SGA OVERVIEW PROGRAMS

ORGANIZATIONAL SEATING PROGRAM

OSP is SGA’s competitive, incentive-based system used to promote and determine organizational seating at football games. All campus organizations are encouraged to participate to earn OSP block seating.

ATHLETIC PROGRAMMING

SGA hosts multiple pep rallies and other athletic-related events each year to promote the Auburn spirit and to celebrate the Auburn family. SGA’s Athletic Programming team works to coordinate Camp War Eagle pep rallies, the Homecoming Pep Rally, set out shakers for home football games, and more. Athletic programs believe in and live out a spirit that is not afraid while unifying all that is Auburn.

HEY DAY

Hey Day promotes the spirit of friendliness for which Auburn is known as thousands of students say, “Hey!” to one another all over campus. SGA’s Hey Day first began during World War II and has grown into one of Auburn’s most famous and beloved traditions. SGA distributes thousands of name tags to Auburn students in to promote a welcoming, family environment across campus which is centered around the Student Center Green Space. Hey Day believes in and lives out the human touch while unifying all that is Auburn.

CREED WEEK

HOMECOMING

In 1943, George Petrie wrote down what he believed to be the ideals of the Auburn Family. Creed Week is an event to develop programming geared to engage the entire student body and promote “living” the Auburn Creed. The team coordinates events and activities with other student organizations, and the Office of Student Conduct. Creed Week serves as an outreach event highlighting what it means to be a part of the Auburn Family and provides an opportunity for students to become involved in SGA.

SGA works to coordinate and sponsor various Homecoming activities each year that involves the entire Auburn family and promote school spirit. Traditionally, SGA is heavily responsible for planning and hosting the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally which are typically held downtown. In addition, SGA looks to sponsor events during Homecoming Week such as the Miss Homecoming Elections and other student organizations’ festivities. Homecoming believes in and lives out a spirit that is not afraid while unifying all that is Auburn

HOLIDAY LIGHTING CEREMONY

Celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with the Auburn Family as we light the Christmas tree and menorah. The holiday season marks a time when we can all come together to celebrate traditions and diversity amongst Auburn students and families. There will be free entertainment, refreshments and a reading from the Christmas story and Hanukkah story.

THE AUBIE PROGRAM

Aubie is Auburn’s spirited mascot. He’s an eight-time National Champion, the most of any mascot, and was the first to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. At Auburn, the Aubie Program is uniquely housed within SGA, unlike most college mascots housed within athletics’ departments. Directors of The Aubie Program are a part of SGA Cabinet and consist of 3 co-directors (Director of Scheduling, Director of Fundraising, and Director of Publicity) who assist in the day-to-day logistics of Aubie. Their main goal is to aid the Friends of Aubie in bringing Auburn’s beloved tiger mascot to life.

PROGRAMS (continued) FAMILY FRIDAYS

Family Fridays is a unique and inclusive program within the Student Government Association that occurs on the first Friday of every month from 11 AM-1 PM. Family Fridays is a campus-wide effort to unify the Auburn Family and build community at Auburn.

FRESHMAN FORUM

Members will gain applicable, hands-on experience through working with a mentor that is currently serving in SGA. The group also seeks to build a community that challenges and encourages one another to become better leaders during their first year of college.

BETTER RELATIONS DAY

Student representatives of Auburn and Alabama began arranging joint meetings to plan for friendly cooperation between the two student bodies. Expanding this unique tradition to the University of Georgia, Better Relations Day has grown to encompass the exchange of not only leadership ideas and policies, but also to increase the quality of our peer institutions. It is hosted at Auburn every other year and will take place at the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia in Fall 2018.

MISS AUBURN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The winner of the Miss AU Pageant receives the title of Miss Auburn University as well as the opportunity to represent Auburn and compete at the Miss Alabama Pageant. In addition, a scholarship for full year of in-state tuition is awarded to Miss AU.
