The Bible verse above is something that came to me on a sweltering August day when I sat down to pen this publisher’s note. All of the interviews, photos, and articles are completed, and it’s time to send the next gorgeous edition to print. This is also the first time in weeks that I’ve had a moment to clear my mind, meditate, and compose my thoughts in a way I hope translates well to the page. Something I hope can share inspiration, positivity, optimism, excite ment, and so much more.
Roanoke Real
A TIME FOR EVERY ACTIVITY UNDER HEAVEN. A TIME TO BE BORN AND A TIME TO DIE. A TIME TO PLANT AND A TIME TO HARVEST.
This Bible verse gave me enough pause to remember that there’s a time for nights like that. There’s a time for nights when all is well and good. There’s a time for days when I can’t see the forest for the trees, just like there are days when everything runs as smoothly as I planned. There are times when frost or drought takes our harvest before its time and times that we will have a bumper crop. There will be times that our photo shoots have great weather and perfect light, and others when it will start to rain the exact moment we step onto the Salem Red Sox Field to start our day. All of the easy days, all of the difficult days, and so much more.
Labor Day and the familial and friendly gatherings that usually occur. Patriot Day and the remem brance of what happened in our country in 2001. World Suicide Prevention Day is Sept. 10 and when I choose to celebrate my birthday. All of this and so much more.
A TIME TO KILL AND A TIME TO HEAL.
Cheers! KatieOwnerLewis|Publisher Roanoke Real Producers RealProducersMag.com
September will usher in many things. The harvest moon, when simple farmers who feed and clothe you daily will ramp up their workload more than ever. The final days of summer and the first days of fall, and the cooler days it will hopefully bring.

publisher’s note Photo by Roanoke Real Estate Photos
As we close out the third quarter of the year, I hope you’ll remember those words. Maybe the last season was profitable and positive for you. Don’t be dis mayed when you’re sent back to the drawing board. Maybe you’ve had some struggles and are feeling hopeless. Turn your eyes to the future and continue to seek until you find the harvest to come. Maybe you’ve faced trauma or loss. Prepare yourself for the healing that must follow. Truly, there is a time for all things under heaven. Open yourself up to it, remain positive, strong, and ready for what’s next.
Let’s be honest, the last time I sat down to write a publisher’s note, life was pretty grim at that moment. I just read those words today and recalled the struggles the Lewis household faced that very night. I can say with complete assurance I have no interest whatsoever in reliving anything that happened that day. Not the loose horses. Not the husband who went after them without a phone. Not the sick dog. Not the panic I had when I couldn’t find my husband after dark. Not the neigh through the dark I heard from a field our horses should not have been in. Not the 11:45 p.m. cry I had at my computer when I realized I wasn’t possibly able to complete everything by the midnight deadline—all of this and so much more.

Russell’s clients — about 1,245 in total — order in bulk to have a supply of gifts on hand for the year. “We break it up over that year, which is really easy on the piggy bank, and then they have a solid system in place so they can concentrate on their business.” Russell’s clients rarely stop ordering from him because they start get ting repeat and referral business, and the revenue keeps coming in. Popular Cutco gifts include Santoku knives, shears, the cheese knife, and spatula spreader, all of them guaranteed forever. “They are like Snap-On tools for the kitchen,” Russell said of the superior products that have been fea tured on Modern Marvels, a television series that focuses on how technologies affect and are used in modern society; the History Channel for being the world’s sharpest knives; and Discovery Channel for the way the Super Shears are made. Russell, who resides in Newport News with his 16-year-old daughter and enjoys hiking, golfing, fixing cars, trying new restaurants, and traveling, is grateful that he gets to pro vide a one-of-a-kind product with an excellent guarantee and top-notch customer service, and he welcomes all real estate professionals to contact him at (757) 714-7207 to get started thinking outside the gift basket!
WHAT REALTORS® SHOULD UNDERSTAND IS THAT EVERYONE HAS A KITCHEN, AND EVERYONE EATS FOOD, AND THEY ARE GOING TO USE THIS FOREVER.STUFF
Often, REALTORS® buy gifts for clients that do not serve the REALTORS® well. Cutco Closing Gifts Founder Tony Carlston says that about 90% of closing gifts are consumed within the first 30 days. Others get tucked away in a closet or on a shelf. Cutco Closing Gifts — Cutco products turned into long-term branding tools — have staying power. The high-quality kitchen cutlery and accessories branded with the REALTOR’S® name, phone number, and logo are a constant reminder of excel lent service. “What REALTORS® should understand is that every one has a kitchen, and everyone eats food, and they are going to use this stuff forever,” Russell said. The items also spark conversa tion among family and friends, leading to referrals, and they are 100% tax-deductible because they are engraved with the REALTORS’® information. Other perks of gifting Cutco products include a service program that sends a representative to the client’s home to sharpen the gift and other Cutco products at no charge. The items are easy to stock, which means no last-minute running around town for a gift.

A friend of hers who was a Broker saw her talents in marketing and the law and recom mended she look into real estate. Since then, life as a REALTOR® has gone from a job to a passion, and with it, success has followed her.
Vermont-born and Texas-raised, Lenora Farrington is likely someone who’s shaped how you practice certain segments of your real estate business. Her story might be the reason you’ve taken self-defense courses or brushed up on firearm safety. Her history may be why your mentor coached you to enter rooms after clients, to lock the home behind you when you’re doing a virtual showing, or to host open houses in pairs. The tragedy of June 20, 2020, in Huddleston, VA, shook the entire real estate community when a lone attacker returned to an open house she was hosting. The rest of the details of that day are for the news to cover, but Lenora’s story is one that serves to inspire and educate us all.

FARRINGTON KELLER WILLIAMS
A Sweet Briar Vixen, Lenora came to Virginia for the first time to pursue her degree with a major in English communications with a theater and religion minor. After time as a paralegal, she decided she needed a change.

18 • September 2022 @realproducers
Being a successful REALTOR® has been a huge part of her path since moving to Virginia. “I am pas sionate about helping my clients navigate a difficult market. Perhaps I’m most passionate about helping women invest in real estate and achieve their goals,” Lenora shared. And her greatest rewards for that passion? Getting to the closing table with her clients and seeing their homeownership goals met. And that black belt isn’t the only award she’s ever achieved.
Keller Williams has honored her with three sep arate awards: strength and bravery, courage, and persistence. All of her successes have been hardearned and well-deserved.
REALPRODUCERS
A Virginia REALTOR® for over three years, Lenora’s career in real estate began in Massachusetts before moving to the commonwealth to start anew. But she brought a certain set of skills with her. Skills that she acquired over a very long career in UechiRyū. Skills that are a nightmare for people like her attacker. Skills that took her to the hospital for three days in June rather than to the morgue. “Practicing martial arts for 20 years is THE reason I survived,” says Lenora. “Uechi-Ryū is an Okinawan-based style of martial arts, and much of what Taekwondo is based upon.” Lenora is now a second-degree black belt in Uechi-Ryū, known as Nidan.
June 20, 2020, is the only day Lenora could be labeled a victim. She’s now turning her experience into skills to share with the next generation at her alma mater. In August she began teaching a physi cal education course at Sweet Briar College. She’s teaching many styles of martial arts during the course and the final exam? That will be the green belt test. “The way I’ve created the course is that if someone begins their freshman year with me and chooses to continue to pursue martial arts, they will have the ability to graduate with their fouryear degree AND a black belt.”
Lenora is a supporter of Sweet Briar College as an alumnus, as well as the Episcopal Church. As a traumatic brain injury survivor, she’s vocal about how having a TBI and the healing process is a big deal and needs to be treated as such. “It’s not something you just get over, heal from, and have no lasting effects,” she reminds us. But she continues to heal and overcome while living her definition of success, doing a little better today than yesterday.

Roanoke Real Producers • 19realproducersmag.com THE WAY I'VE CREATED THE COURSE IS THAT IF SOMEONE BEGINS THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR WITH ME AND CHOOSES TO CONTINUE TO PURSUE MARTIAL ARTS, THEY WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO GRADUATE WITH THEIR FOUR-YEAR DEGREE AND A BLACK BELT. REALPRODUCERS

Daniel and Veronica, who cele brated their 16th wedding anni versary the day of their photo shoot for this publication, met at Master’s Commission in Southern California, where they were attending school. Their love story has grown to include their three children: son Carter, who’s 14, daughter Kennedy, who’s 11, and son Dowson, who’s 9. Together as a family, they LOVE pickleball, Virginia Explore Park, and all things sports and outdoor-related, especially if it involves being in the water. They are both Top Producers in the Roanoke Valley and Veronica is a Leadership Roanoke Valley graduate. But this dynamic couple is now both REALTORS®, not just Veronica. “I’ve been an agent for a year now. My wife was a huge driver and inspiration for me to become a licensed REALTOR®,” remembers Daniel. “I studied while I was still working and then decided to jump in with all fours when I got my license. Veronica really drove me to focus on my limitless potential, just as she already was.”
22 • September 2022 @realproducers
Now, Daniel and Veronica share their successes and struggles with their team and clients. “If we can share our learning, our struggles, and our success with others, so they don’t have to go through all of the hard times, that’s the ultimate satisfaction for us,” they both agreed. “We LOVE to see people win, whether they are clients or teammates.” Their passion for others is evident in every segment of their business and life. Together they support the ALS Foundation, something they began doing long before quickly losing Veronica’s grandmother to ALS. “When the ice bucket chal lenge was a big deal, we did it, not yet knowing what was to come in our family,” said Veronica. They also give back to youth sports financially and in a coaching capacity, as well as anonymously supporting foster families in need in the Roanoke Valley. “We love help ing people understand how limitless they truly are and how they can be successful by being their authentic selves. It’s important that we can share our story to give others hope for their future.”
