April 20-23, 2023
AUBURN UNIVERSITY THEATRE AND DANCE PRESENTS
Telfair B. Peet Mainstage Theatre
Conceived and Directed by ADRIENNE WILSON and JERI DICKEY
Featuring the Auburn University Dance Ensemble and Guest Artists
Directors’ Note
Dance has come a long way here at Auburn University since the official beginning of the dance minor in 2008. Over the years, students have been building community in the program through their shared love of dance. Each year, this communal passion culminates in the annual dance concert, embracing multiple forms of dance that feature students, faculty, and guest artists as performers, choreographers, and designers — and encouraging dancers to participate regardless of declared majors and experience.
Dancers, choreographers, guest artists, and lighting and costume designers have been hard at work creating and rehearsing to offer a diverse and eclectic program of dance for the 2023 production season. And now we invite you to enjoy the work, embrace the celebration, and consider the possibilities of the name change of the department: Auburn University’s Department of Theatre and Dance!
With joy and jubilation, Adrienne & Jeri
A Note About the Performance

He has since created or reconstructed 21 works for that company, including a full evening of his works in November, 2017 and September/October, 2022.
The Bill Evans Dance Company celebrated its 40th anniversary in April 2014. It has appeared in 48 U. S. states and has taken Mr. Evans to 29 other countries. For several years, it was the most-booked professional dance ensemble in the U.S. BEDCO has appeared at American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and in many international dance festivals.
Evans has been awarded several fellowships and grants from the U. S. National Endowment for the Arts and multiple state arts agencies. He has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, Lifetime Achievement Awards from National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), American Dance Guild (ADG), and Dance Teacher Magazine. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. He was named one of three favorite world tap dancers in the Dance Magazine Readers’ Poll. He has served as ACDA adjudicator and/or guest artist 23 times. He has coordinated three ACDA conferences and assisted in the hosting of two others. Evans served as interim artistic director for Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers and has served as a guest teacher and choreographer for WCD and for the Senior Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers, where he has returned every May for the past quarter century.
The Bill Evans Summer Institute of Dance just celebrated its 45th year, and the Bill Evans Teachers Intensive its 23rd. His annual Somatic Dance Conference and Performance Festival is in its ninth year. Evans celebrated his 83rd birthday this spring.
Anne Nelson graduated from AU in 2021 with a bachelors of science in nursing and a minor in dance. After becoming paralyzed in a car accident in June 2016 she spent 4 months in rehab at the Shepherd Center, then several years in intense physical therapy, and continues to work on her recovery to this day. One way Anne has managed to make such a remarkable recovery is through learning aerial silks and hammock, to which she was introduced by Jeri Dickey while in college. When Anne returned to AU after her accident, she accepted the challenge of finishing the dance minor in a wheelchair. She performed as a soloist (2018, 2021) and as an ensemble dancer (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) in AU spring dance concerts; she also represented Auburn as part of adjudicated performances at the American College Dance Association (ACDA) South regional conferences in 2017 and 2019.
