Fashion Avenue South In Collaboration with Neha Manikal Fall 2020 Located between 29th and 30th Streets on 7th Avenue, this project celebrates the historic area that was the fashion district. Comprised of three towers, a hotel, office/manufacturing, and dorms, the project welcomes visitors and residents to the area. Project creats a gateway along 7th Avenue which connects the fashion schools Parsons (North Campus) and Fashion Institute of Technology. Additionally, it provides entrance to the new development area of the Manhattan West construction and new Penn Station.

The project is composed of three towers: residental, manufacturing and exposition, and hotel. Placing the footprints of each building wind through existing buildings and push through from 29th to 30th streets, split by the famed 7th Avenue. The plans above depict the ground level and terrace level of the buildings

to demonstrate the importance of public space. Because New York is dense with pedestrian traffic, we felt compelled to allow the public to be able to circulate through the towers and lounge at various levels, rather than create private spaces beyond the entry levels.

The undulating facade of buildings interecept 7th Avenue to create a gateway to the direct gazes northward to the historic Garment District.

The importance of fashion culture and the historical prowess of it is reminiscent throughout the project. Taking notes from Christian Dior’s New Look SITE, the towers themself cinch at the “waists”. These moments of compression house space for public gathering, bring pedestrians above studio, gallery, and manufacturing space to experience Fashion Avenue from a new perspective. The ground and basement level of the building provide space for exposition and runway space.

Balloons Over Water Experiencing Florida’s Aquifer Fall 2019

The Florida Aquifer is a constant flowing body of water which feeds lakes, rivers, and underground reservoirs. It is an inexplicable being which makes space for itself below ground level mostly unnoticed and unseen. This project is the mediator between the

invisible and visible. As the ground below a hot air balloon begins to disapate and blend into a see of colors to the occupants, the aquifer only reveals so much of itself as one visits the Florida Springs and rivers.

The act of traveling in a hot air balloon is the inverted mirror of the aquifer. Much like floating down a river, one is unable to experience the underground experience of the aquifer’s tunnels. While the water is flooded above ground to fill the rivers and lakes, we are unable to see all of the water. Much like in a hot air balloon, one is able to experience

the moment they are floating, but the ground is often too far away and blurry to understand fully what is below. The importance of experiential light as seen through screens within the prairies.

The design and development of the senior studio project began with research of the craft of weaving.

Weaving is one of the oldest forms of “art” as people used it to create shelter, clothing, and wall tapestries.

Weaving exists at a scale which is not inheriently architectural, so how

can one transform this craft into an inhabitable thing? Through studies of various weaving techniques and styles, our focus began drifting toward the study of indiviudal knots.

How can we affect the scale of a single loop of weaving to become an act of architecture?

Unit level studies of various weaving techniques.

Studies of light through different materials, densities, depths of looms.

Large scale studies of weaving techniques both 2-Dimensionally and 3-Dimensionally.

Gainesville Arts Museum Spring 2020

Located in downtown Gainesville, the arts center brings to life an otherwise gravel parking lot. The surrounding areas are home to various boutique style restaurants and coffee shops as well as a nearby ampitheatre park.

The fillagree exterior speaks to teh natural springs and parks throughout the city which have become lost in the growth of the town.

Winter Park Public Library Spring 2020

The city of Winter Park is highly constructed around it’s strong community. The combined library and plaza project intend to expand community enrichment through public forum and retreat. While libraries are public buildings by nature, the occupants are usually visiting while trying to find privacy and quiet. In order to create

a new public library for Winter Park while respecting the often silent and solo act of reading, the primary public space and function of the building was lifted from the first floor in order to provide the necessary escape from sometimes busy Downtown Winter Park.

Currently, downtown Winter Park lacks a nature of public accesability. An overwhelming amount of up-scale casual dining and boutiques crowd the area. The public park does not have any welcoming ability as it is surrounded by these moments of privacy that a paid facility has. A public library would bring back the historic nature of the public park as a moment of entry to Winter Park.

The east edge of the plaza runs perpendicular to the edge of the entry space of the library. By uncentering the edges of the park and building. The public is pulled from the heavy traffic road of Park Avenue North as well as the surrounding shopping and dining facilities. The steal façade and structure reflect the historic railroad while the copper tones elude the

the extensive masonry work of the town and masonry constructed road of East New England Avenue in between the Plaza and Library. The boundary of the plaza, road, and library entrance become blurred through extended pavings to create a symbiotic conntection between the plaza and building

Iceberg Bar Cart

In collaboration with Ryan VanMiddlesworth This project explored the possiblities of the capabilities of design in Rhino inconjunction with the Grasshopper plug-in. Through digitial fabrication, we developed a wall mounted bar cart. Containing internal storage for standard sized bottles, ice bucket, and wine opener along with a flat top surface to allow space for mixing cocktails or storing more items.

The form examines the prinicple nature of an iceberg, exposing the network of contours that create the floating masses.

Traditioinally, a bar cart is home to multiple glasswares, bottles, cocktail sets, and whatever else the owner desires. The intent of this “cart” was a more dynamic piece on the wall. Fitting and justifying each contour to create a cohessive face was vital to the design and craft of the

structural integrity of the unit. The various pieces work in groups to create pockets of depth for bottles and an ice chest to sit within the frames of wood. Much like an iceberg, the crafted wood piece holds more than meets the eye, hiding bottle and bucket depth within the composition.

The proposed bus stop at Norman Hall provides shelter for the existing stop. Extrapolating the form of a person, the bench undulates from exposed to covered seating to allow users to sit where they please.

At what point can you take an object that you know so well and use so often and transform it into something unrecognizable yet explicitly the original object? This wine opener takes a transformative journey through space. It becomes a landing platform for whomever lives in the small house on the hill, allowing them to have a base in order to return to earth. The drawing further

analyzes the many ways in which the wine opener can be viewed. As it lays in the drawer waiting to open another bottle, the frame in which the arms rest as they lift with twists of the spiral into another cork. How far does the “head” of the bottle opener move from the body as it is pushed into another bottle?
