WHO WE ARE

Samstown is collective of Zambian and South-African UCT graduates running virtual productions with talent from Colombia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Our mixed-medium virtual studio/production company aims to create high-concept/low-budget social-political films viewed through a sci-fi/fantasy lense. Our goal is social justice by way of providing comentry on the inherent contradictions of our society using a mix of moti li i d h d drawn animation techniques.

SYNOPSIS

A long time ago, the world was broken in a cataclysmic clash between the mother of creation and a god-king known as The Traveler. Only one small village survived this breaking: one which prays to The Mother - a goddess whose distant mercy masks a deadly and merciless force about to erupt.

In that village, there lives a young misfit called Adam who is caught between the forbidden love he and Marika share and the possible loss of his chaos bound refuge.

After their village is attacked by wraiths, the misfit embarks upon a quest to find a city called Nottingham, a place that scripture says cannot be reached, in search of a healer that can bring the love of his life back from the dead.

THEMES

The Streets of Nottingham is about hope. It is about defying fate: finding, searching, looking for the things they say cannot be found.

It is about impossible dreams and the way chasing those dreams changes you - unmaking and remaking you. It is about becoming and unbecoming. Creation and destruction.

It is about the effects of time in a world where time is undone to the point that p ndless cycles.

That is what The Streets of Nottingham is about. It is about trying here you know you will never get to. It is about being lost: In space, in time. Forev g Nottingham in protest of what was done to us. For what we have become because of it. In protest of these endless quests the IMF and the world bank sets us upon. These aparent well meaning gods that even now with surprising dedication rend ruin upon us.

I took these structures of feeling and forged them into a dark fantasy tale about humans caught in the middle of a cosmic clash between gods and monsters
