ICE PAV I L L I O N

Summer Semester 2019 Landscape & Tectonics Studio Individual project 2 week duration

Using the concept of tectonics, ice pavilion is a two part structure involving a plinth and pavilion of approximately 30,000 cubic feet, to house a 1,000 cubic foot ice sculpture. The heaviness of the plinth establishes a clear juxtaposition between the pavillion and the ground portion of the project in order to highlight the delicate qualities of the wood tectonic. The intent of this design was to provide protection for the sculpture from external factors that accelerate melting of the ice as well as a viewing sequence allowing circulation for people to interact with the sculpture. The wood tectonic consisted of an established base unit in a bent diamond shape which then allowed for a natural process of forming the agregating pavillion in a geometric formation.

Working with the parameters of designing and building in a historic district within the city of Cincinnati, students were to work in groups in order to design a multi-unit housing complex. Located within the West End district of the city, and across from the new FC Cincinnati Soccer Stadium, the project was to include retail and restaurant spaces for tourists and patrons as well as residents for the site. This project in particular included an outdoor courtyard space, a study or co-working space, and also a complex gymnasium.

The design of this singular building was established with the influence of repetitive unit types, potential views, and the distribution of public and private spaces for the development.

Fall Semester 2021 Ludic Spaces Studio

With a focus on creating an urban scale project for ludic spaces, this design proposes a conversion of Cincinnati’s abandoned underground railway system into an underground park/museum for the community of downtown Cincinnati to utilize. Through the intersection of ephemeral memory, and existing history, this project works to highlight the existing architecture of the subway while also vizualizing the tunnels’ history from conception, construction, and use throughout World War II. With the use of lighting installations and public programming, this adaptive reuse conversion breathes new life to a previously underutilized space that once served a large part of Cincinnati’s untold history.

Summer Semester 2019 Landscape & Tectonics Studio Individual project 2 week duration

Serenity and sequence were the major design factors that drove the organization of space that became the ritual garden. A site slope of 15 degrees required a creative solution to provide the park with a path of occupation and circulation. Terraces were each assigned a primary function of entry, meditation, privacy, activity, and overlook. These primary spaces are held together with a centralized axis of circulation, with varying widths of stairs that serve as a control for the level of occupation of each space. The wider staircases indicate a direct path for major circulation to larger spaces, while the smaller stairs imply less room for occupation in the meditation and private spaces.

ROW HOUSE

Spring Semester 2020 Urban Design Studio Individual project 4 week duration

Located in the Pendleton neighborhood of downtown Cincinnati, this housing project focused on an in-fill site for a modernized row house.

The primary goal was to create a house consisting of two units; one being the main house, and the other being an apartment or in-law suite. With a primary focus on an interior courtyard to let in light to both units, the house opens up to interlocking interior spaces divided by balconies to allow for safe occupation. Having the in-law suite located at the back with a seperate entrance from the main house allows for the unit to also serve as a rented apartment.

Summer Semester 2019 Midwestern Design Studio Individual project 6 week duration

With a specific focus on the health and wellness of the two communities that were to share this project, the pool house looked to create a communal center for the residents of Over-the -Rhine and Mount Auburn, in Cincinnati, Ohio. This design focused on the creation of a neighborhood space that encouraged bettering the health of its citizens with specific programming of theraputic pools and saunas.

The pool house was designed to be set into a hill, which cconsists of a stacked form of programs and occupiable terraces for more outdoor space. This specific portion of the site is surrounded by trees, which are implemented into the project to create a sense of enclosure and refuge from the surrounding city. This also draws upon Cincinnati master plans calling for an increase in urban tree canopy.

PUBLIC SCHOOL 1 2 6 M AN H AT TAN

Spring Semester 2019 Nelligan White Architects Drawing and Submission Work

As a part of my time spent at an internship with Nelligan White Architects, I was put on a project for the Public School 126 Manhattan. The intention of this project was to thoroughly document the school and to then design new updates to the gymnasium, auditorium, and the north facade. My role within the project team was to draw the existing interior conditions for the demolition floor plans (in Auto- CAD). I also worked on modeling the newly designed elevation of the building for the project proposal (in Rhino and V-Ray), and participated in putting together the School Construction Authority submission and submittal work for this project as well.

PUBLIC SCHOOL 277 BRONX

Spring Semester 2019 Nelligan White Architects Drawing and Submission Work

Another project with Nelligan White Architects, Public School 277 Bronx is a historic renaissance revival school building that required a cleaning of the façade. My role on this project was predominantly administrative, as I was the one who organized and binded the submission work for the School Construction Authority of New York City. Even though I did a lot of the administration work for this project submission, I also had a role in working on redlines for the front facade drawing (in Auto- CAD).

Fall Semester 2019 Childress & Cunningham Architects Surveying and Drawing

This project was done during my second co-op semester with Childress & Cunningham. This proposal included my involvement with surveying the site, creating the base drawings of the existing structure, and blocking out the proposed unit options. Using a historic and abandoned warehouse in Newport, Kentucky, the goal for Childress and Cunningham was to create a conversion project that split the existing structure into six seperate apartment units for renting.

The TEDxUCincinnati mainstage event theme for the year 2021 was Renaissance. As a Design Chair, I worked as part of a three person team to come up with the branding for the entire event, and provide marketing materials such as announcements, flyers, speaker announcements, and additional marketing content for social media. The theme announcement reads: “Renaissance is an amalgamation of talents, all born from the minds of multitalented individuals. That is what we seek to represent with our annual event: outline the “renaissance person” as they have evolved in the landscape of the twenty-first century. We are calling on them to share their ideas.”

Hand sketching and drawing have always been a consistent part of my creative process. I would consider myself to be an analog person and my ability to hand draft allows me to explore and work though my design problems more efficiently. This collection of works encompasses my sketching, drawing, and hand-drafting abilities. I enjoy incorporating these methods of representation into my projects on occasion and use them alongside my digital work.
