History

• Starting in the 2nd century BC, Vietnam had been dominated by different Chinese feudal dynasties for over a thousand years.

• Victory in 938 AD created a new era in Vietnam’s history.

• Became an independent feudal state, national construction, and defense.

• Vietnam’s unique writing system, Nom scripts, was reformed from Chinese Han scripts and introduced during this time.

Fun Fact: The name of Vietnam was once spelled as two words (Viet Nam, coming from the Vietnamese for "southern Viet people"), but is now generally spelled as a single word.
