The meet is scheduled for 3 p.m. on March 24. Auburn and the six other SEC programs will face off in one final opportunity to improve their standings before NCAA Regionals, all with the SEC Championship on the line. Auburn’s best finish at the SEC Championships is a pair of third-place performances in 1992 and 1993. The meet will air in tape-delay format on ESPN2 on March 29 at 7 p.m.

Auburn in the Rankings Auburn stands at 15th in this week’s RQS and with just one more score to be determined. The Tigers rank 25th in vault, 10th in uneven bars, 16th in balance beam and 17th in floor exercise. Senior all-arounder Kylie Shields owns the nation’s 10th-best uneven bars RQS with her mark of 9.890. Petrina Yokay ranks 17th in bars RQS (9.880) and Allyson Sandusky is 22nd (9.875). Sandusky also ranks 42nd in beam RQS (9.840). Toi Garcia (37th - 9.860) and Bri Guy (56th - 9.845) both rank in floor RQS.

Last Year at the SEC Meet Auburn finished sixth with a score of 195.325 at the 2011 SEC Championships held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The score was the fourth-best mark of the season for the Tigers. Auburn finished behind No. 2 Alabama, top-ranked Florida, No. 8 Georgia, 11th-ranked Arkansas and No. 19 LSU, but defeated Kentucky. Toi Garcia set a then career high with a score of 39.125 in the all-around competition. Up Next Next on the schedule for Auburn is NCAA Regionals on April 7. The Tigers are hosting in Auburn Arena for the first time and hosting an NCAA gymnastics event for the first time since the 2006 NCAA Gymnastics championships were held in the old Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Auburn will be making its ninth consecutive trip to regionals. The Tigers last missed the postseason in 2002.

Lane Earns SEC Recognition Auburn senior Laura Lane was named to the SEC Community Service team on March 19. The senior from Glen Allen, Virginia joins Kylie Shields and Leah Vining as recent members of the program to earn the respected distinction. Lane is also a former SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2011. Road Score at Kentucky Helps Ranking Auburn was able to bump its RQS with a solid road score against Kentucky. The 195.525 posted by the Tigers is the second-highest road score of the season, second only to the 195.800 scored at Arkansas. The Tigers used solid scores on uneven bars (49.175) and floor (49.100) to post their second-largest total of the season. Record Scoring against Florida Against the top-ranked Gators, Auburn recorded its highest score of the season, and the second-best score in program history with a 196.875. The score was the highest for Auburn since 2004. Included in the total were season highs on three events (vault, bars and beam). The Tigers’ 49.475 on uneven bars is the second-highest total for any team in Division I team through Feb. 20, 2012. Guy Named Freshman of the Week Guy totaled 39.550 in the all-around competition - the third-best score in program history and the highest total for an Auburn gymnast since 2008. Guy is the first Auburn gymnast to receive an SEC weekly award since Allyson Sandusky in 2010, and the first to be named Freshman of the Week since Sandusky in 2009. Tigers Place Third at WVU Auburn tallied its lowest score of the season as it finished third behind Ohio State and West Virginia in a quad-meet hosted by the Mountaineers. Despite struggling for most of the day, Auburn still featured the top individual scorers on uneven bars (Petrina Yokay - 9.900) and floor exercise (Bri Guy - 9.825). Lexus Demers scored 9.700 in just her second-ever collegiate floor routine after joining the Auburn team last month. Strong Road Score at Arkansas Auburn posted its second-highest overall score and its best road mark of the 2012 season with a score of 195.800 against Arkansas. The Tigers came through with a season-best score of 49.975 on floor, anchored by a 9.900 from Bri Guy. Floor also saw the season debut of freshman mid-year enrollee Lexus Demers who posted a 9.600 in her first collegiate routine. Demers was pressed into action after Caryn Kadous was pulled from floor due to a minor ankle injury. Junior Petrina Yokay helped Auburn to its highest event score of the night, a 49.125 on beam, with her career-best 9.850 on the apparatus.

Tigers Test Tide For the second-consecutive week, Auburn posted its highest total score of the season, despite a loss to Alabama in its third week of competition. The Tigers also posted season-high marks on bars and floor, breaking the 49.000 mark in each event for the first time this season. Auburn’s total score of 196.250 was its highest team score since posting a 196.400 in a win at Kentucky on February 12, 2010. Veteran and Newcomer Both Shine in All-Around Senior Kylie Shields took home her second-consecutive and fourth career all-around title against Alabama. Shields earned a 39.225 behind a career-high 9.900 on bars. Freshman Bri Guy competed in the all-around for the first time this season, earning a 38.750. Guy tied her season-high 9.850 on vault, posted a 9.725 in her first bars routine of the season, and anchored on floor with a season-high 9.925. Strong Opener with Georgia Auburn opened its home schedule with its strongest scoring output of the year. The Tigers broke 105 for the first time in 2012 and posted season-high scores in three events (bars, beam and floor). Additionally, the meet with Georgia set a new Auburn Arena gymnastics attendance record with 4,508 fans in attendance. Shields Shines Against UGA Senior Kylie Shields put on a show Friday night against Georgia. The senior from Mahopac, N.Y. claimed her third career all-around title as she bested Georgia’s Noel Couach in a heads up all-around showdown with a season-high AA score of 39.250. Auburn Stumbles in Baton Rouge Despite finishing two spots ahead of LSU at the Cancun Classic, Auburn fell to LSU in the SEC opening meet for both squads on January 13. Auburn senior Kylie Shields set a career high in the vault with a score of 9.875 and tied her career high on beam with a 9.900. The Tigers led after two events, but multiple falls on beam cost Auburn a chance at the victory.

Cancun Classic a Success With a score of 194.725, Auburn finished in third place at the 2012 Cancun Classic at the Iberostar Resort in Cancun, Mexico on January 6. The Tigers edged fourth-place Iowa by nearly a full point and also scored higher than fifth-place LSU. Junior Petrina Yokay took second in the all-around competition with a score of 39.200 and senior Kylie Shields posted a 9.875 to take second in the uneven bars. Yokay set a new career-best mark in the all-around and tied her careerhigh totals in beam and floor. Shields tied her career high mark on bars. Strength of Schedule Ranking Auburn’s 2012 schedule was ranked as the 7th-most difficult among NCAA Division I programs according to CollegeGymFans.com. Auburn will face eight programs this season ranked in the NACGC/W pre-season top 25. Demers Joins Program After enrolling for the Spring 2012 semester on Monday, freshman Lexus Demers has joined the Auburn program for the 2012 season. Demers, who graduated high school a semester early in December. The freshman saw her first action with a floor routine against Arkansas on February 3. Demers received a score of 9.600 for her first collegiate routine.
Recruiting Class Ranked in Top 10 Nationally With the addition of freshman Lexus Demers for the 2012 season, Auburn’s class of freshmen ranks among the top groups in the country. CollegeGymFans.com ranked Auburn’s class as the 10th-best in the nation on January 4. Auburn is one of five SEC programs in the top 10. Auburn on TV Six Auburn meets are scheduled to air in tape-delayed fashion on television this season. Home meets against Georgia (1/24 - 6 pm), Alabama (1/31 - 6 pm) and Florida (2/26 - 12 pm) will be featured on CSS. Additionally, road meets at LSU (1/21 - 4 pm) and Arkansas (2/11 - 8 pm) will air on the Fox Sports Networks.
