This booklet has been created to give you an introduction to who we are, what’s important to us as a business, and what we have to offer you.

It’s a distillation of the most important things that define us as a company, so please take a few minutes to read through this booklet and reflect on how you can uphold these ideas and principles in your role.

Our past

atomos is the culmination of several acquisitions made by Sanlam — the largest non-banking services group in Africa — over the past 30 years. The group opened its first international office in London in 1996 and proceeded to invest in high-quality financial planning and investment businesses across the country. Since then, we have continued to grow and cement a strong track record in putting clients first. It was this extensive experience and specialist knowledge that brought investment from Oaktree Capital Management in 2022, beginning the next chapter in our journey.

Our future

Most financial companies are only too happy to pigeonhole themselves. Wealth managers, or financial planners, or tax consultants. With these companies, it’s A or B. They’re one thing, or another. But we don’t box ourselves in like that. Because we believe that people’s financial worlds work best for them when all the different parts work together. So, that’s exactly what we do. We’re atomos, an advice-led wealth management company. We take a hybrid approach to both what we offer — joined up wealth management, financial planning, and financial wellbeing services; and how we offer it — through a blend of relationship-led and digital services.

“What’s in a name?”

When it comes to atomos, quite a lot, actually.

Why ‘atomos’?

Our name combines both the future and the past.

It’s an ancient Greek word that means uncuttable and indivisible. It sounds modern and forward-looking, with connotations of science, innovation and discovery. It’s where the word ‘atom’ comes from.

Our name is ultimately an embodiment of the power of ‘and’ — a union of history, heritage, progress, and forward thinking.

And because we write it in full lowercase, it feels accessible, approachable and down-to-earth. This gives our name real standout in the market.

And the ampersand?

We use the ampersand symbol to represent ‘the power of and’. It’s not our name, and it’s not our logo. It’s simply a typographic and design element that we use in headlines and visual communications to underline the central idea behind our brand: creating unity.

Making our mark in the market

We have a clear vision of what success looks like for our brand. We want to revolutionise how our entire industry serves clients — making finance more accessible, more personal, and more rewarding for all.

But, like every big ambition, it takes practical planning to make it a reality. That’s why we take small steps towards achieving it every day. By regularly checking in with our customers and keeping an eye on how happy they are through NPS satisfaction scores, we ensure we’re always improving our service and building the reputation we want, one customer at a time.
