The Meet Auburn opens the 2013 season in Berkeley, Calif. with the host Cal Bears as well as No. 19 Arizona and SEC opponent, No. 25 Kentucky. Auburn defeated Cal in the only other previous meeting and has faced Arizona 13 times and holds a 3-10 mark, including squaring off with the Wildcats in Cancun last season. The Tigers are 34-28 all time against conference foe Kentucky, including a loss last season in Lexington.

Auburn in the Rankings Auburn gymnastics is ranked 13th in the 2013 preseason coaches poll released by GymInfo. The ranking of 13th is the highest preseason start for Auburn in program history. The Tigers were previously ranked 14th in both 2010 and 2004. Auburn finished the 2012 season ranked 15th and reached as high as 13th during the season, the highest rank since 2009. The Tigers posted two of the top five overall team scores in program history with totals of 196.875 against Florida and 196.700 against Southern Utah during the season. Last Year in the Opener With a score of 194.725, Auburn finished in third place at the 2012 Cancun Classic at the Iberostar Resort in Cancun, Mexico on January 6, 2012 to open the second year under Jeff Graba. The Tigers edged fourth-place Iowa by nearly a full point and also scored higher than fifth-place LSU. Junior Petrina Yokay took second in the all-around competition with a score of 39.200 and senior Kylie Shields posted a 9.875 to take second in the uneven bars. Yokay set a new career-best mark in the all-around and tied her career-high totals in beam and floor. Up Next The Tigers open up the home schedule next Friday when they host Kentucky in the SEC opener. It will mark the second-straight week facing the Wildcats. Last season, Auburn put together one its better road meets of the year with a score of 195.150 as it finished second behind host Kentucky’s 195.525 in a road tri-meet with the Wildcats and Pittsburgh in Lexington.

Tigers Ink Two in November Auburn signed two gymnasts, Mary Jane Rott and Kullen Hlawek, during the fall signing period. The duo will begin competion for the Tigers in 2014. Rott comes to Auburn from Rising Stars Gymnastics Academy in Oakdale, Minnesota. She is a three-time JO National Championships Qualifier. Rott has won seven all-around titles in the last two years, including winning the Region IV All-Around Championships in both 2011 and 2012. A native of Fulshear, Texas, Hlawek competes for Champion Gymnastics Academy in Katy, Texas. She is a twotime JO National qualifier. She has scored 38 or higher in the all-around five times in the last two years. Auburn to Featured on Television Six Times Six of Auburn’s meets during the 2013 season are already scheduled for television coverage. The Tigers’ meets at Florida on January 25 (ESPN) and at Alabama on February 15 (CSS) will be televised in addition to the home meeting with LSU on February 22 (Fox Sports Net). Auburn’s meet at Georgia on January 18 will also be televised on CSS. The opener at Cal will be televised on the PAC 12 Network. In addition to regular season action, fans can watch the SEC Championship on ESPNU and ESPN. Strong Showing for Gymnastics on NACGC/W Academic Lists The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) announced both the team and individual Scholastic All-America award winners for the 2011-12 season and Auburn had a strong showing on both the team and individual lists. As a team, Auburn posted a collective grade point average (GPA) of 3.4329 to rank 19th overall. That GPA is up from 3.11 for the 2010-11 scholastic year, an average that ranked 58th. Since Graba took over in 2010, the Tigers have risen more than 40 spots from 65th for the 2009-10 year to 19th this year under his guidance. Additionally, individuals Abbey Habicht, Caryn Kadous, Kelsey Thomasson, Megan Walker and Petrina Yokay were recognized as Scholastic All-Americans. Former gymnasts Kareen Kaveh, Laura Lane, Kylie Shields and Kendall Swartz were also on the list.
