Spotlight Earth With climate change an important topic, Lil Dicky has put together this musical creation to highlight the importance of the planet’s wellbeing with the ‘We Love The Earth’ campaign. The song features a plethora of artists including Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, Adam Levine, Shawn Mendes and John Legend, all shown as animal characters referring to the various species of the Earth. It shares the message of all diversities, together as one, being kind to each other and the planet we share.

Do What Moves You BACARDÍ have recently launched the motivational campaign together with the wonderful motto: If it’s a floor, it’s a dance floor. The spirits brand look into the UK music industry and find out what moves artists Giggs, Stefflon Don & Bugzy Malone. Astronata 2019 sees the launch of the brand new experimental artists from Ukraine, whereby artistic imagery meet a fascinating dimension of sound. The duo is comprised of singer/songwriter Nata Smirina and producer Ilya Misura. Though this is a new project for the pair, they both have a long musical history. Nata is well-known as the vocalist for pop band Pur:Pur with which she has represented the country twice in the Eurovision Song Contest. In addition, Nata sings in the modern dance group KOOQLA. Ilya is also a part of the bass music production identity Dub Beans from Russia. Having just released their debut single ‘BeLoved’, Astronata talk to us about their project… Tell us about yourself and your musical background. Nata: I’m a singer and songwriter without any musical education. I’ve learned singing all by myself surfing the internet and digging different lessons and video schools. For me music is the way of understanding things and communicating with the outer world, and first of all I appreciate honesty and straightforwardness in it. This approach brought me to performing my own songs on stage in 2008. Since then I can’t imagine myself without singing and writing.

I’ve started with rock music, as it usually happened with guys of that time, but later I’ve become interested in Dark Electro, and it was my first step into the limitless world of electronic music. I’ve been producing Hardcore, Dub, Nu Disco, Tropical Bass for many years. Now I’ve concentrated all my experience in bass music that allows me to mix down everything I have in my head into something original and interesting, but still powerful and uplifting. You have a very distinctive voice. It may not be true, but I hear some folk embellishments in it. What bands, singers, influenced you? Nata: Thanks. I grew up on the perfectness and soulful singing of Ella Fitzgerald. A bit later I met the diabolic sadness of Janis Joplin’s voice. Then there was Norah Jones’ tenderness and, thanks to the internet, I’ve discovered many other singers who inspired me to self-knowledge and experiments. But the main thing - honesty and message was always the key for me. I think that only truly opened hearts can open other people’s hearts. Your debut single “BeLoved” is out now, let us know the inspirations behind this song.

Nata: This track has a beautiful story of creation. Ilya rarely shared his feelings and emotions with anyone – he put everything into his music. We began to chat in February 2018 when Ilya suggested my collaboration on his track, and in June we totally realized that we Ilya: I’ve been performing as a keyboard could not live without each player and producing music since 2007. 12

other. Each of us had our own relationships, and we couldn’t imagine what to do with all this love... it seemed to us very inappropriate. We haven’t even met in real life. So Ilya put all his feelings into music and sent the first version to me. His message was so powerful so I wrote a vocal part that perfectly merged with the music. This track didn’t fit for either Pur:Pur or Dub Beans, that’s why Ilya decided to give it to me for my solo project. As an answer I proposed him to make Astronata together... He said yes :) There are some interesting things going on in the track musically. Ilya, tell us where did you get the ideas for this particular song? Ilya: This track has been started while I was jamming in my studio. Sometimes I just play some improvisations on piano – it’s the easiest way to put down my emotions into music, because I’ve been playing piano since I was 4. The main piece of this song that you can hear at the beginning is just a short part of such an improvisation. Later I’ve decided to mix this familiar thing with something new for me, and Juke/ Footwork music was the first that came to my mind. A month before I wrote the first version of BeLoved, I finished my first Footwork EP for my project Dub Beans, and was still very impressed by this important moment of my life. This experience helped me to concentrate on musical and emotional flow instead of technical issues of the style. That’s why I’ve reached miscellaneous and rich sound with minimal amount of instruments.

14

You are also a team member of Ukrainian band called Pur:Pur. As I know you wrote most of the lyrics for the Pur:Pur band. What about your solo project Astronata? Was it you who wrote lyrics for “Beloved”? Nata: That’s true. I don’t sing any lyrics not written by me. And I wrote lyrics for KOOQLA - another project I took part in with TYOMA. Also I write for movies and cartoons... And of course I write all the Astronata texts. I love singing about myself, telling my own story without twisting the truth, straight from the heart. In Pur:Pur I write in three languages: English, Russian and Ukrainian. The music and songs are rather soft and romantic there. In Astronata we have very strong emotional messages, naked feelings, it’s all about us and is very personal. It’s only in English by this moment, but I thought it would’ve been cool to write something also in Ukrainian. I’ve never heard good examples of immersing this language into a bass music. I know you took part in Eurovision National Final 2018 with Pur:Pur. Tell us about your experience and your thoughts regarding the refusal of Ukraine to participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Nata: It’s an interesting experience. In Ukraine most of musicians who participate in this contest take it as a promo platform for their new tracks and have no interest in winning at all. Some of them even hope to lose! It’s like a huge underground television live festival where you can meet big Ukrainian stars or completely newborn

projects. It’s a shame that MARUV wasn’t allowed to represent our country. I know Anya personally, she is from Kharkiv like me btw, and I believe she’d be very successful if she attended. But there were very strange claims from National Social Broadcasting Company of Ukraine laid to her and she was forced to refuse. As to Ukraine’s refusal to participate in EV contest at all, I think it was one more chance to remind the world that there’s a war taking place on our territory and to draw attention to how fragile peace is.

Asya Tumasyan and motion artist Matthew Hunter. Matthew is working on 3D-animated video for “BeLoved”, and soon we’ll be happy to present it. Relationship with Asya is much more complicated. She’s shooting a music video for our next single “Pain”, and we’re making a soundtrack for her movie, and we hope we’ll be able to release this soundtrack as an EP. But we’re not planning to stay in web only - we have a lot of ideas for live shows, and we’ve already started to realise them. Both of us have big experiences in performing lives, so we’re passionate about it and going to complete the beauty of our music with visual and artistic elements. __________________________________ https://linktr.ee/astronatamusic www.facebook.com/astronataofficial

We were afraid of our feelings. But we’re not anymore. Don’t be afraid of love. Don’t be afraid to do the first move. Don’t refuse your true self. Sometimes all we have to do is try.

What are your future plans for Astronata? Shall we expect new releases and music videos? Ilya: Now we’re collaborating with very talented people: director and clipmaker

FINAL CITP!! SVEN VATH ANNOUNCES THE LAST EVER COCOON IN THE PARK As they say, all good things must come to an end… but, even the most hardcore realist would take this announcement and wish it were not true. For after 11 glorious years the hills of Temple Newsam, Leeds for one very last time will play host to Cocoon In The Park. This particular part of Yorkshire will be left with memories that’d leave one lost in their reveries. Who can forget mind-blowing sets from industry heavyweights such as Adam Beyer, Richy Ahmed & Joseph Capriati in 2017 or the first CITP in 2008 when Sven Vath kicked the affair off with Luciano, Steve Bug & Adam Shelton. 2015 was the year that Chilean maestro Ricardo Villalobos, after Carl Cox musically lit the sky on fire, went b2b with Sven Vath and decided to p**** off the whole crowd and play the same song for 15 minutes. Somewhat synonymous in the UK for its iconic format of one day, one night and one stage, CITP will be guaranteed to pull out all the stops to commemorate the occasion. COCOON IN THE PARK 13 JULY 2019 TEMPLE NEWSAM, LEEDS, UK The very last CITP will see first time appearances from superstar of the moment Peggy Gou and Fuse stalwart Rich NXT. As Fuse has always been a part of this, it was only right to have Fuse label boss Enzo Siragusa join the party. Prime time northern soul Patrick Topping has been whopping the ball home in most continents and he’ll be joined on the line up by another returning joy in Edible Eats boss Eats Everything. Drumcode Records artist Alan Fitzpatrick will bring his luminous sound to the show which will no doubt be closed by Sven Vath himself, with what should be one heck of a memorable set. www.cocooninthepark.com

THINGS THAT MAKE ME

SMILE.

Eastern Traditional Healing & Veganism vs Western Medicine and the Effects on our Body & Mind Note: This article contains sensitive discussion on mental health. Eastern Traditional healing is a natural way to eliminate sickness from your body rather than Western medicine which is a propaganda-based advertisement of medicine to fill your body and supposedly make you better. For many centuries people from Africa, and beyond have solely depended on traditional medicine, remedies and healers for treatment of all types of disorders, including those related to mental health. Even today, the use of traditional healing is common, despite the introduction of modern drugs, they still prefer and use these techniques passed down from centuries before them. Rather than Western medicine, using a combination of ingredients some of which we have no idea what they are, Eastern traditional healing which has been used for centuries allows you to focus more on your body and mind for healing and using natural ingredients found day to day, alongside the crystal healing element also to help you feel better. Germs and bacteria don't make you unwell - they merely find a breeding ground in a body and manifest. It's easier for these to manifest in a negative body and mind, therefore being a perfect breeding ground to cause illness and sickness. Alongside this veganism and going vegan is also a massive body cleanser and healer in itself because, by going vegan, you are ridding your body of all the toxins and other things found in food which aren’t necessarily naturally sourced. By being a vegan myself I've detoxed my body naturally and healthily and my body is now a clear vessel for good energy to manifest through, rather than my old body being a vessel of bad toxins and bad food followed by bad energy and negative thoughts - not allowing any good energy or healing to come through, therefore allowing the negative and bad bacteria to attract and manifest in my body making me sick. I, myself, don't personally believe in filling my body with medications nor do I with my daughter. Centuries before us, even now in some cultures, they didn't and don't have all the new medicines advertised for example: Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, antipsychotics, or nausea medication. They have natural healing remedies as do we in the modern generation, but because of the pharmaceutical company 20

www.AudationMagazine.com

being a billion-pound industry, we are led to believe that ‘fast-acting' and ‘straight to the source of pain' painkillers are the answer. Did you know naturally sourced remedies are everywhere? For example a stinging nettle sting can be easily healed with a leaf; or an upset stomach can be calmed with camomile tea; and nausea can be soothed with ginger. Even bad skin can be soothed with natural ingredients like honey and mud rather than expensive and on-the-market products which are filled with chemicals and other ingredients, and most of which are tested on animals. We as a society are led to believe, and are sucked in with advertisements, that we need all these painkillers and fast-acting medicines. But little do people know, the more regular you take these tablets for whatever reason - a headache, insomnia or migraines - your body becomes immune to them and after a while they stop working, and it becomes a placebo effect that we believe they are helping but they aren't. Whatever happened to laying in a dark room for a migraine rather than reaching for pills? Did you know our bodies are designed to align, and when we get sick it's our only job to realign our body the way it should be? Getting sick and being sick, our job then is to align our body back to its original state ready for the healing process to begin, and with this comes being aware of what you think, feel and say which can impact your healing and alignment. When we get sick, or when we are unwell, we will often naturally think negatively about this rather than positively. Take for example a war veteran, or a young man in the army who lost limbs, arms, and legs. When this happens, you have 2 choices: you can sit and think negatively about the limb you've lost, and allow your negativity to wear your mind and body down or you can see a positive side to it‌ You may have lost an arm but you are still alive and are still breathing on this earth, and when you change your way of thinking in a situation like that, or when you are sick, your body will start to represent the positive vibes and you'll find your recovery and healing to be quicker. When you get sick the best thing you can do is accept the illness, accept the sickness rather than reject it because by suppressing it and rejecting it you are then going to make yourself more sick and will block the energy of healing to flow through you also by rejecting your illness it will cause great stress to your body also which will add a longer recovery time for yourself. When you accept the illness, you are also allowing the positive healing to flow through rather than blocking it with negative thoughts regarding your sickness. Rather than saying "Why am I sick?" and becoming a victim to it - accept it, and understand it and allow the healing to start through your body. Acceptance is 21

key in this instance because by accepting it, you will become stronger in parts of you that were once before weak and you'll also allow yourself to live a happier life than before you got sick. Instead of feeling ashamed you are sick, and feeling weakened by the embarrassment you feel, you should feel empowered by it and not hide away with it because by empowering it, you will then give yourself a stronger sense of healing and you are also allowing a stronger flow of energy to come through your body. You are one step closer to understanding why you are sick. Even when we get sick, we often see our bodies as an enemy - something that has betrayed us and let us down, which it hasn't. Our body is on our side, and is there to help us, not be against us. When we choose to view our body as the enemy we ourselves are killing it, by viewing it negatively and badly we kill our bodies with our own thoughts against it. Suicidal thoughts are also closely connected to the negative thoughts we have, however it's not our body that wants to commit suicide it's our own thoughts and by channeling these thoughts and changing how we think, will determine the damage we cause our bodies. Our bodies don't try to kill themselves with toxins, we do by filling ourselves with toxins and negative thoughts. So by re-thinking, we can change the damage we could cause on our own bodies. By being Ill, our body is getting our attention to allow us to redirect our life into a new direction than the one we was in before. Our own mind, our own thoughts and actions are what cause our bodies to go through trauma. We as human beings have a choice what we feed our bodies in terms of food, drink and drugs. Also by who we allow into our lives also affects our body and mind, I.e allowing negative people into your life can in fact cause you to get sick because they are filling you with negative thoughts, which will of course weaken your mind and therefore not allow the good energy to flow through you. We only get one body and most people abuse that body and don't look after it, by looking after it and maintaining it like you would a plant, we ourselves can nurture our bodies and health. Rather than Western medicine advertising numerous medicines and ways to feel healthy with tablets and supplements, try eliminating those and focus on positive healing and positive thoughts because only then will the energy flow through a clear positive vessel rather than a toxin-filled medicated body.

22

www.AudationMagazine.com

Choosing to go vegan for myself was the right decision. My body feels cleaner and detoxed, I don't feel the toxins and chemicals running through my body anymore but I feel natural, and lighter and healthier. Plant-based food and healing is lighter and less harsh on my body, and I myself want to nurture my body for as long as possible and I want to respect my body and what I feed it with both food and thoughts. Music is also a massive healer, little do people know, and can help and heal people. Research, studies and personal experience working with dementia patients, proved to me that despite the copious amounts of medication they were fed daily, music played a big part with them on a day-to-day to basis and even triggered memories for them which dementia kills. Listening to music, eating food, is all much like the weather‌ For example, when the weather is bad we don't feel positive, or happy, we feel sluggish, and down. Music and food has the same affect - if you listen to a sad song, or eat bad food it's not going to impact your mood in a positive way. Much like how our own mind impacts our mood; positive energy, healing and thoughts will make for a positive and happy you. I'll leave you all with a quote from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi which I love and, alongside it, I send you all good vibes and love.

"Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower and draws all good things towards you.

Jessie

A melange of excitement, courage and desire. Don’t be afraid to give your heart away. The thrilling sense of spontaneous passion rushes in. The modern dance production holds a moody, somewhat naughty undertone with the dark hint of bass. Italian Tech House duo Proudly People, proudly step up to the plate for the 36th release on Blackflag Recordings offering up 3 solid, groove-driven bombs. Known for producing groovy rhythmic patterns, the boys from Italy did not disappoint when releasing on Stacey Pullen’s imprint. The 3 track EP entitled “Time Up EP” is truly made for the dancefloor with an array of cleverly situated vocal snippets tightly knitted into the grooves of the basslines. Title track “Time Up” plays out with some prominent hi-hats and snares amongst a b-line that sings a groove throughout. “Stray Bullet” comes with a slightly different feel but the rubbery bass is still hard-hitting, and the accompanying sounds give the track a somewhat skippy feel, perfect for the moment. My personal favourite track of the EP has to be the final track “Mind Blown”. Straight from the intro, I’m immediately enticed by the feel of the groove and the sound of the hats. The driving groove of the bassline tickles me all over and the simplicity of the different vocal samples throughout make this a quality track. www.soundcloud.com/proudlypeople 28

obsessed.” They’ve been supporters, even today!

Originally from Michigan, USA, at an early age she booked a one-way ticket to New York - the city of dreams - with a high ambition to make it big. In a whirlwind of adventures, Paytra is now living the dream with a strong footing in the music and acting fields.

You took a huge leap of faith at a young age to pursue your dreams in the big apple, can you tell us a little about this journey?

Her notable work include performances for New York Fashion Week, Disney World and Memory Motel Montauk; TV appearances for MTV as well as Law and Order: Special Victims Unit; and radio specials on The Beat and Sirius XM. Paytra has just released her brand new single ‘ToTo’ which is wonderfully seductive. With the release of this new song, we were able to chat with Paytra about her story… Tell us about yourself and how you got into music. I’m Paytra! I don’t even remember a time where I didn’t play music. I started playing piano at age 4 (which I think is when your memory starts? lol). I remember my dad somehow got ahold of this old upright piano from a friend, and brought it in the house against my mom’s will. I immediately started playing and my Dad taught me “Let it Be” by The Beatles. I started begging for piano lessons, and by that time both parents were like “wow this is strange for a 4 year old to be 30

My journey of coming to NYC at 16 was a lot easier said than done. I thought it would be like the movies and all my dreams would come true - I mean I was from a small-town in the midwest so I had NO idea about city life. It was a culture shock, and there was a lot of crying and calling home. I guess I just decided that this was what I was going to do, and it got easier and easier! I forced myself to go to every event, class, and open mic until I met connections. I definitely got caught up with the wrong people. They took advantage of my age and lack of experience - but name one artist that hasn’t faced that. I’m lucky I did at such a young age so I have the ability to navigate this industry now. I overworked myself to exhaustion because I wasn’t physically ready for this type of lifestyle. Lotta anxiety attacks. It’s so easy to look at me now and be like “oh she’s confident,” but it’s taken a big toll on me. I’m here because I really want to be a musician - not “famous.” What were the ideas and inspiration behind your new track ’ToTo’? “ToTo” is a very intimate record about my love life lyric-wise, which is hard for me because I keep that very

private. It’s a real life story about being in love for the first time in NYC and having a real connection (physical and mental). I wanted to make it danceable and high-energy, because that’s my defense mechanism in a way. I was like “well, if I can go onstage with my dancers and dance my heart out, I can’t be shy about the lyrics, right?” I always think about the live version when doing a song - I love being on stage!

pretty regularly working! I was on an episode of Law and Order: SVU, MTV Truth Campaign, and an upcoming ad for Kipling! I do have a feature film being filmed this summer (which is on the DL), but It’s a new way to express myself and I do love it. You want to inspire young people in a positive way, what are your words of advice for young people and rising artists?

You’re a classically trained pianist, do you still play or combine this with I do want to inspire people. I’m still your pop/urban style? “figuring it all out,” and I think it’s important we have a more accepting Yes - I’m classically trained. I feel that view of that. In my new music, I want each style does something different to be real and talk about my mistakes, for me. I still play classical music my relationships, and my life. I want to (almost daily). That’s like a de-stresser show people that you can be young for me - you can’t think about anything and still make a difference. I used to when you’re playing a Beethoven be so self conscious about using a cuss piano piece with 800 key changes. As word or talking about some things I’ve for my pop/urban music, I use my felt, but I know I’m not perfect and I music theory for melodies or want people to just see me for who I instrument layers, but my goal is to really am. I feel like I’ve been holding make these songs simple and real. I back. My advice: don’t pretend to be don’t want to overcomplicate them - I something you aren’t. The beauty do that enough in my everyday life lol. about being an artist is to be your true I bring my classical background in my self without limits. Embrace it. music most noticeably during my ballads (which is coming on my EP)! What are your plans for the future? An unadulterated passion for music. Techno Music. The untainted colours and vibrations of sound that leave imprints on hearts and awaken souls. “Music brings a warm glow to my vision, thawing mind and muscle from their endless wintering.” Haruki Murakami Music is an ageless and timeless vibration where all is One. Present, past or transcending our 3rd dimension, Music is a World Language, Love the Universal Healer and Light the Universe itself in action taking us to the next level, the 5th Dimension! In enters passion filled with creativity. Drop music in the mix and you quite possibly have a purpose to raise vibrations on our planet. Given our fast evolving world and revolutionary rise of consciousness, special souls around the world are awakening to their truth. Some are doing it with their educated skills, some with learned talent and others still with inherent ancient gifts. Music. What’s important is that they are following their hearts. Living their passion and oh so loving the journey! Jay paused his navigation around the Globe to play and let us into what really drives his authentic passion as a deejay. Here’s what he has to share with the world…

Jay Price How did it all start for you Jay? I have always had a passion for music and have friends in the UK Rap scene, House, Techno and DnB platform. It’s only been the past 12-18 months that I’ve actually invested in my own equipment and music to develop my own style/sound.

What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ? As an attendee? As I’m just starting out it would have to be as an attendee, I have had so many unforgettable moments, from huge festivals with some amazing sets, to small intimate private gigs – a real stand out would have to be the Carl Cox closing set at Space Ibiza – he had the place sideways for 12 hours!!

What do you love playing the most? Tech House / Progressive House / What are your future plans for your Techno / Classic – I have broad taste in music career? To continue to learn and grow as a music so if it feels good, I’ll play it performer. I’m excited to start this journey and I can’t wait to feel the Favourite foods? Anything edible!! Ha! – I have a real energy from the other side of the decks! sweet tooth so without a doubt TELLA BALLS (Nutella Waffle). if you haven’t What is your advice to emerging talent and how they can set aside any fears had one, GET ONE! and pursue their dreams with courage? Who’s your muse in the music world? My advice as a new DJ would be … do it We are blessed to have so many great now! I’ve had the itch for years before DJs & Producers but someone I really starting this journey and my only regret enjoy watching is Jamie Jones – his is not starting sooner. energy and song selectiond are flawless. Shout out to Lauren Lo Sung Favorite holiday destination? too she can keep a room bouncing for So many! I recently spent just over a year in South East Asia... I would go with Bali hours! Just two of MANY! and the Gili Islands – The people, the How would you describe the dance culture, the landscape, the ocean... amazing! scene in Sydney? I haven’t spent too much time in the “dance scene” in Sydney – Chinese Laundry was a cool venue! This kind of room is where I feel the energy the most! I would prefer a small, dark, low ceiling venue with a strong sound system over most commercial places to be honest! Favourite Colour? BLACK (How boring? Ha).

What are the things that bugs you about the DJ scene? I can’t think of any particular thing but I think a big part of being in the DJ scene is creating special moments, and if a DJ becomes stagnant and loses their passion I think this would be the thing that would bug me.

Name one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it? Ultra Nate - Free “Where did we go wrong… Where did we lose our faith...” Without a doubt this is timeless. If you could get eternally stuck in one year's music scene, which year would that be? I feel like the direction we have taken with Techno and House in general would make me want to stay in the now.. although I’m a secret Motown/Funk fan so maybe a dabble in the 60s! Who do you aspire to and who influences you the most? I’m influenced by so many people, as I mentioned before. We are blessed to have so many creative and talented DJs and producers: The Martinez Bros, DJ Waff, Patrick Topping, Lauren Lo Sung, Carl Cox, David Rodigan, Chelina Manuhutu… the list goes on! If I can play the music that I love and you guys enjoy it too, we are all winning! – Lets dance! Any parting thoughts for emerging artists? If you’re reading this, you’re already further forward than I was when I made the step – we have all the tools at our fingertips so jump in, go play and enjoy it! __________________________________ www.instagram.com/jayprice_ www.soundcloud.com/jayprice-2

A steady piano melody, a dark sense of mystery in the air and swift moments of percussion are swirled together in a fragmented disarray. A uniquely sweet yet mystifying voice is at the very centre of this perplexing song. The thrill of passion and desire sweep over you. I kissed every inch of your soul. An ethereal escape. Slime Recordings is proud to welcome Astronata to the label, presenting their debut release. ‘BeLoved’ at it’s heart is an elegant piano ballad, housed in an footwork exoskeleton. The interplay between the tenderness of Nata Smirina’s voice and the frenetic percussion surrounding it provides a beguiling listening experience. Renowned Iberian Juke masterminds BSN Posse deliver a killer remix on the digital flip, fusing juke and jungle with explosive results, but still retaining the core melodies inherent in the original. www.facebook.com/astronataofficial 41

SETH TROXLER + LOST SOULS OF SATURN Just a short walk from Liverpool Street station in the heart of East London. Right opposite the American Carwash, inside that building upon which an old London Underground Tube carriage sits used as an office unbeknown to many passing by, there lies Village Underground. A warehouse space tailormade for bass and hosting big name underground music acts. This Easter Thursday the venue played hosts to an eclectic musical one man show infused with visuals so psychedelic and vibrant you could almost feel them. Seth Troxler + Lost Souls Of Saturn live, was that 1 man show. Shoreditch has long been seen as a 2nd home to ST, with past years seeing the curation of his Smokey Tails concept, but this was different. Easter Thursday felt like Christmas had come early. It were as if Seth had opened up the doors to his living room, put on his comfy slippers, turned the decks on and simply played music for whoever would listen effortlessly churning out riddim after riddim. And for those that don’t know, Village Underground is no tiny space. This massive spacious venue with air hanger like ceilings is tailored made for bass. Furthermore, VU is formulated in a way that the acoustics of the venue is, to put it simply, perfect for underground music making it the perfect stage for Seth Troxler. From start to end, the music just churned and a full capacity venue rocked from back to front catching every high and low. This was truly a step into the musical mind of Seth and boy was the journey incredible. Long Live Thursdays!

NEW MUSIC

‘No Place Like Me’ by Molly Hammar ft Big Narstie is a warm RnB song full of charm. You can feel the raw emotion in her voice, tugging at your own heartstrings. The smooth yet rhythmic production has a little touch of flavour in the tropical beats. A bittersweet feeling. The lyrics speak of confused emotions, is this true or is it just the flickering remains of what used to be? Being downed by you. Her sweetness is paired against his distant ruthless notes. Pairing Molly’s sensual vocal with percussive beats and a killer rap from Grime legend, chart topping, and award winning Big Narstie, 'No Place Like Me' reflects Molly’s current, carefree existence. Speaking about the track Molly said “’No Place Like Me’ marks the place I'm at in my life right now, being able to truly be free and focus on what makes me feel good. I’m 23, single and loving life. Having Big Narstie join me on this single is a dream come true, I was so happy when he agreed to guest, it couldn’t be a better fit.” Fresh from his recent RTS award win for his groundbreaking national TV Show Big Narstie added "When I first heard Molly I thought ‘rah, this is sick!’ She’s got a wicked voice, and No Place Like Me is a banger so it was a no brainer to jump on board. Big up Cosmos and the Swedish BDL family. We’re gonna ride this wave from the UK to Scandinavia and across the world” www.instagram.com/mollyhammar 44

‘Long Time Coming’ by Trixie Whitley is sexy and intense. A steely hard bass grips you, fiercely sinking its teeth into your skin. A whirring toxic air clouding over. An eery, sultry voice drifts in. Huge energy surges into the main section with a feverish passion and heat. You’re thrown into this delicious reverie. Two souls coming together once more. The fire burning wildly. The Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist and former Black Dub frontwoman has never shied away from blurring boundaries and defying genres. For her third solo album ‘Lacuna’, Trixie Whitley is pulling her soul into a future world thru a fascinating and heady blend of hi-fi electronics, hypnotic rhythms and her signature vocals. ‘Lacuna’ adds another exciting layer to Trixie’s already remarkable career and life path. "For me the new album is all about perception, possibility and the imagination. ‘Long Time Coming’ is largely about the tension which can exist between two individuals. It is an ode to the departures and new beginnings which often occur at the same time, an observation of this rich yet challenging process we experience when going through changes and transitions. I’ve always been intrigued by the space between opposing elements which may seem like a void but contains a well of information – that’s why I’m calling the album ‘Lacuna.’" Trixie Whitley www.trixiewhitley.com 46

‘CHANGE’ BY 8 BIT SOCIETY IS ULTRA HIP AND FUNKY. A GROOVE-FUELLED BEAT KICKS INTO ACTION. THE ALLURING YET FEISTY ATTITUDE OF HER IS PAIRED TOGETHER WITH HIS EQUALLY CHARISMATIC AND DARING TONES. THE UPBEAT SPRING OF THE TEMPO GETS YOUR BODY MOVING. WHAT’S STANDING IN YOUR WAY? THE STRAIGHT-TALKING LYRICS TALK OF TAKING THAT CHANCE AND EXPLORING YOUR FEELINGS. I’M THE ONE YOU’RE LOOKING FOR. ‘Paradise’ by Bazzi is the epitome of a millennial romance story. The cool, modern tone of the production sets your body into a swaying motion. A laidbaick, hazy vision of life is painted. The raspy vocals spilling down the sides. If all we got tonight, let's do this right. On the heels of his 2019 Billboard Music Award nomination for “Top New Artist,” twenty-one-yearold Lebanese/American r&b/pop phenomenon Bazzi has released the official follow-up to his back-to-back top 10 singles, “Mine” and “Beautiful.” “Paradise,” written entirely by Bazzi and co-produced by Bazzi and GRAMMY-nominated duo Rice N’ Peas (G-Eazy, Fletcher), captures the state of mind when two young lovers discover bliss in each other’s company, regardless of geographic location. “It’s not about a location or vacation, it’s about portraying the feeling of ‘Paradise’ that can truly exist anywhere,” Bazzi says. “For me, I always think so vividly of my Friday nights when I was in high school. I feel nostalgia and mystery around them and I really wanted to capture those feelings in this record. When people listen, I want to take them back to those times and give them that mood and feeling.” www.bazziofficial.com

The ‘DVNC EP’ is a lovely trio of artistic expressions through the form of sound. Tommy J Gren delivers intricate dance movements and explores the possibilities of the futuristic world. Specialivery goes hard with a cold, dark pounding beat and gritty bass fusions. Parsifal’s soft and elegant creation gives the feeling of floating amongst the clouds in a delicate dream. A journey through time and space. This release is meant to honor Leonardo da Vinci in the year of the 500th anniversary of his death. Leonardo was eccentric and pure genius. A dreamer who channelled researches in art and science giving birth to fantastic innovations in many fields. Kinesen top players - Tommy J Gren, Parsifal and Specialivery - decided to build a shared EP trying to break everyone's personal limits into music production, channelling other music genres influences with their personal sound identity, editing with heart and unaffected music industry standards or finally, more savage, recording a live session fully made with analogue machines. The resulting EP was very satisfying and everyone learned that we should always work standard-free and thinking out of the box. www.soundcloud.com/kinesenrec 50

‘Unstoppable’ by Ananya Birla is a nice, motivational song. The rhythmic melody and uplifting tempo give you good energy. The confident, feminine power in the vocals shine through brilliantly. Take out these fears. The theme is all about empowering women and showing her that she can do anything. Set all of the world on fire Ahead of her highly-anticipated EP in April, singer-songwriter Ananya Birla, the first homegrown artist singing in English to ever gain Platinum status in India, has released a brand new single 'Unstoppable'. The conversation around female empowerment has never been louder or more widespread. To celebrate this, Ananya's uplifting track is dedicated to fearless women who are breaking down barriers and defying stereotypes to achieve incredible things. Ananya, who was recently listed as one of GQ's Most Influential Young Indians, said of the powerful electro-pop number: "Rules were made to be broken, especially if you've been told throughout history that you're "less than." I released 'Unstoppable' on International Woman's Day to celebrate women who know that gender is no barrier. With determination and strength, we can achieve anything." www.ananyabirla.com 52

‘International’ by The Irrepressibles delivers a powerful message from the universe. It is a strong expression of life and unity shown through the simple spoken word. The complex, futuristic production encompasses a bold and dramatic energy field. This electricity is fed through the ears, pulsing through our veins.

WE WERE ONCE ONE. THE SAME BLOOD IN OUR VEINS NO BORDERS THE STARS. FREEDOM. LOVE. “I was full of anger that many of my friends who are international people living in another country from that of their birth, or mixed race, or duel nationality, were somehow considered invalid, not important, either by the UK government or by the almost half of the general population. I could see nothing but stupidity and danger in such a direction and I had to speak out. So together with the performers on the track and video, visual artists Stephen Williams, Darin Tufani, and Ukrainian video director Alexey Romanowsky we decided to make something to communicate a powerful positive message of Internationalism and international love. This in the hope to wake up people to what they will loose.” Jamie Irrepressible INTERNATIONAL is the 4th single released from The Irrepressibles forthcoming third album. The tracks pro- International message, artwork social campaign, and music video are a rallying call for compassion and a positive message about what Internationalism does for the world and for us as people. The message is artistically poised to come from the future, like a warning to the direction of nationalism we are currently taking politically in the UK. The video features close friends of songwriter/composer Jamie Irrepressible who are either EU citizens living in either London or Berlin. In the track and music video they speak in their native tongue - French, Bengali, Turkish, German, Spanish, and Italian - but all communicate the same words regarding the power and positivity of Internationalism politically and global compassion and love. www.facebook.com/TheIrrepressibles 53

The ‘Odyssey EP’ by Jeef B is a gentle movement into a positive realm. The title track brings a sturdy, repetitive beat which you can rely on. The break holds a brief moment of thought. Second track ‘Deep At Night’ maintains a secure beat stride. It also brings a lovely charm to the melody and atmosphere allowing for a deeper submersion into tranquility. Launching his campaign with 'Odyssey', the rolling bass line and groove begin to build the magic that is about ensue. Plucky leads, sweeping pads and a big room energy all feature in this scorching E.P opener. Next up on the E.P is another lush progressive moment in the form of 'Deep At Night'. Perfectly titled, the track is a lush journey through dark and moody, yet with nuances of feel good energy throughout. www.facebook.com/jeefmusic

6 years since the original release, the strong and melodic trancer ‘Morning Sun’ by Mark Rustell is refreshed with two new remixes. MNK delivers a vibrant sunset edit with a relaxed mood. The focus is drawn towards the delightful piano and warm surrounding glow. “I wanted to do something smooth and melodic,” MNK explains. “I started thinking about tracks from the 90s/00s, that was my inspiration.” Next up, Michel Dogniaux takes a minimal approach with an orchestral intro mix whereby deep, atmospheric notes are prolonged to create intensity. This then drops down into a hard retro-style production. Michel Dogniaux describes his thought process, “this energetic melody, these chords, I had to transcribe it and give something epic - reminiscent of the sun when it rises in a grandiose natural setting.” www.awjrecordings.com

‘Solo’ by Jamala is a dramatic portrayal of independence. Water droplets splash onto the dark, rumbling ground. She reflects on the bleak state of affairs that have passed. I played it well and lost the war. There is a lovely range to the vocals featuring beautiful soft highs as well as gorgeous smooth depths. A strong, powerful piano comes in together with equally strong self-empowerment. You won’t win me over. Solo is the new pop anthem by world famous and award winning vocalist Jamala, featuring a remix package that is already smashing the club charts. Jamala says “I’m so excited about releasing Solo, I’ve had such a great response about it from DJs! And it was such a fun experience working with Bryan Todd, we make a great team.” Jamala is a Ukrainian recording artist, songwriter and actress who has been topping the Ukrainian charts for the past decade. She prestigiously performed at the UEFA EURO 2012 football championships to 150 countries, creating an international buzz for her performance of Goal. In 2014 her cinematic debut The Guide received critical success, winning a #1 movie at the box office. In 2016, Jamala had another milestone in her career when she won Eurovision for the song 1944, the video of which has had almost 5 million views. Jamala has had 6 albums & 18 internationally successful singles. She is a judge on The Voice in the Ukraine where she enjoys coaching younger artists and helping them to develop. She has had hundreds of millions of YouTube & Spotify streams and performs to stadium audiences around the world. ‘Meditation’ by Arkam is a beautiful moment of transcendence. The deep atmosphere moves your mind, an energy force taking over you. Waves washing over you like the oceans lapping at the sand. The lively track lifts your spirit and imparts great power to the listener. Raise your vibrations. Focus your attention and expand your conscious awareness as you get lifted by “Meditation”, a billowing progressive stunner coming soon from the brilliant mind of Arkam. Signifying his debut on OHM Deep State, “Meditation” will help you find your center as the consistent rhythm displays the character of a heartbeat, guiding us through a maze of fluttering synth detail and vibrating bassline. Adding to our journey of internal exploration, far off in the distance the spirits of the night sing a song that sounds like a sweet whisper to the soul. As each element claims its effect on our psyche, we feel the stress begin to get swept away like a weightless entity caught in the grasp of the cool winter wind. Through the virtue of “Meditation”, we discover a phenomenal balance between auditory authenticity and the human experience. Since DJ/producer Ellez Ria chose to embark on his Arkam side project, there hasn’t been one soul free from the effects of his (outside the box) dance music stylings. Artists like Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate, Darren Porter, and Super 8 & Tab have already stepped up to sing their praises and with unique studio productions like “Meditation” waiting in the wings, there should be no question that Arkam will one day rule the industry. But, in the here and now, as he continues to blur the lines of genre-defining boundaries, Arkam finds his rightful home among the musical visionaries that make OHM Deep State resonate with future-forward flair! Whatever your dance floor pleasure, it is Arkam who has the answer. www.facebook.com/ArkamMusic 59
