffering from heat stroke. Signs include:  Body temperature above 103 degrees  Skin that is flushed, dry and hot to the touch; sweating has usually stopped  Rapid breathing  Headache, dizziness, confusion or other signs of altered mental status  Irrational or belligerent behavior  Convulsions or unresponsiveness

People most at risk include:  Infants and young children, especially if left in hot cars  People 65 and older  People who are ill, have chronic health conditions or are on certain medications Immediately take action:  People who are overweight  Call 911  Move the victim to a cool place  Remove unnecessary clothing Heat Exhaustion  Immediately cool the victim, preferably by immersing up to the neck in cold water (with the help of a second rescuer) When the body loses excessive water and salt, usually due to  If immersion in cold water is not possible, place the victim sweating, heat exhaustion can occur. Cooling Shelters! Augusta maintains and operates heating and cooling shelters across Richmond County. Not all shelters are open at all times for use as a shelter but are opened based on the needs of the community. Always confirm if a facility is open before seeking shelter. What happened in June? Mudbugabeaux-N-Brew The Augusta Common was the host location for the annual Mudbugabeaux-N-Brew Festival.

Candlelight Music Series The Candlelight Music Series on Sunday nights at the Augusta Common has started on May 5th and is off to a great start. Every Sunday until September 1st, there will be a concert at the Augusta Common.

GRPA State Softball / Baseball Tournaments Augusta, Georgia hosted the 2019 GRPA State Junior Boys Baseball Tournaments for U12 and U14, as well as the GRPA State Junior Girls Fast Pitch Softball Tournament U14.

Summer Concert Series The first concert of the Summer Concert Series was on June 15th with “The Hounds of Goshen Band”. The Summer Concert Series is held at the 8th Street River Stage.

Augusta Pride For their 10th anniversary, Augusta Pride celebrated Pride month at the Augusta Common with “Beats on Broad”, the Pride parade and the Pride Festival.

Movies on the Common “How To Train Your Dragon - The Hidden World” was this month’s movie under the starts. Every last Friday during summer, we show a free movie at the Augusta Common.

Volunteer Work at Pendleton King Park

A group of volunteers has beatified the hydrangea garden at Pendleton King Park with the hydrangeas in full bloom.


Independence Day Celebration We have been wondering what we could add to our Independence Day Celebration at the Augusta Common to make it even more fun. So this year, we have a Ferris wheel, and live entertainment, and food vendors, crafts, merchandise, inflatables, and much more. At 9:30pm we’ll start the fireworks. Augusta Market on the River

Candlelight Music Series

Every Sunday night, the Augusta Common turns into a recreational lawn. The Candlelight Music Series is the best way to get the week started! Community Pool Party

Pickleball Social
