Iseshima is home to Ise, an area with Ise Jingu Shrine, Kashikojima, which is a base of sightseeing around Oku-Shima, Toba, which is a birthplace of pearl culture, and other places of interest. We will introduce you to Iseshima and its various attractive features, including beautiful views of Ise Bay and delicious local seafood.
伊勢志摩地區自然景觀豐富，包括坐擁伊勢神宮的伊勢、奧志摩觀光據點的賢島、 珍珠誕生地的鳥羽等等。 「伊勢灣」 的美景及新鮮海鮮，伊勢志摩的魅力不容錯過。
Ise Jingu Shrine 伊勢神宮
Ise Jingu Shrine, the most sacred Shinto shrine in Japan, is a must-visit holy place when you visit Iseshima. Ise Jingu is the official name but some Japanese affectionately call it Oise-san. The shrine consists of 125 jinja (Shinto shrines), including Naiku (Inner Shrine), which enshrines Amaterasu Omikami (the Sun Goddess), and Geku (Outer Shrine), which enshrines Toyouke no Omikami, the goddess of offering sacred food to Amaterasu Omikami. Ise Jingu has stood in stately magnificence in its Japanese natural setting for more than 2,000 years. *The areas that enshrine gods are holy spaces. Keep in mind that taking photos is prohibited in some areas.
伊勢神宮是在日本最神聖的神社，若來到伊勢志摩， 請務必到訪此處日本聖地。雖然 「神宮」 是正式名稱， 但也被日本人親切地稱為「伊勢大人」 。包含了祭祀 天照大神的「內宮」 ，與祭祀照料天照大神三餐的豐 受大神的「外宮」 ，由 125 座神社建立而成，2000 多 年前就開始守護著日本的大自然。＊祭祀神明的空 間非常神聖，部分地方禁止拍照，敬請注意。

Places for Enjoying Magnificent Views of Iseshima 伊勢志摩的絕美景色
Futamigaura Beach and Meotoiwa Rocks
Long ago, Futamigaura was a place where people purified themselves before visiting Ise Jingu. Meotoiwa (a pair of large rocks – “husband and wife” – sticking out from the ocean), which can be seen from Futami Okitama-jinja Shrine, is a popular place as a symbol of marriage ties. Between May and July, you can see the rising sun between the rocks.

Famous as a ria coast with beautiful views, Ago Bay can be seen from several viewpoints and bridges in the Iseshima Area. From Kirigaki Viewpoint, you can enjoy a gorgeous view of Ago Bay shining in red against the sunset. 英虞灣作為沉降海岸而著名，能夠從伊勢志摩地區的多 處觀景台及橋上，眺望到美麗景觀。從桐垣觀景台則能 欣賞到逐漸染上夕陽、英虞灣令人讚嘆的景色。
Apply a thick layer of salt to tightly wrap a whole sea bream, cook it, and enjoy! The umami of the fish is condensed in the salt cover, creating an excellent dish. It comes with rice and soup. Sites to Visit in Toba 鳥羽的推薦景點
The whole area of Toba is located in Iseshima National Park. This area is filled with attractive sites to visit, including the beautiful ocean where the first pearl culture in the world was carried out and numerous islands where the unique lifestyle has been preserved.

Seeing Iseshima from a Cruise Ship on the Ocean!
搭乘旅遊客船， 從海上眺望伊勢志摩！
It is highly recommended to see Iseshima from an excursion boat. Offering a tour in dark blue Ago Bay watching pearl rafts and the ria coast, Kashikojima Espana Cruise starts from the boarding site that is located near the Kashikojima Station, the terminal station of The Kintetsu Shima Line. If you would like a gorgeous cruise, you can take the sightseeing boat, Esperanza. “Toba Bay Cruise and Dolphin Island” course offers a set consisting of a sightseeing tour going around beautiful Toba Bay, seeing Toba’s picturesque Mitsushima islands, and a visit to Dolphin Island, where you can enjoy shows by dolphins and sea lions. You can join the tour from Toba Aquarium or Toba Marine Terminal.

Iseshima has many inhabited islands. On Toushi Island, which is 12 minutes away from Toba Port, you can enjoy strolling along back alleys, playing at the shore, and eating seafood at an ama hut. Located 10 minutes away from Ago Bay by a regular liner, Masaki Island has nice views of village streets and pearl rafts. 伊勢志摩存在著許多人們居住的離島。在從鳥羽港出發 12 分鐘就能抵達的答志島上，可以小巷散步及海岸遊樂、在 海女小屋用餐等。從英虞灣定期船搭乘處，搭乘定期客船 10 分鐘就能抵達的間崎島上，群聚的城鎮街道及珍珠筏的 美麗風景值得一看。

You visited Ise Jingu Shrine and the Mikimoto Pearl Island and you’ve feasted on the area’s famous seafood and Matsusaka beef. So now it’s time to go out and start looking for some souvenirs and for something to munch on at your hotel or on your way home. Easily accessible by bus from the Iseshi Station and by car, Don Quijote’s Ise Store is open until 2 a.m. and is a favorite among locals who use it for everyday items and particularly for medical supplies and cosmetics. If some need arises during your trip or you just want to have a nighttime bite to eat in your room, Don Quijote’s wide selection will certainly satisfy you. And if you realize you’ve overdone it with the souvenirs, in the store there is an ATM accepting international cards, which will allow you to continue your shopping free of care. The taxfree counter is conveniently located next to the cash register.

Rows of Yoshino cherries are planted along the embankment of the Shizukuishi River, which flows to the south of Shizukuishi Station. This recipe calls for the skin of the red sea bream sashimi to be slightly seared using a kitchen blowtorch. This is recommended when preparing red sea bream sashimi to enhance the umami and give a nice roasted flavor to the fish.
Red Sea Bream Carpaccio
真鯛のカルパッチョ The bland taste of red sea bream is enhanced with the refreshing flavor of citrus and creates a gorgeous looking dish. Add some pink pepper to taste to enhance the flavor with its bitterness as well as adding more color. This is highly recommended!
Red sea bream has a sophisticated taste that makes it one of the essential ingredients in Japanese cooking. It is recommended to choose a fish in size from 1.2 to 1.5 kg as this size has a thinner skin and is easier to cook. Virtually every part of the fish can be prepared and eaten. As usual when cooking fish, thoroughly clean the fish before cooking. If you don’t do a very thorough job at this stage, even a few scales and bloody parts left on the fish will destroy the sophisticated taste of the fish and cause an unpleasant taste and texture. To avoid that, wash the fish under running water. Although the recipes aren’t included here, the head can be cooked in a soup or grilled and the milt (shirako) can be eaten in a ponzu sauce. You can even deep-fry the scales as a taste treat with sake!
Tai-meshi Rice 鯛めし Among various kinds of dishes of rice cooked with other ingredients (takikomi-gohan), tai-meshi is one of the most popular because of its delicate taste. Fish fillets are easier to use to make delicious tai-meshi. An important point when making tai-meshi is to avoid making it too salty. Use only a few drops of soy sauce and a pinch of salt.

Ushio-jiru is a dashi-based soup made using the leftover parts of fish (called ara) after filleting a fish. Sea bream ara creates a nice dashi soup with a refined taste.

Ever y dish was so delicious; the tai-meshi was my favorite so I couldn’t help having a second serving! Activities The outskirt of Sapporo has nature in abundance and provides a variety of activities in the mountains as well as in the rivers, such as horse trekking in the forest and plain, and fruits picking in orchards. You can experience a strong torrent from April to June when the water level increases due to melting snow and a mellow rubber rafting in the clean water in summer.

Jozankei Onsen is a popular hot spring spot that opened in 1866. One hour by car from the downtown Sapporo, it is located alongside the river and surrounded by the mountains. The area is famous for the autumn leaves watching, especially when the whole mountains are covered with red and yellow leaves in mid-October. The cliff and beautiful valley of the Toyohira River have a tremendous impact. Hokkaido is the best place for winter sports because of its cold temperature and high volume of snow. You can enjoy the fine powder snow there. In 1972, Sapporo served as the first Japanese city to host the Olympic winter games. Many ski areas are located 20 to 60 minutes by car from the downtown Sapporo. They are all powdersnowed slopes. It is thus accessible that you can casually make a day trip for skiing. Some ski resorts have rental skis, sleds and snow shoes so that you can play in the snow.

Mt. Moiwa is the mountain at 531 meters, situated on the south side of the downtown Sapporo. The night view is especially wonderful and recognized as one of the “Japan’s new top 3 cities for night views” along with Nagasaki and Kobe in October 2015.

In port town Hakodate, fresh, delicious seafood is always available. At Hakodate Morning Market, delicious sushi and kaisendon (bowl of rice topped with seafood) are available. At Ekini Market, you can fish squid yourself and the shop staff will prepare sashimi for you. The hamburger at Lucky Pierrot is a popular “soul food” among local people, and can be eaten only in Hakodate. “Shio Ramen” with lightly salted flavored soup is also known as a specialty of Hakodate, home to many ramen restaurants.

Known as one of the world’s four most famous ice and snow festivals, Sapporo Snow Festival is a great fixture of Hokkaido in winter. Famous Kotohira-gu Shrine in Kotohira, Kagawa Prefecture, is usually called “Konpira-san” and is the head shrine of “Konpirasan” shrines across the country. Worshipped as the guardian deity of the sea, it attracts many people including fishermen and mariners, and a lot of wooden plaques (ema) offering prayers for safe sea travel are dedicated at Ema-den Hall. The shrine is well known for its very long flight of stone steps: 1,368 steps up to Oku-sha building. If you go up 785 steps to Hon-gu Main Hall, it takes about 45 minutes, and you can enjoy a variety of sights worth seeing on the way. After “exercising” at Konpira-san, enjoy soaking in a bath at nearby Konpira Onsen-kyo! This is a relatively new hot spring village found in 1997, when three hotels there drilled and discovered the source of the hot springs. The water has been also supplied to other accommodations around the area, and it is now one of the major hot spring towns in Shikoku. The water quality is different depending on the accommodation, but generally it is said to be effective for nerve pain, muscle pain, joint pain, and stiff shoulders due to age. Old Konpira Oshibai (Important Cultural Property) is the oldest existing theatrical playhouse in Japan, built in 1835. It is also called “Kanamaruza” and kabuki is performed there every spring. Kagawa Prefecture is famous for udon noodles. At Nakano Udon School at the foot of Kotohira-gu Shrine, you can experience making the noodles yourself (required time: about 50 minutes).

Edo Culture Continuing Today 日本橋 傳承至今的江戶文化 Nihonbashi was the starting point for the five major arteries connecting Edo (now Tokyo) to the rest of the country during the Edo period (1603-1867). This helped it become a melting pot of people from all over Japan and the breeding ground for the culture of the rising townspeople class. Plenty of shops dating from that period can still be found all over the area. Even today Nihonbashi remains home to many of Japan’s top banks, department stores and shopping complexes. A walk around it is a walk through a living history of over four centuries.

Nihonbashi has a food culture of its own, especially items of Edo’s popular cuisine that would later become world-famous – dishes like unagi (eel), sushi, tempura and soba buckwheat noodles. Sushi was something that could be prepared and eaten easily with one hand and soba was a fast food of sorts to be eaten quickly during a break from work. Walking around the area you can come across venerable restaurants like Ooedo (eel), Yoshino (sushi), Tenmo (tempura), and Muromachi Sunaba (soba) that were founded over 100 years ago and are still going strong. 日本橋的飲食文化也十分發達，尤其是作為大眾料理的鰻魚、壽司、天婦羅和蕎麥麵，更是世界

Nihonbashi was the area of Kabuki so it also became the area of the printers of Ukiyo-e woodblock prints featuring images of Kabuki’s stars and scenes from the everyday life of Edoites. Ibasen selling ukiyo-e paper fans and folding fans has a more than 400-year history. Ozu Washi and Haibara, venerable shops specializing in handmade Japanese paper, can be found in the neighborhood. Ningyocho is an old home of Kabuki and Bunraku (puppet theater) and with a distinct shitamachi (old downtown) atmosphere still lingering. The area is home to seven eight dedicated to the Seven Gods of Good Fortune. Buy a ningyoyaki cake to munch on and try a “Shichi Fukujin Meguri,” a short pilgrimage to the eight shrines. In the Edo period, people used to come up with all kinds of schemes in their effort to find some relief from the heat. One such idea was goldfish appreciation and its modern-day incarnation is the “Art Aquarium” exhibition held every year in Nihonbashi and other areas in Japan. Enjoy seeing a variety of goldfish! Every year in October and with the Takarada Ebisu-jinja shrine at its center, the Bettara-ichi Fair is held. The story goes that it started as an offering from the area’s merchants to Ebisu, one of the Gods of Good Fortune, praying for their business to flourish and it
used to be a market of home shrines and other auspicious items. The main item sold now though is “Bettara,” a variation of daikon radish pickle. During the festival, many stands selling this special kind of pickle are set up around the shrine.

Hatenohama Beach 終端之濱
The whole of Kume Island has been designated a natural park by Okinawa Prefecture. If you are going to visit, Hatenohama Beach, on the eastern shore of the island, is one of the recommended spots. There are several tours available including offerings such as snorkeling or boxed lunches, so look around and find the one that best suits you. And of course there’s more. From the 200-meter-high Hiyajobanta cliff (observation deck), on a clear day you can see Hatenohama Beach, Aguni and Kerama islands, and enjoy a swim in the deep waters of the pure white sand Eef Beach. If you are hungry, rumor has it that the “Island Miso Moyashi Soba” (made with local miso and bean sprouts) at the “Yangwa” is the best in Okinawa and as for souvenirs, tiger prawns and sea-grape algae, which are cultivated in the ocean deep layer water, are favorites among both locals and visitors. End your visit with a bicycle ride around the sugarcane fields enjoying the leisurely atmosphere of the island.

Kita-Daito and Minami-Daito islands are Okinawa’s two easternmost islands. The attraction here is food right from the surrounding seas! At Japan’s westernmost tip, Yonaguni Island is home to a unique phenomenon. At 100 meters offshore from Arakawahana Cape lies “Yonaguni Monument,” a gigantic formation 250 meters east-to-west by 150 meters north-to-south. Researchers are still arguing whether it is natural phenomenon or a relic of some ancient civilization. In the meantime you can enjoy it either by diving or by half-submersible boat. As its name suggests, Yonaguni Uma is a breed of horse native to the island. Transportation / 交通
Rail 鐵路 Japan is covered in a rail network that reaches to almost ever y corner of the archipelago. Most are owned and run by the Japan Railway (JR) system and the world famous “Shinkansen” bullet train is of course one of the fastest and most enjoyable forms of land transpor t anywhere – the distance between Tokyo and Osaka being covered in just 2 hours 30 minutes on the fastest line.
Taxi 計程車 Japanese taxis can be found at the exit to ever y train station in the countr y or alternatively hailed on the streets. The red sign visible through the windshield of the car: “空車” (kusha) means it is vacant and available for hire but when the sign reads “賃走” (chinso), it is unavailable. The back door on the left side will open and close automatically so be careful not to stand too close! (All the other doors are operated manually) Rates var y depending on the taxi company. The rate system is shown inside the taxi and receipts can be issued. In urban areas, you can usually pay by credit card for a taxi. If credit cards are accepted, a taxi has a sticker showing this on the window.

Long-distance buses in Japan are run by numerous companies including JR. Buses are generally more economic than traveling by plane or train but do take longer and can be affected by traffic jams at busy times of the day or night. Local buses run all over Japan as well as in the major cities and sometimes English instructions or stop announcements are used but this is not the case everywhere. We would recommend you ask drivers to remind you of where you must disembark prior to setting off.

In big cities, such as Tokyo and Osaka, the under and over ground train system is well organized and highly efficient accessing any and all parts of the cities. Transportation Cards / Useful Tickets 交通卡 / 划算的票券 If planning to stay in Japan for a longer period IC cards are recommended. (500 yen deposit returned when returning the card) Simply touch the card on a rectangular pad beside the ticket gate and the fare used is automatically deducted from the value of the card. In Tokyo the cards are known as Suica or PASMO and are accepted on JR lines, subways and most other railways and buses. The card can also be used as electronic money for shopping at registered shops and some vending machines.
Tokyo One-Day Free Ticket (Tokyo Furii Kippu)
（東京フリーきっぷ）is available for use on JR
lines (inside Tokyo’s 23 cities), subways, and the Toei Bus service for one whole day – ending at midnight – at a charge of 1,590 yen.
Tokyo Subway Ticket is available for use on Tokyo Metro and Toei Metro subway lines. Prices for adults are 800 yen (24 hours), 1,200 yen (48 hours), and 1,500 yen (72 hours). JR TOKYO Wide Pass is valid for three days and good for unlimited rides using reser ved seats on ordinary cars on Shinkansen and express trains in the Kanto area. The service is now extended to Echigo-Yuzawa Station and GALA Yuzawa Station. Kansai Area Pass is valid for unlimited travel using ordinary non-reserved seats of JR-WEST local and rapid trains in the defined “Free Area.” Prices for adults are 2,300 yen (1-day), 4,500 yen (2-days), 5,500 yen (3-days), and 6,500 yen (4-days) when purchasing in Japan. When purchasing in other countries, prices are 2,200 yen (1-day), 4,300 yen (2-days), 5,300 yen (3-days), and 6,300 yen (4-days).
Kansai Thru Pass（スルッと関西）offers a simi-
lar ser vice to the Tokyo Furii Kippu in Kansai and enables subway, railway (bar JR lines), and bus use throughout the Kansai area. Prices for adults are 4,000 yen (2 days) and 5,200 yen (3 days). (*Sales to end on Mar. 31, 2017, Use to end on Jan. 31, 2018)
KINTETSU RAIL PASS offers unlimited rides on all Kintetsu Railway lines for five days. Fares to Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Ise-Shima, and Nagoya are for a bargain. Price: 3,600 yen for adults when purchased outside Japan / 3,800 yen for adults purchased in Japan. Money / 貨幣 You can cash traveler’s checks at many banks. Traveler’s checks can also be used at hotels, r yokan Japanese style hotels, and shops in big cities. Money Exchange 兌換 Exchanging non-Japanese currency for yen can be carried out at international airpor ts, and most major banks. At the airpor ts exchanging Japanese yen into foreign currency is also possible. At “World Currency Shop,” even after banks close their doors it is possible to exchange later in the day. 在機場或是都市銀行可兌換日幣，在機場也可將日圓 再兌換回外幣，在「World Currency Shop」即使超過 銀行的營業時間也辦理兌換業務。

Aoi Matsuri Festival The Aoi Matsuri Festival, or Hollyhock Festival, is an annual festival of Shimogamo Jinja and Kamigamo Jinja Shrines and one of the three major festivals in Kyoto along with Gion Matsuri Festival in July and Jidai Matsuri Festival in October. An elegant procession, consisting of 500 people in traditional costume, 36 horses, 4 oxen and 2 oxcarts and recalling the heyday of the Heian dynasty (about 1,000 years ago), begins at Kyoto Gosho (Kyoto Imperial Palace) at 10:30 a.m. and, after parading through the city, ends Kamigamo Shrine 上賀茂神社↑ Ryoan-ji Temple
