About Audentes IB Audentes has been offering the IB Diploma Programme education since 2011. Unlike most IB programmes Audentes consists of an additional Pre-IB year for students who have graduated 9th grade and want to continue in the IB programme. Audentes’s main focus is the principle of wisdom, health and balance. Audentes believes that acquiring knowledge and mainting your health is equally important.

Creation of the newsletter The newsletter was born out of the ideas and imagination of all Pre-ib students. Our teacher Anneliis suggested this idea and with no disagreements we started planning. We made this with the aim of improving our project creating skills, teamwork and to have a cool newsletter for the IB. Introducing the team: Erik the author of the newsletters layout, Hanna the interviewer, Cassandra, Ali, Eva, Jiyoon worked on producing usable articles, Aleksander the author of one of the carbon cycle comics and this same article, Nikolai who is responsible for one of the comics and Aleksandr author of the crossword. The original articles were written by people from the Ib, and we thank them for doing so. The process took three weeks and the product was a newsletter that counts also as the creative project.

Experience at MUN General about Model United Nations.

Model UN was created by Harvard students in 1955 and consists of a simulation of the United Nations aiming to provide students with a detailed introduction to the world of international politics and diplomacy. It gives them the unique opportunity to play the role of a UN ambassador in multiple conferences and represent a given country in a UN committee on pre-worked topics. Each conference goes through the real UN process: from the opening statements to the debate, the writing and adopting of a resolution. To be convincing, the participants have to research their country’s policies thoroughly and defend them persuasively in position papers, debates, and draft resolutions.

It teaches not only extensive debating and public speaking skills, giving participants a chance to practice them, but also allows for an inside perspective on world politics and the possibility to give one’s own opinion and further develop interest and knowledge in many fields.

The conference itself me

The conference was attended by organisers who controlled the whole process. The committee I was put called DISEC - The Disarmament and Security Committee. I was the representative of Germany and I was very happy about it because the country is rich and very important in the adoption of any international issues.

We discussed two global problems such as Nuclear proliferation in the Korean peninsula and Use of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Conflict Zones. The topics were interesting and chairs provided us with an opportunity to ponder the challenges which the world face today.

The first two days I spent for adopting, listening and watching the rules of the game. The last two days I tried to be more active. I had the desire to be heard. All the participants are very smart, everyone defended his position, his interest and all this was happening on a positive note - I learned a lot about DIPLOMATIC behaviour.

Arriving in Zurich, having relocated on a train to St.Gallen, I was greeted very warmly and joyfully by my HOSTS. They were three friends who have been living together in a large and spacious apartment. The same evening I had a great time walking in a small, but a very beautiful city in which live 80 thousand people and 8 thousand of them are students.

After the debate was over, we used to go to evening walks, parties. All the committees were gathering at these parties and there was an opportunity to get acquainted with the new guys. Communication with them, their goals and desires were very inspiring.

During the first day, I met many new friends and people. I was excited by everything that was surrounded me. I realised, that I am in a right place with a right people and that I should be open to every new possibility. The first day‌ That excitement, the feeling of openness, possibility!

New acquaintances, all guys were from different parts of the world. Someone 19, someone 23, and someone 34 years old. They are all different, everyone has their own experience and everyone studies at different universities. I was the youngest participant, but nevertheless, age did not interfere with common interests and class communication with everyone.

NEW IB STUDENTS AFRAID OF THEIR UPCOMING YEARS Every year, new students enter the IB system in Audentes School.Young people from all over the world come to study at a place they have never been before and it is obvious that they are afraid of what is awaiting them. They may be familiar with the IB system itself and what they need to do during their three-year study, b u t l i t t l e d o t h e y k n o w, t h e nightmare that awaits them. But luckily the final year students are there to save them. They have lots of experience writing 2000-word essays in a night, covering 10 math topics in one lesson, the many sleepless nights and no free time.

On the first day of school, we all saw the curious & confused faces of the new students, the seniors definitely saw a bit of themselves in the new eyes of the new students.

IB at Haapsalu Castle museum On 6th of September the IB students were taken to Haapsalu castle, to hear local legends, explore the underground tunnels and climb a tall tower, from which you can enjoy a majestic view of the mighty town of Haapsalu.

One of the most popular legends surrounding the castle, is the legend of The White Lady, which goes like this: In the Middle Ages, every canon had to live a chaste and virtuous life according to the rules of the monastery. Access of women to the castle was strictly forbidden, punishable by death. One day a canon and an Estonian girl fell madly in love with each other. They couldn’t stay apart. So the canon dressed the girl up as a boy and brought her to the castle to sing in the choir.

They have been there before, the graduates understand what the freshmen are going through, but they are excited as they know that the freshmen are unaware of the hell that’s ahead. It may be cruel for them to be excited, but they also feel comfort that they are not the only ones going through the living hell of IB. To laid the students’ curiosity, the seniors sat in front of the class and welcomed all the students to ask to their heart’s desire. At first no one was brave enough to ask anything which and the DP2 students noticed it quite fast, so they helped the new students out.

For a long time it remained a secret, but one day the deception was discovered.

The verdict from the Bishop was harsh: the canon was thrown to the castle’s dungeon to starve to death, while the girl was buried alive in the wall of the Baptistery.

The screams of the poor woman was heard for several days until she finally fell silent.

Yet her soul is said to have not found peace and so the legend goes that she appears in the window of the Baptistery to give for her lover.

Taking turns, one by one, everyone had to ask a question.

Basic questions like “How long are the lessons?” and “Are the teachers strict?” started to flow in.

The seniors eventually became bored and started to talk about the intense system themselves, until a teacher had to stop them.

But at the end of the day everyone realised that it’s worth it, to receive the IB diploma. It requires much work, but you’ll have a reliable base for your future and you won’t regret the time spent in IB, you just have to believe in yourself.

After the guide told us this legend we attempted to find proof of this legend and went to explore the territory of the castle. The brave ones explored pitch black underground rooms and found some signs of torture machinery, others climbed to the highest tower of Haapsalu and found nothing else than a wonderful view of the town.

We all enjoyed this trip to Haapsalu castle, but sadly we didn’t find any signs of the white lady. What if this legend was just made up by some local hooligans? Or she just went out to have a cup of coffee and enjoy the beautiful of Haapsalu?

Hidden Tallinn

Have you ever been to the heart of Tallinn? Have you ever wondered what is hidden behind the Old Town’s stone walls? At first though, the question might seem to have a simple answer, there are just buildings and cafeterias, shops and museums, lots of tourists and such.

However, when you discover the old legends of Tallinn, you will find out a completely different place for yourself. Are you ready to unveil the secrets of Tallinn?

Tallinn is teeming with myths and legends. The legend of The Devil’s Wedding is one of the most fascinating yet scary. The event took place a long time ago on Rataskaevu street. A visitor can’t help but notice a house and it’s left highest window. The curtains are drawn and there is a concrete wall behind it. But why is it so? Try to find out for yourself.

The third legend is a horrifying story about execution. It is so well hidden that despite being in the main square of the Old Town, a lot of people stand on the very spot of it every day being unaware of the terrible event that had taken place there. Interviews About IB During the last week I got the opportunity to interview a few IB students and ask them: Why did they come to the IB?, as well as I wanted to find out what has IB given to them so far? and what are their plans for the future?

“ I heard about the IB last year and it seemed very interesting. I came here because after IB I can study abroad with higher education.

Now IB has given me many new friends and different experiences. Pre- IB and the Carbon Cycle In recent Biology classes Pre-IB have been studying the carbon cycle. To help our understanding of the subject we were tasked to make a comic of the life of a carbon atom.

Most living things on our planet consist of carbon. The carbon cycle is basically a sequence of events that helps Earth sustain life. They need the carbon in order to live, grow and reproduce.

Carbon is also found in various forms in the atmosphere and is partially responsible for the greenhouse effect. These were the few carbon cycles drawn.

Tartu Visit for DP1 AND DP2 On Wednesday, October 18th, several IB students visited the Research Laboratory of Chemistry at the University of Tartu in the building CHEMICUM. The University of Tartu Youth Academy piloted and Investigation Lab. Its goal was to provide students with a new and exciting way to learn science through experimentation. By integrating physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics, students had an opportunity to solve interesting problems and learn the basics of lab-work.

The third method was studying the potato variety Gala. It was necessary to peel the first potato, pepper the pyre, prepare the extract, use the indicator as a starch solution, titrate with iodine solution and finally find vitamin C content. Students learned that on average their potato contained 20 mg of vitamin C per 100 g boiled product, and to get the necessary amount of daily vitamin C, we would have to eat about 400 g of organically produced potatoes with local Estonian origin. The test results and charts were promptly formatted using computers in the workstation, we created tables and trendlines on graphs in the Google Drive environment.

In the end, summaries were completed, charts, tables were displayed. Cheerful young chemists were awarded and had thematic gifts. We are very grateful for the experience and teachings of the team of the University of Tartu Research Laboratory!

In a modernly designed research centre, our students were able to explore the presence of pigments in spin by TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) and use UVbased lamps.The second experiment tested how osmosis works in saline potato slices. It turned out that using osmosis, it is possible to lower the water content of potatoes and extend their shelf life.
